Out of true discs I think would be the most likely problem.

A sticking caliper or warped disc due to heavy braking.!

Try swopping the front tyres to the rear to eliminate the possibility of a tyre going out of shape when braking.

New discs will cure it all right, and they aren't expensive. Of course you have to fit new pads at the same time.

Front brakes can feel rougher (and noisier under heavy braking) when the pads are getting very thin too. Braking performance also falls off, and the risk of piston seizure increases. If you change both pads and discs the brakes will be much improved.

I have the same problem, albeit on a 2000 MY. Only occasionally when braking moderately heavily from 60-70 for example to enter a dual carriageway roundabout. Sounds a bit like the ABS activating but it isn't. I have just been through an MOT ok, these cars do seem to eat discs and pads and I'm not a heavy braker (have passed an advanced test). The handbrake only just scrapped passed and they say nothing can do but change pads and discs but they are only 17k old. Had the car five years/60k all were new on purchase, have replaced fronts twice and rears once now sounds like they are shot again.
