RampantParanoia

Hi all

I've got a 306 D-turbo and the remote central locking is playing up. I've replaced the batteries in the fob and reprogrammed it but it still won't do anything when I press either of the buttons. I reckon it is the reciever that is faulty but I can't get the roof console off to look at it. Can anyone tell me how to get it off? It's the smaller console without the sunroof controls btw

Sorry if this is a stupid question but I can't see any way to get it off :( Read more

RampantParanoia

That's a good idea, thanks
The fob doesn't seem to be making any flashes on the screen, although the red LED flashes. I'll check it with some more cameras (and cars if I'm lucky) before I write it off :)
Even if it is the fob, not being able to get the roof console off is annoying me now lol

hi my next door neighbour is always at my door for a jump start he says every time he charges his battery its always dead again in the morning.he has put a brand new alternater in and bought two new batterys and its still the same.
I had a look at it and put a 20amp tester on it to see how much currant it was drawing and it blew the fuse!.
I traced it back to one of the heavy wires at the battery that is connected to the power steering when i disconnected the wire the battery only drew 0.25amps and everything worked on the car apart from the power steering which now has the little sign on the dash lit up.
when i connect it back up the light goes out could it be a faulty pump motor? i dont think the torque sensers would cause it to draw more than 20amps! also the lights flicker when you turn the steering, has anyone had the same problem.

thanks tom. Read more

Same model, same year, same problem! I blew the fuse on my multimeter too. Only difference is that TWO of the heavy wires from the battery (2nd and 3rd from left on fuse plate) are drawing heavy current. If I leave both of them disconnected, the entire ignition system is dead and instrument panel is completely blank.

(From the article)
It?s not only old car drivers who can benefit. Happy Returns will allow those who were savvy enough to buy a Hyundai using scrappage another chance to pick up an unbeatable deal and own another new Hyundai.

Owners who bought a new i10, i20 and i30 last year will be invited to swap it for a brand new Hyundai wearing the new ?10? registration. The swap can be made any time up until the car?s first anniversary, saving the customer the cost of the first service and tax disc renewal. The new car will of course also have a new five year warranty.

The customer?s contribution to the deal will be £499 for an i10, £599 for an i20 or £749 for an i30. Customers will be able to trade up and down the range if they want to switch to a different car or add options.

What do we think of this idea? I reckon its a go-er, though poor old "apple" still hasn't had his first i10 let alone a new one.

We've got an i30 1.4 Comfort and i'm definitely going to consider trading it for a brand new version (now with bigger alloys, leather steering wheel and gearknob). Just need to see the full T&C's, ie if you bought a scrappage car with metallic, does the new one get it included in the £749 etc. Read more

We have just traded our 9 month old i10 in for a new one and are delighted with the deal. Extras like metallic paint are not included in the deal but if you are happy with the red cars then a new i10 can be yours for £499. We won't have to pay out for a first service or for road tax so it is costing us something like £265 for a new car with a new 5 year warranty. The garage assured us that this is the last time that hyundai will do this deal but I think I'll be checking with them again in about a years time to see what offers are available.

Hello all,

today my wife filled her 2003 Audi 2.5tdi to the brim in Petrol (62lts worth).

she only noticed when she came to put the nozzle back on the pump and found Mr Diesel was still home !.

Luckily she did NOT start the car....... however inorder to push the car out of way the ignition had to be put on to free up the steering wheel and put the car in N (it is an automatic)

I HOPE and pray that a full tanke drain should do the trick.. because the car had not actually run out of fuel am I right in assuming that techincally no Petrol should have made it to the Injector pump?.. of course the electronic lift pump would have kicked in but fingers crossed.

Recovery took the car to a local garage who will drain the trank and change the fuel filter, (I guess that is the moment of truth.....)

Fingers crossed....

I have the same engine and run it on all sorts of mixtures of fuels. It is pretty old tech and should not be affected as long as it isn't started (the fuel in the tank gets the engine very quickly as it is on a constant recirculation return to the tank.)

What could cause a car to lean down on the offside?

Broken spring? but all 4 springs are new - previously both springs on drivers / offside had broken necessitating replacement of all 4. No broken springs now, all visibly seated ok.

Then i thought worn out shock absorbers, rear 2 are new, front 2 are old. The front offside could be sagging down i guess, but i'd expect the car to list down on that corner rather than the whole side, esp given rear shock is new.

Other points maybe worth noting: had the car 3d laser aligned but the dealer couldn't get the camber in spec, as a result the car pulls to the left. Sent me off to replace a couple of ball joints (which i've done).

I'm going to replace the front shocks anyway, but just wondering if there's anything else i should consider ordering up while im at GSF.

Many thanks for reading! Read more

Many thanks for the replies guys. I shall have a twiddle with it all this weekend see if i can't figure it out with these ideas.

Could be none of his and the driver or regular passenger partook of too much Christmas pud and the car doth protest..;)

Although not so much thanks for that bit!! :-P

Hi I wonder if any one in this forum can give me a bit of advice. I have had my fiat punto now for 7 years and it has only 15500 miles as I only use it for shopping and local journeys. I took it for its MOT last week and it was failed on a front spring (something to do with the suspension) Anyway I told the garage to go ahead with the work and was duly charged £140 including the MOT charge and V.A.T. however I was not given any receipt. I was just told the receipt would be in the post. How can I tell if this work has been done. He did give me my M.O.T. certificate. Thanks to all who reply. Read more

Shock was leaking? Or is it a joke I have missed?

As a lot of people on here know, my Corsa has needed no less than four brand new springs in the last year. Ted very kindly fitted my rear ones for me :)

You will know if you have new springs the handeling should be tighter although it does depend on where it snapped. Spring failures seem to be common on cars made from 2000 onwards.

My dads are all original 85k and 13 years old, they are dirty but no rust or anything on them. Modern cars seem to have thiner springs which are made in eastern Europe but of course we have more pot holes too now. Its often rust too that gets these springs.

This is one of mine which had snapped quite badly

It was nine years old at the time so just a little older than your Punto. That had just passed the MOT three weeks before too!

Some advice would be appreciated. My daughter is changing jobs and will have to return her company car. She may take it back or they may collect, we don't know yet. Some months ago her colleague left and the company stopped £250 from her final payments to allow for any damage to the leased vehicle. This payment has not been returned and there seems to be a dispute arising about the situation. My daughter wishes to avoid a similar situation. She intends to have the car fully valeted inside and out and take photographs in the presence of the valet company and another witness so she would have some proof of condition in the event of a dispute. Is there anything else she can do? Is it legal for her company to deduct a sum of money arbitrarily from her final payments? Her employment contract does not mention anything about this. Apparantly her company are noted for not liking it when people leave them and are as awkward as possible. Any useful advice would be appreciated. Concrete. Read more

Employers cannot deduct sums as they see fit from employees wages just as they feel like it, unless the contract specifically allows for this and it is a reasonable use of such a policy.

However, to clarify what is or isn't reasonable or whether or not the employer has the right in this case to make this deduction, means going to a tribunal, which obviously requires careful consideration.

Best seek legal advice before proceeding with anything, I would say.

Is this a common problem ? Here in Sheffield there have been numerous thefts of this type of car. Has anyone else had similar problems ? is it a known weakness or are they being lifted to order by organized gangs ? Read more
