I recently bought a 500 ml bottle of car polish. When I came to use it I found it was very runny, and much runnier than similar bottles I'd previously bought. I informed the manufacturer who asked me to send them a sample in the sample bottle they provided. I've just received a reply from them which said that the product was contaminated. They didn't say what it was contaminated with, but I suspect that it was water and also I suspect that the bottle had had some of the contents removed by an employee at the store I bought it from and that he/she had then topped it up with water. It's unlikely that the (probably automated) production process had gone wrong without the manufacturer lknowing about it. You could tell it was runny by shaking the bottle, and in future I'm going to shake bottles of thick liquids before I buy them.
I suggest you do the same.
The manufacturer was entirely fair about it by sending me a cheque for the purchase price and the postage I had paid, plus another bottle of the polish. Read more
1994 third generation shape, excellent condition, 109000 miles, runs like a dream!...and could you see yourself driving a car like that? only i know of such a car and i,m unsure of whether making an offer or not. Read more
Don't be put off by the age or the reg plate SM, if the car is in good mechanical condition with a rust free body you'll be getting a future appreciating classic at it's lowest ever price...but be realistic as to it's originality and it's real condition...
just because its shiny still goes well and sounds nice doesn't mean there's not horror stories in it's past,, and along that vein it doesn't want decking out in bling (barried) which happens to too many good cars...not suggesting you'd do that but many have already been so afflicted with bodykits etc and are ruined.
If it has been aftermarket bodykitted out it's worth virtually nothing imo.
Look after it baby it rustproof it and enjoy it, and smugly carry on driving this totally reliable relatively simple and fairly unusual car around whilst owners of sporty coupe's of later years bristling with computers and sensors giving up daily look on enviously.
Hi there, I'm driving a Citroen Synergie HDI 2.0 and was recently getting twitchy about the mileage, I'm up to 140k. But browsing the web last night I spotted another HDI Synergie with 398,500 miles!!! (on www.mpvcar.co.uk). Now I feel reassured! Surely this is green motoring at it's best?! Make's my paltry 140k look like once round the block.
Anyway, it got me thinking, what's the highest mileage HDi or MPV anyone's got or seen??
Thanks! Freewheel Read more
It was fairly common for Peugeot 504 diesels to top 400 000 miles ... hence their popularity in sub-saharan Africa.
That, and the fact that they're assembled out there, and there is a huge import tax on other cars brought into the country (at least that was the case when I lived in kenya, 10 years ago). They'd also just started assembling the 405, Subaru leone and Subaru Legacy.
Discussions over the relative merit of 14 bhp vs 20 ft/lb torque got me thinking this evening.
Other than when overtaking, does power really help with progress when driving on real roads? Obviously to an extent it's vital, but once you're up to a decent level, say your average 140 bhp diesel, does it really make much difference?
As an example, I remember following a friend of mine on some glorious rural roads in the middle of nowhere in Scotland. He was in an R32, I was in a 2.2 Honda diesel; he could absolutely blitz me on a race track, but I can honestly say I had no problem keeping up with him 90% of the time, and for the other 10% it wansn't so much a lack of power as a lack of bravery that stopped me.
So, other than to safely get around peterextremelyexhaustbaffling (credit to Cheddar there), what's the point?
P.S. to be clear, I still want an RS6 Avant, but I'm just not sure exactly why. Read more
Surely lbft/min is wrong it should be lbft x (360-degree revolustions) / minutes.
That part isn't wrong.
In the SI version,
One Watt = One Newton metre * One radian per second
The measure of angle, the radian, is dimensionless as it is a ratio of two lengths, namely the arc length divided by the radius.
You may find the use of radians odd, but, I bet that you learnt an equation using radian measure when you were very small. If you have learnt that the circumference of a circle is 2pi multiplied by the radius, then, the 2pi expresses the angle turned through as radians;
So,
2pi radians = 360 degrees
pi radians = 180 degrees
etc, etc
and C = 2pi * r is just a specific case of the more general formula S = theta * r, where S is the arc length, r the radius, and theta, the angle in radians.
In science and the more technical side of engineering, radinas are always used in preference to more arbitrary units of angle like degreees.
So, in terms of units, Watts are equvalent to Nm/s - there's no need for the angular measure to appear at all.
i have just had a hart attack and i have been given a 1.0 12v corsa but when i have been out in it and i go to increas my speed the eng/light comes on and if feels as the car is missing i can then take my foot off the peddle and put it back on slower, but i can only do this upto 65to70 mph could anyone help to find the out wat it is please. Last summer whilst I was parked at our local hospital, the car in front reversed into me as he was about to leave.
We exchanged details and I had my car checked the following day but other than a small mark on the bumper it was fine and I was happy to leave it. The other guy had already contacted his insurers and they phoned me to tell me to take my car to one of their repairers but I just told them there was no damage and as far as I was concerned that was an end to the matter.
Yesterday - 6 months later, I got a call from an Indian call centre referring to my "collision" last year (he had the location too). Had I had the car repaired and did I realise how I was entitled to compensation for injuries and inconvenience! He was surprisingly insistent that it would be easy to claim for neck or back injuries.
Now, I realise that these ambulance chasing firms exist but surely they can only have got the details of this incident from the original chaps insurers. Why on earth would they want to encourage a claim against themselves by (presumably) selling the data? Or have I missed some obvious principle of business? Read more
i had exactly the same call this week at work
i did a 1471 and it told me it was a skype phone using a local number to make it look local
the bad english and the fact i could here the ganges swishing in the background gave the location away
i told the caller to go get on his India Match and go multiply
Hi there - apologies if this topic has already been answered elsewhere but I couldn't find anything with a search!
I have a 2003 VW Passat TDI 1.9 automatic estate which is regularly serviced etc and had a new alternator pulley fitted a couple of months ago. Has about 48,000 miles on it.
Today it did a funny thing 3 times - when it changed between gears (I was driving around town so between the lower gears in case that makes a difference) it did a strange jolt/jump.
It might have been my imagination but i think it was when I applied a bit more pressure to the accelerator eg. pulling away from lights or speeding up to overtake. The rest of the time the gears seemed to change fine.
I have a lovely man at a local garage and am wondering if I should take it in to be checked.....though nothing has come up on the dash and it was fine for the final leg of the journey.
Any ideas or advice would be gratefully appreciated!

