We have a VAG stereo from an Octavia II that a customer wants to us to fit into a Fabia II. It will physically fit, but I think the Octavia is CANbus 2.0 and the Fabia uses CANbus 1.6. I dont know what the implications of this are and we dont want to start the job and waste time, or worse still do damage. Does anyone have sufficient genuine knowledge to comment on whether this will work or not (Im not interested in speculation).
I had a search of the internet and looked on the skoda forum but couldnt find anything useful. Read more

OK, thanks for the input. 130Euro is out of the question because the customer only paid £200 for the stereo. It has no extra features (sterring wheel control etc) so I think we will go ahead and fit it and see how we get on. Obviously we check the key connections (power, gnd and speakers). That's all we need really.

hi,i have a citroen xsara,(not picasso)1.4,w reg,78000 mls,the last couple of weeks the clutch has been slipping'.i've only ever done a clutch replacement on a rwd car,is it worth trying it myself or would it be just quick and simple going to a local 'clutch centre'.also would be better going to a main dealer and getting a 'genuine' clutch kit,i've been told there motor factor type clutch's are wafer thin and only last about 20,000/2 years.any info would be appreciated. you can can get an OE Valeo clutch from GSF for about half the price the dealer will want. A 1.4 shouldn't be too bad, probably take all day working steadily.

Ive run the heater test (heater doors and cooldown) and it failed. Now I am left with flashing lights and I dont know how to fix the heater problems that the diagnostic shows and I can't afford either. Can anyone tell me how can I stop these lights from flashing?

The fuel gauge is not working on the dashboard since doing this test also. I don't know if its related to the test but it happened just after.

Am i correct you have been reading the Ecu for fault codes stored?

Now another fault has come up, you could take the neg lead off the battery for 30 seconds this "may" re set the ecu and put all back it worked on another car.

I just got a reminder through from the dealership that my 12 month service is due soon.

According to the V5C the vehicle registration date is March 25th 2009. Is that the date from which the service due date is calculated (i.e. the 12 month service should be done by March 25th 2010)?

Also, if I were to take it in, say on February 20th, would the next service be due by February 20th 2011 or March 25th 2011 (assuming March 25th is the current due date)?

Any guidance appreciated. Thanks.

The other issue is that as now so many cars are "fly by wire", only the Franchised Dealer has access to the necessary software for updates, full fault detection and reconfiguration. Electronic Gearboxes is a typical example.

While this may be considered anti-competitive (and a down right pain for minor items), the manufacturers have done all the research and developement, and wish to protect their commercial interests.

I have a problem starting my saxo vtr 01. When turning the key the engine turns over very slowly and will not start. This problem has been getting worse over time. Also I used to be able to jump start the car but not any more. The battery and alternater have been checked and seem ok. Also when turning the key the fuel gauge drops off to zero while the engine is turning over. Any help greatly appreciated. Read more

I am delighted that my awarding wnning and excellent local franchised dealer is not listed.

Well, we don't want all the whinging riff raff who neglect their cars coming round and messing it up for the regulars. Read more

Which car do you most associate with scumbags or snip ? For me it has to be the Range Rover ' Sport ' ( nothing sporting about such a cumbersome car anyway ) . Was thinking this today when a gold tooth type undertook me at speed, whilst on the mobile..

Hi!

After scouring pretty much every car dealers website looking for probably the most awkward list of features you will find and failing ive come here so hopefully some kind person could point me in the direction of a car that has the following features:

120g/km or below co2 emmisions - cheap road tax
Automatic/Semi-Automatic Transmission - what can i say? im too lazy to change gears :D
Relatively Punchy - I hate cars with 0-60 in forever
Good MPG - Dont you hate putting a full days pay cheque in your car weekly!

It would be nice if i could get it with:

5 Door
Arm Rest
Keyless Entry

Im open to any make/model and price so does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Would also suggest the Prius. I've not driven the new one but I surprised myself by liking the old one. Alternatively a Golf BlueMotion.

On the way to Kentish Town early this evening, crossing Edgeware Road at the lights, in the left lane not signalling, was a bit offended by a posh Audi estate which went into the bicycle box a few feeet ahead of me on the right. I wondered if it was going to turn right but couldn't see its signals. When the lights hit green I moved forward. It was a bit slow off the mark so I accelerated. Heh heh! It came snortling past in good time to let me out past the parked cars, somehow managing though to seem a bit indignant as it did so. It was some sort of RS thingy. I chortled to my resignedly and only slightly alarmed wife: 'They can go like stuff off a whassername, those.'

She didn't bother to answer of course, but I didn't feel bad about my slight pushiness in my far-from-quick motor. I was keeping that RS bloke honest. Too often one has waited politely for one of these kings of the road to get their act together only to have them stick their pompous rump in your face and mimse thereafter. It's a public service to remind them that if they have the machine, and put it forward, they owe it to everyone to stay out of the damn way. Read more

Like sitting in a Fabis Diesel VRS at the traffic lights, and guy next door in his BMW 3 litre scoffs at you like you belong on the sole of a shoe. So you take off together, let him have a run for his money, then floor it when you go into third.

And wave!
