My son has had starting proplems with this car for sometime but always managed to get it to go eventually. Until yesterday.
He called out the AA and the guy managed to start it but when tying the leads together with a cable tie behind the ignition switch the main wire came off so now he doesn't have any supply at all now. He could then do nothing about it so had to leave it.
I'm going over to see if I can make the connection good in any way possible. Is it a soldered connection or possibly a spade connector into the switch?
I suppose it's likely he may even need a new ignition switch fitted but as he can't move the car we would appreciate any advice please. Read more
Less than 4 yr old, 53,000 mile on the clock, recently got error message "insufficient coolant". VW garage (which has always maintained it) advised oil cooler and camshaft needs replacing, £2,500 bill! Considering age & miles, does this seem strange to anyone else? I know very little about cars, however considering warranty is 3 yrs or 60,000 miles, surely these parts are designed to last longer than this? Thanks for your help
{if it's less than 4 yrs old, guessing 2006 for the year then? Got to be closer than 20 which is what it was previously - if incorrect, then please post correct year - DD} Read more
Would one of our France-based contributors mind telling me what a litre of gazole costs these days? We're heading that way tomorrow night and I've still got time to decide whether to travel with a full tank or an empty one.
Much obliged

You can even have the details of prices emailed to you when they change for each chosen specific filling station along your route by using the itinerary menu on the prix-carburants website - I can get up to 6-7 emails a day letting me know what the price is at any given filling station I would use on my regular route through France which is very helpful.
It rained all day today and my GTI lost its tach on the way home, and the oil light started flashing at the same time.... (I have an oil gauge; the pressure's fine.) The tach reads for a second or two after start up, then quits.
I checked the ground to what used to be the oil sending unit (fine) and the three prong courtesy light door switch per another post about the same problem on a diesel model... nothing.
Anybody know this problem, or what the tach and oil light have in common?
I suspect water is the culprit somehow
thanks! Read more
I don't know what the MIL light even is...
It's a picture of an oil can that flashes every two seconds. there's also a loud oil buzzer which is NOT coming on. (I recently replaced the sender with a mechanical oil pump and grounded the sender lead to the block because that annoying buzzer kept coming on)
In any case, the problem fixed itself... not confidence inspiring at all, but I'll take it!
Hi
First post so hello first of all!
Have noticed recently a feint whining noise above 2krpm. Not sure if it started when I was reversing once and the engine laboured due to low revs but is a annoyance never the less. I don't want the usual dealer run around - can't see the problem or say that is normal
It is noticed at higher speeds (50+) on straight runs so no ability to test on corners as this isn't an F1 car
Different topic...
My warranty is to end in a few weeks and am thinking about the renewal but not sure if I will keep the car as it has been the most problematic of any I had tbh but need a 7 seater. Does the extended manufacturer warranty cover disks/pads as they will need changing in a few months? Read more
cam belt or aux (i.e. alternator/coolant pump/power stearing etc) belt sounds like. Does it squeek when the car is first started in the morning?
Best get it checked.

Hi chaps,
The Omega is noted for rotting rear wheel arches. But, does anyone have any experience of how much they cost to repair?
Thanks ............... Robert Read more
Having owned 3 leggy old Omegas and hung about on Omega / vx forums for
years I've never heard of problems with rear wheel arches :-/
Agree - In fact after I'd posted I meant to add I didn't think Omega arches were a rust issue - do you mean Carlton?
It`s Summer (maybe) are you still pumping out the pink slime? Or perhaps the blue?.
Or due you flush the bottle out and just have water as a clear, non screen smearing douche for a glass that`s usually rimed in opaque stains.
Did you ever try going into Carlisle and asking for some meths to clean the screen - third degree from the Chemist - only 21 then though... Maybe I looked like I drank it... Read more
Which has reminded me of the immortal lines :- 'I want you to fill that bottle'. 'What, from here?'
just been having a look around a friends s reg corsa , the brake servo is mounted up near the rain tray ...it looks like leaves have been left to rot and caused a rust hole infornt of the servo
id be pretty sure its a mot fail..and prob shouldve failed on it last time

You can `tell` there`s sufficient torque on it can`t you ( the increasingly feeble forearm) - even if you can get only one hand onto it like me.
Perhaps similar in some ways, to auto kinetic feedback in vision... Only now sometimes it feels like the head bone is connected directly to the leg bone and the middle bit`s still in bed - asleep, or worse.
Do you trust your built in `torque wrench` though as the old arms weaken a bit due to too much lolling on the sofa? What if the `right torque` now registers as enough - but due to a bit of degeneration it`s not..
Do you find yourself looking at those rubber strap wrenches?
None of this applies to me of course..... Read more
Never worried about it until now. Thanks oilrag. Yes I trust(ed) the old forearm to tighten the oil filter the same as I trust the same mechanism for tightening the sump plug. I suppose it's something you have to learn the hard way. If I'm lucky, it'll be one of the mowers that drops its oil on someone's lawn because I haven't tightened the sump plug up enough.
My previous motorcycle's manual specified tightening the oil filter hand tight and then a further TWO turns. I always interpreted that as a misprint for half (1/2) a turn and never lost a filter. Getting the old filter off for the first time was an epic involving strapping the headstock to the garage door up-and-over struts in case my torque on the oil filter removal tool (multiplied by a length of scaffold) tipped the bike over.
My friend has a leak on the hydraulic pipe on the passenger side engine bay coming from the sphere. I was wondering if there is any repair that can be done cutting away the perforated pipe and joining it with tough rubber?
Is this system under high or low pressure?
cheers Read more
It'll be leaking under the pipe clamp on the inner wing... Your local indie might be able to cut the pipe and flare the old one in place and then fit a new section of Kunifer pipe . Otherwise you will need to fit a new pipe right across the back of the engine, which is a right pain if you want to fit it back into all the clips along the bulkhead.

Sorry for delay. Thanks again Robin. No joy with it I'm afraid so its going to be transported to an auto electrics garage on Monday.
