Hi there,

Have noticed over the last month that when driving at low speed and revs I am getting what to me appears excessive emissions. Have had for just under 1 year and got about 14k on the clock.

Have taken the car into the dealer who have stated that this is normal and is just condensation, although they did say that the oil levels were high so have taken it back to the garage that serviced the car to rectify. The thing that concerns me is that I see nothing similar with other cars on the road.

Have read the discussion thread on Mazda 6 DPF filter problems and am concerned that this could be something similar although it is a petrol DISI engine.

Anybody have any thoughts? Read more

I bought a 2 year old CX7 with 9500 miles on the clock 2 months ago, 3 weeks ago it started to smoke occasionally after a few minutes at idle. 2 weeks ago it started to smoke after hard acceleration. Booked it straight into my local Mazda dealer who is now replacing the turbo under warranty; The only problem is, there aren't any in the country and the dealer can't as yet tell me when they can get one.

The powers that be and others want car use diminished. When I was young hardly anyone had cars and people worked within waliking distance or a short cheap bus ride. Now we have a situation where there are millions of cars and people have to use them to get to work. I remember my dad saying in the not too distant past this was a seemingly big country taking a long time to get round and now you can drive top to bottom in a few hours. You just can't go back. Under what logic train travel costs more than car travel?

Have you factored in everything that the rail companies have to? Like the commuter's car, it is mainly used at rush hour. Services have to continue through the day when they make less profit, and at off-peak times when pay rates may be higher. Your car incurs heavy hidden costs which you pay for in tax etc.

Think about it. Then make an offer to run the railways at a profit.

Having 9 years NCB, when I reversed into a truck the other day (no damage to truck) I decided not to claim for the repairs to my estate tailgate on the insurance as it is almost time for a new policy, the repairs would be £350 -v- £100 excess and loss of no claims.

Now, just 5 days later, I have had a parking accident whereby I have scraped my neighbours front wing and damaged my rear passenger door and rear wing. Realistically, it's going to have to be an insurance job - thus negating my 'savings' from the earlier bump.

Is there a practical way to get the first bump dealt with at the same time? Both incidents were my fault, both within a week of each other & only one other driver will need compensating. Read more

clearly its an unlucky motor.

Nah, I don't go for that - if anything is unlucky it's the driver (and I hope my wife doesn't swap that!)

Following on from this, the front leather seats in my Bora have gone a bit shiney compared to the semi matt finish that the rear seats still have.

Is there a product that can return them to this semi matt finish ?

Ok, Ill give as much information as I can. Ive had the car about 8 months, trouble free. In this recent snowy spell, I was sat waiting for my kid at school with the engine running. It didnt overheat or anything, just idling normally as you do. Upon driving home, the throttle seemed to stick open between gear changes. It was only idle power, not accelerating power if you know what I mean. Ive checked the cable which is free and smooth running. Ive had it diagnosticly checked and no fault codes are standing. Checked for air leaks, none found.. After a little research, i found a common problem to be the Idle Air Control Valve, which I replaced.. it made little difference if any. So i looked at the Throttle Position Sensor.. Ive replaced it, and its made no difference. Heres the twist, when I unplug the Throttle Position Sensor, the car runs fine and drives how it should, although the tickover is sometimes a little lumpy. Obvioulsy the TPS is there for a reason, so driving without it is probably not a great idea.. Has anyone got any ideas as to what it could be or had this problem with thier focus? Also, what are the likely consequences of driving with the TPS disconnected?

Cheers for any help. Read more

Just recently an intermittent fault has developed with my car. When stopping at lights or junctions the engine just cuts out (this is not due to stalling). It may do it a few times on a 10 mile journey or not at all. It doesn't matter if the engines hot or cold. When it happens it starts straight away with the key. It is not missing at all through the range of driving speeds and the rev counter doesn't vary. I never experience loss of power when driving, Help! Confused! Read more

I also should have mentioned that when the engine cut out the other day, "engine immobilizer failure" came up on the dash!!! Please help, if you can!!!

Hiya,

I was wondering if anybody could help...?

Came back from uni to my saxo 1.1 forte , has been sitting in the drive for about 2 months now, through the snow etc, started it up a few times but gave it a 'drive' the other day loads of grey smoke gushing out the exhaust , the engine was very spluttery and struggling to gain speed. I drove it back home worried I would cause damage.

I looked at the oil and all looks okay, haven't the first clue what could be wrong.. but seems pretty serious, could hardly move beyond 30-40. Maybe because the cold and hasn't been driven for a few months?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

my 03 tdci 130 hasthe glow plug light flashing. It was driving fine although a tad underpowered, so i assumed an injector was out. now it turns over but wont start, although tries to. Very lumpy and a fair bit of smoke. it has done 160k. i dont know when the glow plugs were changed so it could be this too, but is there a way of checking which injectors are out, if any? also are glow plugs hard to change on these?
thanks

In a nutshell, no, there is no way to DIY check which injector is faulty. Even if you knew, it wouldnt help.

I read with interest an article in the FT yesterday that said the general election may well be won by the changing vote of "motorway man" a shorthand marketing speak for people who live in constituencies in the Midlands and the North now with alot of infill new housing estates who drive alot, for work and for leisure, who take or use alot of carbon intensive resources to fly and move about....

www.ft.com/cms/s/0/0283fcbe-06f5-11df-b058-00144fe...l

If so (and trying to keep this motoring related) it looks interesting. How is any government going to appeal to them when they're defined by their high consumption of something the government wants to cut back on - excessive car use and a car dependency culture plus one taking alot of flights...
