In light of the changing regulatory environment in controlling air quality let's play the axing lottery and guess which ICE models will be pulled out of the UK market this year.
Saw this revelation on Autoexpress and other media outlets and I was also wondering how it will affect the makers position for manufacturing here this year, I have two dear family members employed in the Toyota supply chain so hopefully it will come to little effect.... Read more

Yet another SUV why why why I much prefer a decent sized hatchback
My 2015 plate Discovery sport flashed up engine light issues on the dash so was booked into main dealer for them to check it out (18 months of warranty remaining). They phone me up and inform me my 24k motor I'd only had for 6 months NEEDS A NEW GEARBOX (sorry for shouting). They were extremely blasé about the whole thing where I on the other hand was completely gutted. Ok so it will be fixed under warranty I asked if the gearbox will be replace with a new one or a reconditioned one, they claimed it will be a new one but I'm just wonder if there's anything I need to do like go and see the new gearbox or should I just go with the flow and leave them to it without causing a fuss? Any advise greatly received.
Thanks for reading!

Hi
So whilst checking the oil levels on my car some of oil dripped of the dipstick towards the back of the engine (not much) I have cleaned as much of as I could reach. Will the drips which I cannot reach cause any issues? I assume it will just burn off in time.... Read more
This must be another joke? It's not always possible to refill an engine with oil without a drop or two escaping. Let us know if any harm comes of it - I don't expect to hear from you.
Hey!
My wife has recently found a new job where she's doing a lot more mileage than previously, and she's always wanted an automatic (where she comes from they're the norm although she passed in UK on a manual).... Read more
Thank you so much for coming back and telling us. Glad we could help, and the Civic sounds like a very good buy.

Hi all,
Just looking for some advice from anyone who's been in this situation or is otherwise in the know!... Read more
It would also be perfectly good grounds for a request for Keeper details from DVLA.
Ok, so this could be my fault. I need to rule out that it isn't.
Honda Civic, 2018, only had it for three weeks. Parked in a car park on a very slight gradient, got out, thought it was a little too far forward so hopped in and moved car back a few cm. The car was probably only active for a couple of seconds. I am as certain as I can be that I put the parking brake on - I've had electronic parking brakes on previous cars and you do it instinctively. I do know that on exiting the car, I looked at it from beside the front wing to check the new parking position, and that I noticed that the wheels were dirty (which surely implies the car wasn't rolling away at that point). ... Thanks all for the help.
Sorry all - to be clear, it's an electronic brake. From the link, there is a class action in the US claiming that there is a bug in the software meaning that under certain circumstances, the EPB doesn't apply correctly. There had already been a US recall of 2016 cars although only automatics, now found the official link here:...
me and family need to get new car due to ULEZ and need a 7 seater.
We had this Mazda 5 www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/20191014330...5 in mind but I have paid for RAC history check and found only last 5 years of MOT history of which 3 were fails. are they something to worry about for the future if I bought this car? ... Read more
Good cars these and there’s nothing particularly scary on that Mot history. Look for a full service history with evidence of annual oil changes. Chain driven engines in particular don’t take kindly to neglect but look after it and there are few vices. Look for rust underneath too.
My wife sent me this clip of what Tomorrows World reckoned our houses would be like in 2020!,
The world in general seems to lack the foresight to develop fairly simple systems to solve simple problems. We have PV panels and they are fine and keep our bills down to a small proportion of what our neighbours pay. That combined with a sustainable and correctly fuelled wood burner means we pay very little and use less energy. There are construction methods that are cheap, simple and sustainable to employ that would revolutionise the house building industry. I once inspected a house constructed largely of waste paper formed into various forms to enable construction in a fairly conventional way. Cheap and easy to do and maintain and very sustainable. Extra care had to be given to weatherproofing and certain maintenance tasks but it certainly showed what can be done. Two problems thwarted that project, Firstly, local building control. Secondly. mortgage lenders. Both were too wary of the problems and not the benefits. Same old, same old!! Other methods are viable too but often fail for the same reasons. I remember in the early 70's trying to get our local building control to relax the regulations and let us use PVC underground drainage systems. I was told by the old codgers that ruled the roost that " We have used clay for drains for a thousand years and it won't change now". There is now hardly any clay or iron drainage on sites these days, hasn't been for 30 years or so. Things move on, so must we. PVC isn't the best example for sustainability but it illustrates the thinking of hide bound bureaucrats that do not like change.

I find it amazing how so many people who could easily get by with a standar car now own huge 4x4 double cabs and off-roaders.
But then who am I when I live on my own and drive a Mazda3 when, apart from going on holiday and one or two other occasions (hiring a bigger car when needed) in the year could easily get by with a car the next size down. I could've save myself quite a bit of fuel into the bargain....
