I have had 3 blown turbo chargers since Christmas. I am using a local garage who specialises in Citroen. Last time he repaired he found an oil block to the turbo charge in a banjo valve. Block was cleared and new turbo fitted. 2K miles later and the same blackage has occured.

Anybody have any ideas what may be causing this?

I have purchased brand new ?Bosch? ABS Modular Control Unit from USA and just installed it today by local Opel dealer. I discovered a problem and wonder if you could assist me to find a solution or guide me to where to go.

The original problem was that the speedometer was not working, while the RPM was working and both ABS & TC lights were on.

Now, after installing the new ABS Modular, it reversed. The speedometer is working while the RPM is registered at maximum, and TC light is still on.

Please if you have any idea or solution please advice

I have a feeling that my care is (2001 Opel Omega) while the purchased ABS Modular is for US 2001 Cadillac Catera, basically the same car, but my odometer is in Kilometer vs. millage in USA. Could this be the problem? If so, could be reprogrammable.

Many, Many, Many thanks for your efforts. Read more

O/S/R sensor failure normally causes speedo failure & TCS & ABS light to come on.
Have you had any work done on rear because if the rear sensor wires get swapped the sme fault occurs. Im with top bloke , I would be suprised if Module from USA works on this vehicle.

The Fiat (purflux) original seems as smooth as silk with a squeezable very well crafted almost sponge like ultra smooth surface multi layer fleece like element. ( I know I only squeezed the old one) and fitted a new purflux one - a while back..

But I came across this which seems to be almost like flaky substance hard bound on a bobbin with almost no give in it - no squeeze - and - well zoom in on this G600 image - look at the edges.

I see mechanical sympathy as consisting essentially in not abusing the car you are driving and being fairly prompt in diagnosing its many foibles and imperfections.

Yet there are also apparently intelligent people who imagine that the anal, obsessive habit of pressing the handbrake button when applying the brake and keeping the car externally clean and polished are evidence of 'mechanical sympathy'.

They probably think shaving keeps you healthy as well. Tchah! Read more

Double de clutching is very satisfying when you get it right but it is quite hard in modern Diesels cars and even modern petrols with their heavy flywheel effect. The pedal spacing on modern cars seems to make it hard as well. This is where I preferred the quicker response of my little Fiat with its carbs (see the carb thread)

Mechanical sympathy is not anal, it is just what it means. I still shudder at rich spoilt numpty who lives nearby who has a 911 turbo and rags it from cold. Why is it always the undeserving!!!!

Good Afternoon
I'm just budgeting for a summer visit to New England, seventeen days will cost around £450 (Hertz) , but will I be stung for additional insurance when I pick up, and if so how much to reckon on?

>In that state the rental agency cannot charge fines for exceeding 79 mph.

That decision has effectively decreed that rental companies cannot use GPS data to gouge customers in any state. A Magistrate Judge anywhere in the US, presented with that ruling, is very unlikely to find on behalf of the rental company unless the company could prove that the vehicle had suffered extra-ordinary abuse.

Note that in the original case the rental company argued that it was not a speeding fine but a charge for extra wear and tear on the vehicle. They had to do this because rental companies have no legal authority to enforce traffic violations.

>A nice list of places to be careful when passing through.

I'm afraid that the info on that site is very unreliable.

My advice is "Stick to the speed limits everywhere except interstates. On interstates go with the flow".

Quite possibly the most patronising rubbish I've heard all week:

www.autotrader.co.uk/EDITORIAL/car_page_content/51...l

Would I be correct in thinking that AutoTrader receive quite a lot of advertising revenue from franchised dealers...?

Following on from my hatred of carbs i also realised i hate asthmatic worn out engines

Worst one i remember running was a ford 1600ohv in my old escort van that was so worn out it had a lump of wood hammered into the rocker cover box to keep the fumes from entering the cab, this worked for 2 miles until i thought i had been shot ,but it was the lump of wood that had come out and hit the bonnet.
I then tried a cardboard tube down the side of the engine to allow the engine to breath but this caught fire i was on the m4 at the time i seem to remember

anyway happy days-not

Are you sure that Allaggro had 34 and not 134k

Yes, one middle-aged lady owner from new on the logbook! We bought it privately, she was only selling it because her daughter was emigrating and leaving a D reg Micra behind. Apparently she only used the Aggro to drive 5 miles to work every day...

It was completely original, never had a radio fitted and I don't think the back seats had ever been sat in! The fact that it spent half its life with the choke out could well have explained its rapid demise in my hands, that and the fact that I piled 14,000 miles on it in 8 months. ;-)

I go past her house a few times a year, the D reg Micra remained there until tinworm must have got the upper hand - its replacement is an 05 plate Micra that must have, ooh, 13k on it by now.

Recently I've carried female passengers in my car, different people on two occasions. The car is an MB W126 which most people would expect to have doors that close with a satisfying thunk, aided by a push or pull on the gentle side of firm -- and they do. Both these mature ladies slammed their door, from inside and outside, and this is consistent with my life-long experience with female passengers. I haven't yet found out why it happens every single time. Does anyone else know?

Now, where's my tin hat? Read more