Hi, as stated in previous thread, no available code readers until 2001 ect etc, so i take it no one no's how to flash code read a V40.
I have tried shorting pins 2 & 3 for 2 secs to get the codes out, by flashing a LED light fitted to pins 2&3.
I have also tried with a multilmeter to flash, not easy with multimeter, rather be able toget the LED to work.
Any ideas ??

Please anyone has any idea about the cost of front windscreen repair/replacement. I have VW polo - V reg. If yes, where can I get it done cheaply. I am thinking of changing the car, as it gives recurrent problems one after other. Read more
last one i paid $85 all in
obviously depends where you live but you need to look through yellow pages that blue telephone book and in the autotrader (other periodicals are available but the print comes off too easy) for an independant man and van windscreen fitter that tired of working for the big boys but is good to boot (but not your windscreenas they are delicate)
even cheaper alternative is do it yourself
cheese wire for the job is £12
a s/h windscreen you cut out yourself £20
stick of windscreen glue £10
only takes an hour to cut out and refit a new one
2.45pm today I'm quietly making my way along the main road of a local town approaching a set of lights at a T junction.
Left hand lane was solid, I was in the right hand lane which was clear to the lights. I'm approaching a box junction to allow egress from a minor road on the left. A car emerges into the gap left by the courteous driver in the left hand lane. Driver wants to turn right so looks left, he fails to look right as he probably forgot it's two lanes he's crossing and hits the rear wheel arch and wheel of my car.
Very little visible damage (slight dint in rear arch and alloy is damaged) as he set off from almost a standstill and hit me plumb on the rear wheel after a couple of metres, but I suspect rear geometry may be out.
At least he was insured - young lad paying over £2k a year for his 10 year old Polo!
I'll see how good LV really are now. Read more
I'd agree it looks at first glance a rather daft way of situating pedestrian crossings... but there is a logic to it... history dictates that all the shops tend to be situated around the crossroads therefore situating the crossing a hundred yards down the road will mean that people don't use them and try to "dodge" the traffic at the crossroads... probably ending up with more accidents...

That is why they invented tamper proof tops! To stop oiks taking a swig from bottles etc. Surely the polish had a tamper proof cap of some sort? the last polish I had was ( is) in a tin and is paste, hard to nick that but I suppose you could put some lard back.
