I have found that the green hydraulic fluid is oozing from a small pin hole just before the union the goes into the rear O/s caliper, will this fluid only come out when the brakes are applied or will it flow when the system starts up and pumps up the presseure??

If the pipe has to be replaced then crush it with a pair of Mole-grips and leave then on the pipe, or the fluid will slowly drain out. Regards Peter
If you could put together a fantasy group to save ailing Europe-based manufacturers, what would you create?
Mine would be to merge Peugeot Group and Fiat Auto and then venture to the US to acquire Chrysler.
I'd run it along the lines of VW Group - with common platforms and technical components but different bodywork. The mass market brands would be Peugeot, Fiat and Chrysler, with Alfa Romeo pitched to rival Audi, while Jeep would compete with Land Rover. Citroen would become the group's electric vehicles brand. You can have a stripe round your bucket . It would be the XR bucket.
It must be nearly twenty years ago that we hired a car from a little company operating from a small shop front in Majorca. The things was - there was something familiar about it and a few hours into the first day It came back as a flash back to a program seen on TV a year or two earlier.
It was actually the front of our hotel and parking the car that triggered this off - because there had been a shot of a man running in out of the darkness, kicking the cars door in and then running off.
It had been a scam that more than a few people had been caught in and it turned out the BIL of the car hire proprietor used to kick the doors of the hire cars in and then the hirer was brought before the local Court a few days later to a massive claim for damages.
Some people managed to cancel their holiday and fly out before the court date - but in the end it was all caught on camera and put on UK TV. (anyone remember)
Anyway, regarding our hire of the car and remembering all of this. We took to hiding the car at night in the car park of a hotel half a mile away and only presented it back to them as the very hour the contract expired - which was 9.00AM the day of departure.

Maybe ten or so years ago a dodgy neighbour had a white Transit van.
One day a hire van appeared in his driveway.
Couple of days his white van suddenly had various blue parts, wings, bonnet, doors etc
Van then disappeared for a few days and returned painted Burgundy
A week later it got a personal plate to finish the transformation..

When I was in Ireland a couple of years ago I seem to remember most
of the Corsas Astras and Vectras were Opels not Vauxhalls.
Northern Ireland, or the Republic of?
The Republic of yes they buy Opels , Northern Ireland as its part of the United Kindom there primary GM Brand Will be Vauxhall but i guess that a fair few Opels will filter across the Border.
If Ellesmere Port has to go, it will shame as it has (according to the Article) a contract for the new Astra until 2015, by then the Economic situation may have changed. AND (also according to the Article) its one of GM's most effcient plants so it does not make sense to get rid off it.
Agreed with a another comment on here, that the finger of blame lies soley with GM America, and its very unfortunate that Vauxhall and Indeed Opel should be caught up with this.
There are lots of rumors going round on the GM inside news forums, and interstingly the consesus is (from the majority of the American Public on there) that GM should hold onto Vauxhall and Elesemere port, as one of its largest selling brands would make more sense.
Hi, I'm new to the forum, thought I knew BMW's, but this fault has me stumped!
The battery went flat due to a charging problem, now repaired, but when I restarted it the odometer reads 999,999! I don't know whether this is a new fault, or whether it needs to have it's fault codes read by a specialist.. the true mileage is 111K.
Anyone else heard of or experienced a similar problem? Read more
You are a star! It worked a treat, mileage now back to normal, many thanks, dg
Advice needed I just returned from holiday where I hired and paid £130 for a hire car in advance. The booking was made through a company called { SNIP - the name is irrelevant to your question}. I flew into Marseille and collected the hire car.
They asked if I wanted to pay more money for an insurance damage waiver excess. I said no I didn't need it and the girl said she would have to pre-authorise my Visa card with £800 accident damage excess. I agreed to this and was delighted when she gave me the keys to a new Fiat 500.
I checked the car over for damage and left Marseille to drive to Barcelona for a few days holiday. 20 miles from my hotel in Barcelona the fuel light came on so I left the main road and found a petrol station in a rather seedy looking industrial area.
I filled the Fiat up with 'Sin Plomo 95', paid for the fuel then drove off the forecourt and got 200 yards up the road before the engine started making loud knocking noises and lost power. I then realised that there was a small sticker on the fuel flap saying Diesel Only.
I was quite surprised as the hire car company did not say the car was a diesel, and the car was quiet with great performance so I did not think I was driving a diesel. I called their breakdown Assistance which was in France, and they were quite surprised that I had driven to Barcelona. They said that they would have someone call me from snip Assistance in Spain.
20 minutes later someone from snip Assistance Spain called and said they would send a mechanic. 2 hours later a guy showed up with a tow truck and started loading the Fiat onto the back. The towtruck driver did not speak any English, and I do not speak Spanish so I called the breakdown Assistance and asked what was going on. They said to clear my belongings out of the car and they would send a taxi to take me to the hire car company office in Barcelona. The tow truck driver took the Fiat away.
After waiting another 2 hours by the side of the road with my bags in this seedy industrial area while it was getting dark. I started getting concerned for my safety and called the breakdown assistance again to ask what was going on. They said they had no record of a taxi coming to pick me up and asked me whether I received the fax from the breakdown assistance authorising the tow truck driver to take the car away.
I started yelling down the phone and was promptly hung up on. Moments later a taxi appeared and drove me to their office in Barcelona. The guy at the desk did not know who I was, and asked where the Fiat was. I explained that a tow truck driver had taken it away and he asked where the documentation was that the tow truck driver had given me. I explained that I had been given nothing.
He tapped around on his computer for a few minutes then said that he had a French registered car that I could drive back to Marseille, but it was not available until the following day. He gave me a Spanish registered VW Polo and said he would call me the next day so I could change cars again. I got to my hotel 6 hours after my intended arrival.
The following day there was another 2 hours spent taking the Polo back to the hire car company in Barcelona, where they replaced it with a Swiss registered VW Polo and were very careful to tell me that the car was a diesel. I drove the car back to Marseille and decided to fill it up before I returned it to their office. I double checked the fuel and discovered that the Polo was in fact a petrol engined car.
I returned the car and the the hire car company and the girl asked how things had gone, when I said not well she shrugged took the keys from me and said goodbye. I decided that I would not bother using this hire car company again and left.
I opened my email today to discover I have been sent an invoice for the hire of a VW Polo with a charge of £300 which has been collected from my Visa card. What should I do? Am I at fault? Should the hire car company share any responsibility for ruining my holiday? Who do I talk to? the hire car company in France? the hire car company in Spain? their breakdown Assistance? The travel company? or my Visa card provider/bank?

