Is this the highest mileage on an MPV (HDi)? - Freewheel
Hi there, I'm driving a Citroen Synergie HDI 2.0 and was recently getting twitchy about the mileage, I'm up to 140k. But browsing the web last night I spotted another HDI Synergie with 398,500 miles!!! (on www.mpvcar.co.uk). Now I feel reassured! Surely this is green motoring at it's best?! Make's my paltry 140k look like once round the block.

Anyway, it got me thinking, what's the highest mileage HDi or MPV anyone's got or seen??

Thanks! Freewheel

Surely not! A French car that's done nearly 400,000!! What will the French car-bashers make of that?

I bet half of those miles were done on the end of a tow rope. :)

No its that old electrical issue of every time you shut the door, it automatically clicks up 21k miles on your odometer, that has plagued peugeots from time to time.

It was fairly common for Peugeot 504 diesels to top 400,000 miles with only routine servicing some manage far higher milages. The suspension and steering was pretty much indestructable too - hence their popularity in sub-saharan Africa.

But the way in which the miles are piled on counts for a lot. A taxi will do high mlage as it is in use every day. Too many cars suffer from DCS- Dozy car syndrome, many cars just forget how to work and sieze up.

Synergie/806/Useless was chosen as the base vehicle for Eurotaxi with good reason, i wonder if the next generation of models will cover those mileages with quite the same reliability.

That, and the fact that they're assembled out there, and there is a huge import tax on other cars brought into the country (at least that was the case when I lived in kenya, 10 years ago). They'd also just started assembling the 405, Subaru leone and Subaru Legacy.

And a common rail diesel powered one to boot! Kind of explodes the myth that all common rail diesels are ticking timebombs which grind to an expensive, terminal halt at a young age.

Although we don't know the history of the car, nobody is going to spend £000's keeping an essentially value-less car running, so it's reasonable to assume the car hasn't sprung too many expensive surprises.

We had a Ulysse for a while, had over 100k on the clock when we bought it and and it was a very good car, certainly not useless at all.

For what it's worth we currently have two Espaces, one on 170k and the other over 200k - they must be the exceptions that prove the rule ;)

Been thinking more about the Synergie range...were they the last MPV virtually identical to the similarly sized vans Pug Expert (Eurotaxi), Dispatch, Scudo of the time.

Maybe the van underpinnings gives them the edge to stand hard use for a long time.

You'll have to forgive my misspell AshT..we always wrote Useless instead of Ulysse on the delivery notes to upset the office wallahs..;)

No worries about the misspell GB - it's all to a good cause;)

The French 'drive' their cars - treated like this they seem to go on and on. Mollycoddle them and they don't know what to make of it, and throw their toys out of the pram. Well, that's my excuse for thrashing my Xantia anyway :-))

Also I've always said if you think a Citroen might be unreliable then don't buy one in case you get what you wish for!

Nope ... the Hyundai i800 is an H-Van with seats.

Saw a couple of these in Japan being used as taxis when I was over there last year (surprised me really as the Japanese don't usually go in much for Korean products). One had 300,000Km on it and seemed to be going well. Petrol engine as well.

'Value-less'. Surely the value of the car is that as it doesn't go wrong it doesn't need money spent on it, by your definition. The mere fact that you can't sell it for much is something else entirely.

Sorry, poor choice of terminology, but you know what I mean. Nobody is going to keep an unreliable car which springs the odd four figure bill for 400,000 miles.
