Was topping-up the anti-freeze on my car (using standard Eth. Glycol).

Tried an Anti-Freeze tester (glass tube with float) like the battery acid testers you get.

The tester has scales for Methanol & Eth. Glycol.
The Methanol scale is above the Eth. Glycol scale on the float.

Then noticed the scales go in different directions, top to bottom or bottom to top.

-Eth.Glycol scale: -12degC is above -34degC (top to bottom)
-Methanol scale: -34degC is above -12 degC (bottom to top)

Does this make sense, as would have thought the float behaviour & concentrations of chemicals would work the same way ?? Read more

Glycol is heavier/denser than water, methanol is lighter, so they swing in opposite directions, the higher the concentrations.

Hi. I repaired the deisel run off pipes a couple of weekends ago. Since then I have had difficulty starting and have to prime the fuel supply if the car has been standing for six hours or more. It starts fine when I squeeze the priming pump several times.

I am guessing that this indicates air in the supply line. However, my Haynes manual does not show my where I find the "bleeding" points. Please could someone tell me where they are (fuel pump? Fuel filter?) and what order I should bleed them in?

I would be grateful as it is a pest to lift the bonnet morning and evening to get started. Read more

thank you for replying.
I have taken the top off the fule filter and re-seated it making sure that all bolts were tighten end evenly. Checked the pipes and their connectors. Fitted new leak-off pipes. replaced the priming bulb and the piece of pipe going from there to the 90 degree pipe. On priming the system firmed quickly. Lte's hope that's done it.

Saw an advert where Saab are selling the Linear convertible for £18,995 brand new. They say this is over £7k off list price.

Some of my friends have children of varying ages from 1 to 8 years old.

Some of them do not own a car and sometimes I do carry their children in my car without any child seat (short distances within town, not on motorways)

[1] Am I breaking the law? Can I be prosecuted?
[2] What is the law exactly? I don't see any point buying child seats which I use only rarely
[3] People don't use child seats in taxis. Are they specially exempted?

If I'm breaking the law, what is the best approach for me? Polite refuse carry their children?

Any suggestions welcome.

Ask around and see if friends' children have outgrown a serviceable seat. I often see them given away on FreeCycle. I would not carry a child without one.

Last ditch attempt before i lose the plot with my 307 2l td 110hdi the very latest problem this may i add is being added to an extremly long list of problems.
Pug has now decided to just randomly cut out on me and refuse to start again it went to garage and from what they found was faulty wiring to fuel pump so no diesel was getting pumped through ?????
Plus couple of things eg new fuse.yes it started yes it ran for the total of 7 days in which it decided to randomly stop and not want to start again........luckly i just happened to of broken down outside a man who knows a bit about cars,.....this very nice man asked if i was ok and with blood pressure at max i really didnt want to state the obvious.....explained briefly what i knew about 7 days previous he did the on off on off thing etc and said it looks as if your fuel pump aint kicking in love !!!!! But told me to get paperwork so he could see what had been done as it may be linked ?????? Are there any suggestions to what the latest prob with 307 may be and to be truthfull i will expect the worst that is all it has ever been with this car .
