sladey

Hi, my fiesta has an annoying rattle inside which seems to be coming from somewhere near the rear passenger side door or the passenger side seatbelt area. Is the rear door card easy to remove to check behind and also can the middle panel be removed where the seatbelt goes in to see behind there?

Really want to stop this rattle as the car has no other rattles etc

Thanks Read more

bell boy

doorcard is straight forward
be aware of the spring clip on the window winder (a rag is best to ping it off with)
theres also a screw hidden in the finger shut hole under a plastic cover
use a wide instrument to pop the plastic clips out of the door one at a time working from bottom to top both sides

the middle section i can only remember spring clips holding it in plus possibly the 19mm /17mm bolt on the seatbelt top nut
be aware its easy to break these clips so do the door first

Hi guys,

I'm buying a gen 7 only able to spend about 3500 so I'm limited to 2000 - 2002 reg ones. I'm extremely worried about the excessive oil consumption issue - the ones ive looked at have been from dealers and everything looks ok when I've looked at the engine/oil/dipstick. I am worried however that if I purchase one I'll have this issue later on to the point where im actually considering not buying it (which is a shame because it really is the most fun car I have ever driven sad.gif ).

Did this problem affect all pre 03 models or was is just a 'bad batch'?

Thoughts or advice when purchasing much appreciated.

Every day I see several people using a hand-held mobile whilst driving. My 15 mile route to work involves country roads, a fast dual carriageway and a short stretch of semi-rural with speed cameras, and in every section I see people blatantly using phones. Also see this on motorways.

In fact, I find myself scrutinising on-coming vehicles and anyone who overtakes me to see if they're using a phone, and that is obviously (and ironically) distracting me whilst driving! Does anyone else feel this/ I've tried to not do it but I can't help it most of the time. Read more

Hands-free or hand-held; to me it doesn't make much difference.

It's the content and purpose of the call that is the biggest distraction.

Even kitted up with bluetooth, are you likely to prioritise concentration on the road ahead (could be darkness or blinding rain) above a call that you know is coming in from the boss or a major client? Nah....

If anyone feels that their job (or for that matter their life in general) is too important to go without 24/7 connectivity, either get someone else to drive or stop occasionally and only deal with the calls that really matter then.

Daughter's fiance's GTR, which has just returned 430 bhp at the wheels on a rolling road (= 500+ at the flywheel) with standard engine internals and standard turbo, but heavily chipped and balanced, has had a noisy clutch for more than a year, during which it has been twice to the Nurburgring for a frolic. He has mentioned it to the high-tech fettlers he takes it to for tweaking, and they have at last investigated in the process of renewing the clutch, having attributed the noise to the non-standard twin-plate mechanism.

Three of the six bolts holding the flywheel to the crankshaft had sheared. The thought of the other three letting go at 7,000 rpm during a brisk gallop is an alarming one to put it mildly. He could have lost his feet as well as his beloved projectile. Phew, alhamdulillah!

He tells me that the fettlers, who at first sucked their teeth and muttered telephone numbers, concluded that they themselves had over-torqued the bolts during the last clutch replacement, so didn't charge for that part of the work. I guess they too were relieved to have got away with it.

'Motor racing is dangerous', the notices on trees and straw bales used to say. It's well worth remembering. Read more

Hi All,

Through a friend who had a BCA account I once bought a car at an auction without attending cos it was 200 miles away. This was done by registering a max bid for the vehicle.

I got the car but I paid only £100 short of my max bid and ever since I have been suspicious. I mean it would be easy for them to work up the price a bit wouldn't it, even taking bids from an imaginary bidder to get the price and the commission up.

Or am I being paranoid?

Any thoughts or comments?

Regards.

I must admit I was surprised to find that in auctions "off the wall" bids
(ie. pretending someone has bid when they haven't) is legal up to the reserve price.
I think this happened once on Homes Under The Hammer. The auctioneer was bidding up
the price the genuine bidder dropped out he was then left rather embarassingly to say
the property was unsold.

On that matter (though I am not sure which TV prog it was) I definitely heard the auctioneer start an auction by saying "I have .....".

If I was that bidder I would be pretty fed up because 1) It means I had lost all chance of a bargain and 2) it would mean to anyone else that they bid a £5 more and I'm gone!

I suppose the moral is turn up or put in a low bid if you are going to do it by proxy.

With the government pushing manufactures to make less polluting cars, why are councils allowed to cause it by putting in speed bumps, which are reckoned to increase car pollution output by 89%? Read more

Because that wouldn't have the intended social effect. These sanctions are not really imposed on us for our own good. Power=Fear and those in power need to continually cause fear by things such as terrorism, health & safety, avian/swine flue, acid rain, speed kills, coldwar, ozone layer, carbon footprints etc... It's nothing new, and I'm sure in the future we will see hydrogen pawprints.

I have an MGB GT which is garaged and not used much. I have therefore been advised to buy and use a triple charger. Do I need to disconnect the earth as the charger will be on all the time I will not be using the car? If so this is also a pain as it is awkward to get to.
I need to use a charger as every time I want to use the car the battery is dead and have to jump start it.
I cannot get answers to this question and want to make sure I do not damage anything when using this charger. Read more

Thank you and John who also responded. The charger I bought was a Smart charger so I am now about to put it on.

I'd like to know what is the purpose of the two rivets that go through rear frame/chassis (not sure of the correct name), into the backplate when there are four hefty bolts that hold the whole assembly onto the frame anyway? Read more

3x of those bolts can be removed with a 1/2 drive ratchet & small bar and the 17mm socket, the other i use a ring spanner that is cranked at the end fits on easier just to snap it then the socket just fits on to wind it off.

The bearings can get damaged the other way ford say when disturbed to replace but they would say that!

Like nc says the adjuster are rubbish you may find a lip on the drum best to rub this flat with a buffing wheel in a drill, and manually adjust shoes.

Hi guys,

My pugeot is cutting out at low revs and engine management light is continuously ON but it starts up straight away after the cut out.

I have already replaces the Idle control valve and MAP sensor, I have also got throttle body cleaned out.

What happens is if you start the car and turn the power steering or switch the AC on without giving it gas ---> it will cut out. ---> this is making me think now that its the Alternator, am I right here??

Any advice would be appreciated.

Regards

So, as suggested earlier in the "greates" therad - how about the funniest ones?

Whilst Basil, his 1300 and the tree was funny, my favourite has to be from Mr Bean...

Anyone else remember when he was in that car park and had lost his ticket so waits for someone to drive in then guns the Mini and makes the other car reverse back so he can get out and being a three wheeler the other car topples over?! Read more
