Re: Dis-courteous
I keep my car keys in the drawer right next to the back door. I used to keep them in the bedroom until a friend was woken in the middle of the night by an intruder looking for car keys in his bedside table.
A burglar will look around the house for valuables in their normal locations (jewellery in bedrooms etc), but usually while you're out. A car thief will usually come while you're at home and will search the house for the keys. The sooner they find them and leave, the better, from my point of view.
Fortunately I don't have proximity keys, but if I did I would keep them in a metal tin to prevent remote cloning. However, I'd still put them in the drawer next to the back door and clearly mark the tin with the words "car keys". Read more
Surely the technology is capable of detecting that a plate has been keyed in which is not in the car park. A warning message to check the entry would solve the problem. Read more

Blue badge and disabled parking spaces abuse really "grinds my gears" I have a disabled space painted outside my house which can be used by any badge holder (it's not just mine) and I've lost count of the amount of times I've come home to find the space occupied by a non-qualifying user. It's the selfishness of some people; usually along the lines of I'll only be a minute, I'm just popping into the shop etc.Because of lack of parking in my street, I end parking 2 or 3 roads away and wheel-chairing my way home from there.
Interestingly enough, when I enquired about a badge from my local authority, I was told and I quote "you basically have to be blind or dying before we issue blue badges in this area"
I have a ford focus 2010 (mk2 facelift / mk2.5).. my air conditioning seems to be 'clicking' on and off whilst driving which causes a change in acceleration. The AC light remains illuminated and whilst idling, I can hear the condenser is on but can hear a click under acceleration which goes when I turn the AC off.

Very likely to be a low gas charge . The ac pump clutch will cycle in/out more often if there is inadequate gas in the system .
Hi there,
I have so much driving anxiety now that i am back at it after a years break.
This morning I safely went through a green light at a set of lights with a traffic light camera. However, at the lights along the road from this camera,I had restricted viewing due to buses. Emphasis on the fact that the lights i accidentally went through the red at were at the next set along the road from the camera. So what I done may not have been visible to the camera as it was a little further away.
Sounds so stupid and i'll probably get mocked but does anyone think ill get caught for this? Read more
As worst, you'll get a fine and a few points.
Don't let it impact your confidence.
Hi all
I'm looking in to getting a 2nd hand car , still trying to decide diesel petrol.i prefer the diesel more to do with torque than anything else, living in Norfolk with slow drivers I'd prefer the extra torque for the safer over take but still fear the horror stories that exist . The one thing I'd like to ask is I have just read an article on the rac website about dpf and it mentions how long they should last and cost to fix and the way I see it a dpf 100k miles, replace at a cost of 1k on some cars 100k mile means a new cam belt and around that mileage ish a new clutch all on the ish ,but if all this comes in or around the ish you could end up with a lot of expensive repairs , so to my mind a diesel with around 100k on average 10 years old could end up costing alot to keep running beyond the 100k mark. I feel that I must be getting this wrong. Any advice would be great. Read more
Not all diesels need a cam belt, my 2012 SLK has the chain. I've had diesels for while now, current v70 is 12 years old...no dpf trouble, SLK ditto. There must be something in the dpf problems but I've ...touch wood...not had any. Both cars do a mixture of local and motorway stuff, V70 on 135k and SLK on 57k and both autos so no clutch needed. V70 has been a great car, bought about 5 years ago for £8k so it owes me very little. Apart from tyres, brakes and the usual stuff it's behaved itself.
Seen a recommendation to add a small amount of two stroke oil to the fuel to quieten the engine.
Seems to work but are there any issues with this?

I would not use 2 stroke oil.. catalyst will eventually be damaged...

Well, as predicted by the dealer, the cream leather upholstery in our CR-V is taking on a blue hue thanks to jeans being our habitual wear. A small price to pay, because the cream really lifts the interior and goes well with the metallic red paintwork. SWMBO wanted black leather for practical reasons, but I won the debate with the proviso that the regular cleaning falls to me.
So, what does the team suggest? Some years ago i was using Gliptone products to clean and condition the leather, as it came highly recommended at the time. I see that the cleaner and conditioner are still available in spray form. Are these still the products of choice, or is there something else I should be using? Thoughts welcome please. Read more
I gave up jeans years ago because of poor wear, discomfort, slow drying if caught in rain and issues with blue dye spreading.

New cars cost way too much. That's it. Read more
Many factors are causing this. People are looking to see what may or may not happen with penalising diesel and possibly petrol cars in the near future. Some cities and towns are talking about bans, but until things pan out drivers are holding off from any changes. That, the cost of new vehicles, especially EV's, will have an effect. Some may want to switch to EV's but find the lack of charging infrastructure, or limited range for them unsuitable. I will be driving my four year old diesel 4x4 for at least another 6-8 years, until an affordable! 4x4 EV, with decent space, towing ability and good range is on the market. The market is in a state of flux and i think it will stay like this for some time.
