It is a slow learng curve for some. Should they even be driving? Read more
Hi All,
I am considering buying a 5 year old Merc E Class 270CDi. The Warranty Direct premium is £480 pa, but the non franchised dealer uses AutoProtect Gold which they say they they sell at cost and the premium would be half the WD price.
I appreciate that a 5 year Merc is a risk but I am trying to mitigate against the real nasties that HJ lists. Can anyone advise whether those would be covered please?
I guess I could ask the warranty companies but any opinions here would also be appreciated.
All the best.

If I could buy an E Class tomorrow I would. Fabulous car!!! Unfortunately it has to wait because of the present circumstances. In time I will get one!!
Hi there, I have a nissan sunny glx 1.6, not too sure of the year but the reg is e814 *** and i have a problem with the headlights. (That'll be 1987 to 1988 then - removed part of the reg No)
The headlight on the passenger side does not work at all even though i have changed the bulb plus when i put the headlights on full beam it sometimes doesn't work on both sides.
I took it to a garage and the guy tried another bulb plus checked the fuses and they seemed fine, he mentioned that it could be the relay not working properly.
He said i may have problems getting hold of one cuz of the cars age so may question is does it sound like the relay to you and where can i source one from?
Plus when i asked around for one do i just ask for a relay and mention the make, model etc or is there another name for the relay?
thanks,

Take it to somebody that understands how the system works. It is not a conventional set-up on these;the headlight circuit is earth switched (there is always power to 1 pin of the headlight). My advice would be to forget the relay at the moment and check fuses and switch.hth
Have chance of buying an 02 1.6 vvti (done 60K miles) Avensis at a reasonable price, and is in VGC apart from what sounds like a noisy top end rattle which is deirctly proportional to revs. It seems to be coming from the centre of the head, and I was wondering if this is where the timing chain is located, as I understanad that it is hydrualically tensioned and if it has run low on oil will need replacing. If so then this makes ther car far less attractive. Apart from this noise the car drives fine and has no obvious other problems. Any comments as to likely cause and repair cost, or is it a walk away scenario? Read more
No don't walk away thats your best bit now haggle on price get a few quotes for the job & save yourself a few quid they won't get top money for a rattler.
Has anyone else on here driven over the new speed humps in Park Road, Teddington, near the Bushy Park gate? They seem to have been designed to damage cars. Is there any way of mounting a campaign to get these removed? Read more
Do not spend any money in any area which has lots of humps, congestion charges or other anti motoring characteristics.
Quite a handsome car and evidently very nice to drive.
But I would never buy a car with one of those push-button folding roofs. Guaranteed to embarrass you one fine (or not fine) day; slow, heavy, fussy, space-hungry... ghastly things.
If I fancied a car like that - and I don't really - I would go for a canvas roof and a removable hard-top that could be taken off and left at home. Porsche cabriolets used to come with a beautifully made factory hard top like that. Read more
My boss has been for a test drive of one. The base engine, but with the auto gearbox. Really liked it to sit in, and look at but says it felt much more like a cruiser than his current car, an 07 Z4 2.5Si M-Sport. Reckons it feels more like an SLK now than a Boxster. Maybe BMW trying to attract more women buyers?
hi, I'm new to this but desperate to get to root of probs with my car. Bought it private in Jan this year, duff purchase, ok, my problem. Head gasket blew big time, fixed. Thermostat housing was corroded, fixed. Fan didn't kick in, mechanic wiped connection and it started to come on when the red light showed on dashboard, so new switch fitted to radiator. Fan seems to be working correctly but the engine overheats because coolant leaks away. Car gets hot as soon as I hit heavy traffic and coolant begins to stream away from this small tube attached just underneath the cap, completely emptys itself on my drive after journey finished. Is it the pump, or the cap not sealed correctly or should this little pipe be attached to something? Apart from that, I actually lilke the car, it turns on a sixpence, is very comfortable, not too powerful, the heater works and the boot is big enough for all my equipment. Have spent more than I can afford and am worried. Read more
thanks very much for this, Citroen service centre very expensive so last resort on work front. I think I have not done this revving thing properly so will try that and then hopefully I will have a good idea as to what I am up against.
Once again, thank you for your help.

A FERRARI driver thought he?d seen it all when he was pulled over by a high-ranking policeman ? for going too slowly!
Denis Evans, of Southerndown, was at the wheel of his wife?s £150,000 red sports car at 7.45am when he was stopped by Assistant Chief Constable Nick Croft.
Mr Evans was doing a leisurely 25mph near the Pelican pub in Ogmore-by-Sea ? a 40mph zone ? when he saw the unmarked Audi saloon behind him with flashing blue lights.

Even gives you the route to take too!
Combine it with The Highways Agency traffic report sites you can then navigate around all those nasty littel cliches and miles of roadworks.
You can search by house number, road name, city and postcode as well as just city to city.
You can also plan routes to anywhere in the world by road - who was it asking for routes to Munich recently?! Read more
What a lovely collection of pointless tools, had a good little time waste on there. Being able to calculate the area within a polygon, quite clever.

I am looking for a replacement engine for my mk4 VW Golf 1.4 16v Engine Code BCA. I cannot locate a BCA code engine but there seems to be plenty of AHW code engines around.
The engines look identical but I am reluctant to get the wrong code engine just in case it want fit.
Any VW experts confirm if this engine will fit without any problems? Read more
They've been doing this all over Essex tho' not with fluorescent jackets in our area.An unmarked policeman at the side of the road with a radio-two hundred yards up the road are the marked police doing the stops-mobile phones,no belts, kids not belted,no tax(and usually no insurance/mot) and generally unsafe vehicles.Very, very successful!!!
