The speedo & odometer on this vehicle work only for a short while after driving off and then stop until the next cold-start is made.
Any suggestions please. Read more

Anyone had good/bad experience of Nationwide Autocentres?

Need a full service and first Mot on my diesel. Dealer charged me £400 last year for what's little more than an oil change and giving the tyres a kick so won't be using them again. With Nationwide they quote £235 on their website for service + MoT and I see I could use Tesco points on a 4 to 1 basis - so assume would cost just £60 worth of points.

I've seen a lot of negative comments about them on review sites. Could they seriously muck it up? Should I give them a whirl or find a decent independent and save my points for something else? Would do it myself but need a stamp for the extended warranty.

If it's the cars 1st MOT and the car is still under guarantee, I would get a main dealer to do the service - any problems fixed under the guarantee

I noticed this morning that my car had a small puddle underneath at the rear on the drivers side. The car was parked facing up a hill, so it had run slightly. The car has been moved about a bit since then, and each time, there's been a few drops of diesel underneath, but not much. I have seen one older post suggesting that filling the car up fully with fuel can cause this to happen a little and I did fill the tank up to maximum yesterday - is this a likely cause? And if not, does anyone have any other suggestions please? Read more

On an advanced type RoSPA course I was told to start with clutch depressed. Nothing to do with wear and tear. It was in case the gearbox stuck in gear. Also taught/told to move gearstick left/right in a manual.

Still do both to this date. Well over ten years ago now.

This thread was inspired by the new Passat.

I've seen three or four, and I just rather like the look of it.

I wonder if there are other cars, or parts of cars, that backroomers think look really well?

Let's try to stick to fairly mainstream stuff, the sort of car the rest of us might see on the way to work.

Perhaps it's just a certain detail, or angle of view, that makes you look twice.

Another example for me is the Mazda 6, but only in a metallic colour I would call lilac.

Seen two or three of those and I've stopped each time to admire.

My last contribution in this post is the more expensive versions of the Mondeo estate.

There was one in the showroom when I bought the CC3 and it really looked the part.

I know it's only a shoebox on wheels, but that car looked like it was moving even though it was standing still. Read more

Hi all

Just bought a 1999 T xsara HDI 90hp BOSCH SYSTEM with 78k.

All seems well until it cut out while driving at 70mph, and then again and again and again. Even at idle it cuts out, but only seem to do it when warm.

The idle is a bit loud, every stroke is loud diesel ticking, my dad's 406 hdi 90hp is quieter.

Also the idle varies by 20-30rpm all the time.

No weird smoke, goes fine.

I checked the codes,

p00c8 unknown
p0380 glow plug circuit

these two re-occur after clearing.

Any ideas????

Hello,
My wife has an 06 Mini One.
The manufacturer's warranty runs out soon.
We can extend it another year for about £400.
Do you think it is worth paying this?
So far we have had no problems with it.
It has done a tiny mileage of about 12,000.

Thanks for your thoughts.

The extended warranty is like a sieve there are more get out clauses and ifs and maybes not worth the paper there printed on.

Hi,
My wife had an accident on the M1 where a Belgian lorry driver pulled out and clunked the entire passenger side. She was due to give birth three days later (and did) but she was so shaken at the accident she called the police who took all the insurance details and reg number of the lorry.

After one year my insurance company are now refusing to pay back my excess of £300 becuase they say the reg number taken by the police is incorrect and they can't trace the driver by name. I suppose it could be false plate or typo by plod.

I've put in a complaint to the financia obudsman about the delay but I'm so angry that afer a whole year of non-communcation from my insurance company they made one call to say sorry can't trace driver!!

Any ideas anyone how I can get my £300 back - I can't afford to lose this money!

Thanks! Read more

It is possible to trace most people, firms, things with today's technology and Google and a bit of persistence. I have done it, but one HUGE barrier, in the wonderful UK at least, is that monster called the Data Protection Act.
