02 1.6 1.6 vvti noisy top end ....timing chain? - bk.bas
Have chance of buying an 02 1.6 vvti (done 60K miles) Avensis at a reasonable price, and is in VGC apart from what sounds like a noisy top end rattle which is deirctly proportional to revs. It seems to be coming from the centre of the head, and I was wondering if this is where the timing chain is located, as I understanad that it is hydrualically tensioned and if it has run low on oil will need replacing. If so then this makes ther car far less attractive. Apart from this noise the car drives fine and has no obvious other problems. Any comments as to likely cause and repair cost, or is it a walk away scenario?

No don't walk away thats your best bit now haggle on price get a few quotes for the job & save yourself a few quid they won't get top money for a rattler.