Have they refunded the original damage excess? If so, can they really deduct more money without informing you that investigations/repairs are taking place and your liable in the future?
Can anyone offer some advice please on an impending purchase of a MX5 ?
Car is a 2000 UK model apparently, however its registration is non standard in the form of -
'PIL ****' - * are numbers.
Just concerned that this may be an import in disguise ?
Checked on the DVLA website with the reg which confirms the car and the details shown by the seller. Car has full uk service history and was PDI'd in the UK. All MOTs present also and V5 seemingly correct.
Can anyone help to ease my paranoia ?
Thanks,

Just an update.
Car purchase has gone through without any problems.
Am now the owner of a 9 year old (UK :-) ) MX5 with only 30k miles.
Mechanically in excellent condition with only a few minor cosmetic issues to sort.
VIN, V5, and engine/chassis plates all check out and confirmed online.
Very pleased and a bargain to boot.
Thanks for the help everyone.

Why are some, so trusting, even gullible of others, when it comes to believing advertisements that involves paying someone else upfront to do something for you?
Pay someone for a service before you receive it?
I don't think so, Well, not here anyway! Read more

The best fun you can have( if involved in something else mundane) is to let them go thro all the spiel and keep asking facile questions. The more time that you can occupy them for, the less time they have to irritate other people. Sitting in the bathroom with the cordless can alleviate boredom.
Works well with any direct sales cold calling people. However be prepared for a couple of follow up silent calls, or an earful of abuse when they final figure what is going on!

Brother has full NCB on his motor insurance. He sold his car and cancelled his motor insurance over a year ago and now has a company car and is a named driver on a fleet insurance. He does not have his own motor insurance. He made a claim a year ago on the fleet insurance when involved in a hit and run. He is planning to buy a small car privately. Does he have to tell the insurance company about the claim he made on a fleet insurance policy? Will it affect his NCB? He rang up the fleet insurance to ask if it affects his "personal" NCB on his personal insurance, they said it has nothing to do with it and should not affect it. He felt that the guy who gave him the advice was uncertain and was just guessing.
Thinking about it what happens if you hire a car and have to make a claim. Do you inform your insurance that you made a claim on a hire car insurance policy?
Hope the above makes sense. Read more
NCB and claims history are completely separate things. He will still need to declare the accident/claim he had on the fleet insurance, as the proposal form will ask him to list any accidents or claims on "any motor vehicle" in the last x (usually 5) years. This is a separate question to how many years NCB he is entitled to, and the answer will affect his premium.
If he doesn't answer the claim question truthfully, and details of the claim should become available to the insurer at a later date, it is likely to seriously jeopardise his cover.
