A car key has snapped off in a door (unsure what car, but it's either an R reg Astra, or a Suzuki Ig.). The piece has been extracted. Is it possible to join the pieces (silver solder?)? Could a key cutter make another one (like they did for my '95 Cavalier)?
Unsure whether this should go in "Discussion" or "Technical", BTW. Read more

Hi there, the ABS light came on the dash, the diagnostic said there was a problem with the sensor on the rear n/s wheel. So I changed the sensor, I also changed the one on the other side whilst I was at it. I then re-set the ecu but the light still stays on!.....Im totally stumped, and a bit annoyed, Any ideas? Sorry to bring this up, but has anyone considered that the ABS light and even possibly the error code(s) may be caused by the old corrosion on the instrument PCB contacts problem. I had an intermittant ABS light and I cleaned the PCB solder joints with contact cleaner and its was totally fixed. My ABS seemed to work perfectly throughout this problem.
Just a thought.....

I once drove off in my MGB with the crooklock on, it is disconcerting when the steering and brakes don't work. I'd been told to lock the brake pedal rather than the clutch as you could snap off the crooklock by stamping on the clutch pedal. better at preventing theft maybe not a good idea for safety... Luckily the handbrake stopped me just short of the parked car I'd tried to steer around.
I was in my twenties at the time, no old age excuse available!
The remote central locking on my car seems to only work when it wants. Central locking is fine when I use the key in the doors.
I've re-programmed the key a few times and replaced the batteries. Mine is an old 2 button key with the little glass eye on it.
I'm pretty sure it's the fob the light does come on when I press the buttons but it doesn't tend to do anything unless I spend 10 minutes trying.
I've been in touch with ford and it's going to cost a lot to replace the fob and then even more to code it.
Has anyone got any ideas on a cheaper alternative?

That sounds about right if mines anything to go by. I?m hoping that because it?s remote central locking anyway then fitting an after market kit shouldn?t be too hard seems as all the bits are already there.
My car have strange behaviour on starting when the engine is cold. Its always fail on first attemp to start and have no problem at all at second try, just smooth and normal. I have to do this.
1. Turn the key to M (ignition) till it ready (the tripmeter already show).
2. Turn The key Off
3. Turn the key to M (ignition again), till it ready and start. Then doing just fine.
Then after the engine start and I turn it off again, and then when I try to start it again it has no problem at all, start at the first attemp.
Any Idea what is happening ??? Read more

Focus, now that
data.gov.uk/
is open for business (it already has 72 datasets that match a search for "vehicle" I see) then what you want may find its way there in due course.
In an idle moment, had a look at the 'new' Punto Evo on the Fiat website.
These are some of the colours it comes in.....

Acid Jazz Blue
Porgressive Black
and, best of all, "Easy Listening White"! Yes, Easy Listening White.

Engine revs surge, especially when cold. Car lurches when pulling away, sometimes to the point of stalling. Revs sometimes stay on when slowing down. Have had diagnostic & shows "Throttle position improbable" Dealer says it could be any of 3 components. Throttle position sensor, wiring loom or Air flow meter. Their solution, replace parts systematically, at my expense, until they find the fault! Anyone any experience or ideas pelase?
Also when driving normally the engine management light has flashed on & the engine stopped momentarily before returning to normal. No fault logged on computer & this has happened twice. Read more
If the problem is reasonable predictable and repeatable can they drive the car and monitor live data?
After years of scootering, I'm going back to the warmth and dryness of a car. I'll be using it 1-2x a week at 35miles a pop, on my own mostly.
I used to drive an N reg Corsa 1.4 for about 6 years, and it served me well. I'd probably look for something of a similar size again. Looks/cool factor aren't that important, reliability and economy are.
Of course, I want to spend as little as possible, but not so little I drive away with a pile of rust. What do you ladies and gents recommend setting as a budget for a car that'll get me from A to B reliably and cheaply for the next 3 years or so?
And any model suggestions? I'm being deliberately open minded to start with.
Thanks in advance. Read more
