I have a Focus estate 1.6 zetec 55 plate, bought it in July last year and was happily getting 39mpg , now only getting 33.5 mpg..is this simply down to winter?I drive sensibly but only do 6 miles to work in morning and then back at night plus running around after kids.Would doing so little mileage really lose me 6mpg?.
Any help appreciated Read more

Looking outside much earlier this frosty morning(baby stuff)i took note of
my neighbours choice of transport and it seems Japanese is the most popular
on our street,we have an Accord, two houses to the left both have Civics, two to
right a Jazz and another Civic, over the way a CRV and a Mazda 6 this across a
wide age range 30 to 80. We have a few BMW's but a distinct lack of anything
French,anything dominate your street ?

In lots of places local dealerships must influence many patterns. Where we used to live
half the close had Fiats because there was a very well established local family garage
that had the Fiat dealership.

>>
Interesting observation as the next village has a Subaru dealership(no Subaru's in my road) and the nearest town has just a Peugeot dealership( none of them either in my road).
As its a fairly affluent area,I suppose its going to have more expensive cars on the driveways, although no Audi's and only one beemer. I did admire my neighbours Discovery in the recent bad weather, driving up the hill like a scalded cat.I shall report back on its reliability.

Hi,

This morning I'm 100% certain I've been 'done' by a video van, as I went straight passed it on a dual carriageway (Leeds Road, Wakefield).

The limit is 40 mph and I think I was doing around 60mph. It was foggy as well - stupid I know, but 'he who is without sin......' etc etc.

Anyway, my question is, what is going to be the most likely outcome here? Will the fog be taken into account and used against me? What speed would I need to have been doing to get more than 3 points?

Or am I likely to just get £60 and 3 points notice?

A bit worried about this today so could do with my mind being put at ease please.

Thanks,

Paul.

...Anyway, my question is, what is going to be the most likely outcome here?...

Fine, points and possibly a short ban.

A rough guideline is that 'half as much again' over the limit puts you in banning territory, but it is just that, a rough guildeline.

The fog could be seen as an aggravating feature, but obviously not if you get the offer of a fixed penalty.

Daughter went to adjust the interior mirror, came off in her hand, along with a chunk of glass where it had been bonded on. I said ring autoglass, she decided and good for her to talk to the local dealersip in Bognor, within a day Fiat approved a free replacemnet screen. Has it happened to any body else?? Read more

Windscreen replaced, make pilkington, with a fiat stamp, no charge as under warranty.

Looking around the site I came across the 'recommended dealer' pages, where 'Hat's are awarded on the basis of member feedback and the participation of the garage in schemes to promote good service, etc, etc, etc....

Scanning the list for my area I was frankly astonished to see a dealer, whom I know absolutely be be thoroughly dishonest, proudly sporting his three trilby's!

Obviously no naming/shaming/or other potentially litigious comments - but here's what happened in my case.

Went to see a brand new car late one Friday afternoon. Specifically asked the dealer whether the diesel fuel pump was a certain brand - because I'd read some alarming reports about similar vehicles fitted with these particular pumps requiring replacement (at vast expense) usually just out of warranty.

What I wanted was a Bosch system. Dealer claimed not to know whether the pump was Bosch, but said he'd check with the importers after the weekend.

Fair enough - took the car for a test run, and told the dealer that I'd be back with my family to try the car after the weekend - subject to he car having a Bosch fuel pump, of course.

Dealer virtually insisted on his sales manager following me home with the demonstrator vehicle 'To save my family the trouble of making the trip to see the car'

Well.....OK.....if that's what they wanted - no skin of my nose, and it wouldn't do any harm.

Family duly takes a run in the car, and like it.

Sales manager then asks if I'd like to buy it - 'yes' - but only if it's got a Bosch pump (or, at least, not the horror story pumps) and we wouldn't know until Monday when the importers could be contacted.

"No problemo", breezed the SM - except that the special finance deal was coming to an end, and if we were to benefit from it a car had to be ordered as soon as possible (I know...I know)

SM made suggestion - pay a £500 deposit to allow an order to be placed on the system - and if it transpired that the fuel pump was one of the dodgy brand, no problem, the £500 would be immediately refunded.

What was there to lose?.....

So, a call to his boss at the dealership who confirmed the refund, if necessary, and a £500 credit card payment duly made, lot's of handshaking, and exit one happy SM

On the fol owing Monday it soon became clear that the car *did* have the unwanted fuel pump! - so, although a bit disappointed because I fancied the car, it was a quick call to the dealership to cancel the sale as agreed.

That was when he took off all three of his hats - and refused point blank to refund the money!

He denied having said he didn't know the make of pump fitted to the car, he denied having given me telephone confirmation of his SM's assurance that the deposit would be handed back if the pump turned out to be not a Bosch unit, he told me that he'd invested time and money in the sale, that the new car was on its way, and that, whatever the reason, they *never* refund deposits.

All of which left me a bit flummoxed.

There was no contract, nothing had been signed (because the deal was done via the telephone when the SM accompanied me home) - but it still took MasterCard nearly a month to extract the money from this three-hatted fraudster.

So, you can understand why I view the gent's with the hats on the Good Garage page with more than a degree of scepticism ;)

Hi all this is my first post so can you please help me?
I have brought a citroen dispatch in december 2.0l HDI,
I am only doing roughly 30-35 miles on £10 of diesel, i have changed the fuel filter, glow plugs, thermostat and the expansion bottle cap due to it getting warm either? the van sits at 70degrees and takes a while to get to this roughly 5-8 miles.
The van starts and drives good plenty of power and no smoke, i have had the van on a scanner and the only code was P1108 which is to do with the fan i believe. I would like to thank you in advance for any help in these matters. Read more

I`m having trouble thinking of a single new topic now - not really writers block, but more burnout on the subject.
Perhaps it`s better if you`re more into debating. I was never really into that - it was more about attempts to create `stand alone content` - to generate a little good feeling. Mostly.

Creating `content` here has been interesting - a slate on which to write - just for amusement with no deadlines to meet - unlike the professional writer, or Journalist.

I know one Gentleman well on this site, a friend who fits into both these categories and have read some of his work - both real and fiction. Some of these works are remembered as vividly for their ability to shock and cause reflection - as for the deep insights into the culture and nature of what it mean to be Human.. A quality very rarely found in books, where that level of academic content is often abandoned as a nod to `the lower common denominator` of the `cash cow`
Unseen works then - some real gems that enhance the quality of life by having read them.

I was reflecting on these matters and considering the Journalist and professional writer. The need to `produce` to keep the wolf from the table regardless of `block` or `burnout` - and turn out content of a quality that passes the editor - time after time.

Even within the confines of `motoring` as a subject - although surely the mind leaps it`s confinement and writes with both a finer and broader brush, across a new canvas with a palette of spring freshness - gold and silver threads, from sack cloth and ashes.

>>it's meaningless, wordy drivel.<<

It is exceptionally clear that the reviewer thinks the car is awful and his use of langage could not be more precise.

If you want wordy drivel that is all about the author rather than the car can I refer you the reviews of J Clarkson?

A misfire can be several things why i asked about the water is when water leaks internally it leaks into the cylinders and sprays on the spark plug causing a misfire.

But do check above for vac leaks etc. failing that take it to a good local indie for a inspection.
