Hi All,
Through a friend who had a BCA account I once bought a car at an auction without attending cos it was 200 miles away. This was done by registering a max bid for the vehicle.
I got the car but I paid only £100 short of my max bid and ever since I have been suspicious. I mean it would be easy for them to work up the price a bit wouldn't it, even taking bids from an imaginary bidder to get the price and the commission up.
Or am I being paranoid?
Any thoughts or comments?
Regards.

With the government pushing manufactures to make less polluting cars, why are councils allowed to cause it by putting in speed bumps, which are reckoned to increase car pollution output by 89%? Read more
Because that wouldn't have the intended social effect. These sanctions are not really imposed on us for our own good. Power=Fear and those in power need to continually cause fear by things such as terrorism, health & safety, avian/swine flue, acid rain, speed kills, coldwar, ozone layer, carbon footprints etc... It's nothing new, and I'm sure in the future we will see hydrogen pawprints.
I have an MGB GT which is garaged and not used much. I have therefore been advised to buy and use a triple charger. Do I need to disconnect the earth as the charger will be on all the time I will not be using the car? If so this is also a pain as it is awkward to get to.
I need to use a charger as every time I want to use the car the battery is dead and have to jump start it.
I cannot get answers to this question and want to make sure I do not damage anything when using this charger. Read more
Thank you and John who also responded. The charger I bought was a Smart charger so I am now about to put it on.
I'd like to know what is the purpose of the two rivets that go through rear frame/chassis (not sure of the correct name), into the backplate when there are four hefty bolts that hold the whole assembly onto the frame anyway? Read more
3x of those bolts can be removed with a 1/2 drive ratchet & small bar and the 17mm socket, the other i use a ring spanner that is cranked at the end fits on easier just to snap it then the socket just fits on to wind it off.
The bearings can get damaged the other way ford say when disturbed to replace but they would say that!
Like nc says the adjuster are rubbish you may find a lip on the drum best to rub this flat with a buffing wheel in a drill, and manually adjust shoes.
Hi guys,
My pugeot is cutting out at low revs and engine management light is continuously ON but it starts up straight away after the cut out.
I have already replaces the Idle control valve and MAP sensor, I have also got throttle body cleaned out.
What happens is if you start the car and turn the power steering or switch the AC on without giving it gas ---> it will cut out. ---> this is making me think now that its the Alternator, am I right here??
Any advice would be appreciated.
Regards

So, as suggested earlier in the "greates" therad - how about the funniest ones?
Whilst Basil, his 1300 and the tree was funny, my favourite has to be from Mr Bean...
Anyone else remember when he was in that car park and had lost his ticket so waits for someone to drive in then guns the Mini and makes the other car reverse back so he can get out and being a three wheeler the other car topples over?! Read more
I laugh myself daft at the out-takes at the end of the Cannonball Run where Burt Reynolds keeps slapping Dom Deloise who pretends to be 'Captain America' Sadly Dom died a couple of weeks ago...funny guy !

I have the same problem, albeit on a 2000 MY. Only occasionally when braking moderately heavily from 60-70 for example to enter a dual carriageway roundabout. Sounds a bit like the ABS activating but it isn't. I have just been through an MOT ok, these cars do seem to eat discs and pads and I'm not a heavy braker (have passed an advanced test). The handbrake only just scrapped passed and they say nothing can do but change pads and discs but they are only 17k old. Had the car five years/60k all were new on purchase, have replaced fronts twice and rears once now sounds like they are shot again.
My SIII diesel has been standing for a very long time. A really long time. An excruciatingly long time. Sorry motoring Gods, I have sinned.
The battery is obviously as flat as a duck's instep.
What's the best plan to get it going again without inflicting any more pain on the poor thing?

Hi All,
I've been meaning to ask this question for a while so appologies if it its old hat or not relevant any more - its a month or so since I used the road!
The M4 pass Cardiff is 50Mph. The repeater signs are on the posts on the central reservation which implies its kind of long term. But the last few times I have used the road there has been no obvious reason why the limit is so low.
Has anyone got the answer?
Cheers.

I think they are live now as if you travel pass these at night from Coldra to the tunnels or the otherway you see a red light in the Camera and since they were errected the camera's have been aligned for their Zone's.
Also it appears, if correct, each camera only covers one lane, the outside lane is not as there are only two camera's on each gantry looking at the inside and middle lane. ????
New bridge for M4 motorway
A new bridge will be lifted into place on the M4 in Wiltshire, closing the motorway overnight on Saturday.
The bridge is being placed at South Leaze near Swindon between junctions 15 and 16. The motorway will be closed in both directions and traffic diverted.
The closure will start from 1900 BST on Saturday and the M4 is due to re-open by 1000 BST on Sunday.
Another new bridge will be installed at junction 16 between 1900 BST on 30 May and 1000 BST on 31 May.
Dave Frampton, of the Highways Agency, said: "The new bridge replaces previous structures built in the early 1970s which had reached the end of their working lives."

On that matter (though I am not sure which TV prog it was) I definitely heard the auctioneer start an auction by saying "I have .....".
If I was that bidder I would be pretty fed up because 1) It means I had lost all chance of a bargain and 2) it would mean to anyone else that they bid a £5 more and I'm gone!
I suppose the moral is turn up or put in a low bid if you are going to do it by proxy.
