This is difficult to describe.
It doesn't always do it and only does after a while, when slowing, or having slowed. I haven't detected it during braking yet but it does make the noise when not breaking. The noise is quiet and COULD be something rubbing (friction). It is a single, medium high pitched tone whine that lasts between one and several seconds and is not the powered steering as it does it whilst on a straight, I assume. It appears not to be serious, but I am curious and it is annoying. Your thoughts are appreciated. Read more

Whenever I get one of these over-rated tin boxes as a hire car I know it won't do more than 35 mpg or the metric equivalent... The latest 1.33 6 speed variants seem to be even thirstier than the old ones despite the official figures suggesting an improvement.
This evening whilst waiting to start my voluntary work, I was sat in the car listening to some music as I had arrived a little early.
Parked up behind a "Ford Wildtrack" I've never seen one of these before, right hand drive with private plates on.
I'm very sure that when it pulled off and got to the bottom of the street there was no middle "high visibility" brake light
I thought it was EU regs that all cars sold in Europe after 1998 had to have one
The car looked modern so I'm guessing it was made in the last 10 years
Don't get me wrong I don't go round checking I just happened to notice as I was admiring it as it drove off Read more
Sorry redviper, sometimes pedantry gets the better of me;)
If you back off the throttle and then go back on the car is very jerky. It will also occasionally be hesitant when accelerating. It has had new plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm; the leads are about 3 years old. It feels more like a fuelling/metering fault. Any ideas? Read more

I cannot beleve how thick these people are. I am not a fan of these cars in the cities, they are too big and they cause a safey to threat but environmentaly I am not sure they are anyway worse than any other car in real terms.
All this brain dead idiot has done is cause more C02 as these people now may need new tyres.
I wish these people would get their facts straight. If they want to pick on people then target 2CV drivers with their smokey 2 pot engines.

''brake master cylinder''
Not as bad as made out really. I've changed a couple, just put the bolts back in the other way and it's pretty easy. Odd place to put it in the first place though.
For anyone who followed the recent misfuelled diesel Focus or even the 'which Avensis' sagas:
We finally bought a very nice, totally unmarked 42K FSH 05 Focus 1.6 LX (115bhp petrol with a/c) privately this evening.
Everything was right, owner had car for last 4 years, bought locally from new, nice couple, nice house, new company Focus on the drive, every instinct screaming 'it's legit!' Ummed and ahh'ed for no longer than 15 seconds before settling on a price and shaking on it. All in all a very pleasant end to the saga.
also got it for significantly less than equivilant motors on dealer forecourts...which is nice!
Thanks again chaps for all the advice throught.

I am a chartered surveyor doing mainly commercial property valuations. You would not believe the number of people I meet who try it on. You can tell almost from the first phone call, whether the deal is legit or there is something dodgy. Its the tone of voice and style of speaking "...Yeah mate what can i do for you..." I'm not your mate! Its the story behind the deal and the number of people you have to speak to, to get the keys etc.
If it feels right and looks right then it usually is right. But with the slightest doubt, the first thing I do is look for my downvaluing tables and treat the property with the caution it deserves.

In the past I have found on their displays non motorway roads lined with red
or orange warning of delays which was most useful in selecting alternative routes.
My satnav does that, and plans the alternative.
Hey Guys, the other day I unlocked the car with the remote key, started and drove off, a few mins down the road the alarm went off, did not affect anything (just my ears) so I stopped the car, got out locked it, then unlocked it, fine alarm went off, drove down the road, off it went again, this time i drove it miles with the beeping alarm, got home ponced about with the key remote, even had the key in the door lock, I do manage to turn it off, but not sure how, any way, the blinkin thing keeps going off, even when its unlocked, Ive now disconnected the sounder, any Ideas? Reading the motoring press, they indicated back in January that the new model Mazda 3 was due this Spring, but have seen no fresh updates lately.
As I am interested in purchasing this new model, can anyone advise the date of this new launch?? Read more
Was getting my MX5 serviced yesterday at Border Cars Mazda in Dumfries. 1 new Mazda 3 in the showroom and 1 demo on the forecourt. If it's in Dumfries it'll be in most places.
Dumfries is NOT the centre of all things automotive retail.

Have you resolved this issue. Regards Peter
