Thanks a lot, I was hoping it was a simple fault that I can fixed, but it seem a code read is needed at the garage.

Some lovely rose tinted reporting in that link.

A mate of mine had one for a while in the late 80s. To be really honest I can't remember if it was a Bagheera or a Murena, but I do remember the really dire build quality, the bits of trim falling off, the cracks in the bodywork, the starting problems and the MOT failure due to a rusted chassis at which point he got rid of it.

Me and my better half are still getting used to the joys of a diesel but one interesting finding came up in conversation the other night.

To be honest we are trying to outdo each other on fuel economy (average per tank)

Where we live is not far from a main motorway that we both use.
When I travel on this road there is more traffic so the car spends more time warming up in traffic before motorway speeds are used.

But for my other half there is no traffic when she uses this road so the engine is still cold when running at motorway speeds.

So my question is, are diesels running at motorway speeds a lot less economical than when warmed up ?

Sorry for a rambling post Read more

My Bentley had an electric blow heater I think. Instant functioning.

The other thing about that car, superb in many ways, was that it stayed warm inside when parked in cold weather for twice as long as any other car I have had. Something to do with weighing 50,000 tons and doing 8 mpg round town I guess.

I've recently taken delivery of a brand new 2.0 Diesel Ghia harchback on standard 17" wheels. Generally very pleased with it. However in a car park I use daily it is very hard over the speed bumps. Its far worse than the 10 or so other cars I've taken over in the past. None of the reviews I've read suggest anything other than the Mondeo has a very good suspension set-up. Have any others experienced speed bump issues with the Mondeo? I did wonder if there are "blocks" or anything to remove as part of the PDI that may have been missed but all looks OK underneath. Any ideas or do i just need to put up with it (and the trail of other users behind me who must think I'm a mimser!) Read more

Some particularly vicious humps have been placed near where I live. They're like piles of floor tiles with sharp angles. They are all turning black now with the tyre rubber they're scraping off. This is disgraceful - probably sponsored by tyre makers!

Now that I am using my Corsa more often and that most the sensors apart from the crankshaft sensor (replaced 40k ago) have almost 81k of wear I think I need some breakdown cover. I have a spanner and a multimeter in the boot but I don't think that will be much use!

I did sign up for that free tomtom cover but I got an email saying it will be active but never recieved any policy details and I don't want to faff about calling Indian call centres so I am going to forget it.

The cheapest quote so far is £38 from Greenflag but does anybody know of any cheaper places? Read more

just had a look at rac cover, if you go via the quidco site the basic rac roadside cover is £34.50 less the £20 cashback from quidco- so £15 is very good value.

We own a 307 rapier diesel hdi, engine cut out & will not start, low oil pressure light came on with high emmission note message, engine turns over ok but will not start, oil level was low can any one advise as to what the problem could be

the start problem could be the low pressure pump in fuel tank gone down.
as for the oil light could be oil pressure or a dodgy sender unit.is the engine noisey?
it needs to get someone in who does diagnostic work, and can then go deeper to whats the underlying cause of the problem.
if your in london or west essex i can recomend someone,if not go on recomendations.

I had 4 new tyres fitted 2 weeks ago at an independent tyre firm in Derby. These tyres were filled with nitrogen and the fitter was told the correct pressures.
I have just checked the pressures with 2 tyre gauges. One was 6psi under inflated, one was 4psi under, one was 3psi under and believe it or not one was the correct pressure.
I wonder if Tyrexpert could tell me why fitters cannot inflate tyres to the correct pressure?

I checked the wheel nut torque as well, they didn't move at all, so I suppose they are too tight, I will have to loosen them off and re tighten. Read more

I like my tyre pressures to be set at the high-speed / max load setting (36 front / 41psi rear).

Just had the first service, thought things felt a little mushy on the drive home. Checked the pressures and they were at 32 all round ... which is 3psi BELOW the recommended pressure.

I don't trust anyone with my tyre pressures :-|

Last week I used the air conditioning for about 15-20 minutes whilst driving from town back home. The journey was about 5 miles. How much extra petrol would I have used because of using the air conditioning ? Read more

I haven't noticed any difference in mpg with/without a/c on in my '97 Escort 1.8 (same engine) - although it seems slightly more reluctant to climb hills at 50mph in 5th gear with a/c switched on. I would think the oft-quoted 3-4% figure would be about right.
