Totalled a rear door on the jalopy. Assume if we claim on the insurance - our fault entirely, no-one else involved - we'll pay for it at renewal, so paying ourselves.
What sort of price, would you say?

Hi,
I recently bought a 1998 ka3. Only done 35k one prev owner and has every piece of service/repair history you could think of.
However, in the week i have had it its as stalled when the clutch is depressed 3 times when either stationary or changing down a gear. Having done some reading on here and other forums a common theory is the Idle control valve. I took the car back to the dealer i bought if from today, they road had it on a rolling road, ran all kinds of tests but couldnt find anything wrong. They did clean the ICV but i did this last week and it hasnt fixed the problem.
I have read that there was TSB issued for the early ka's, i havent been able to find a copy online i beleive its TSB 095/200.
Does anyone know how i could get a copy of this or get something i can take with me to the dealers if this happens again. I have got 6 months warranty on the car, problem is it came from a nissan dealership not ford so they are not familiar with the ford engine.
any help advice if much appreciated Read more
Here is an easy to do job that may do the trick. At the end of the Icv where the 2 pin connector is located , is some white silicone compound.Cut it away to reveal a large crosshead screw.adjust it either c/wise or anti c/wise about 1/4 turn at a time ,drive the car and see if there is any improvement. If it is worse, then the adjustment needs to go the other way.Worth a try.hth
I don't think we've done this one recently, so here goes.
Why oh why do people feel the need to put two wheels up on the pavement when parking on a road which is obviously wide enough for them not to? Seems to be mainly younger drivers, but not exclusively. I'd guess it's mainly visitors to the parade of shops, but not exclusively.
We're talking here about a residential road, the one I live in. It's not really bothered me until the last week or so when I've been walking to the newsagent for the paper (now that I'm unemployed!!). It's a wide pavement and they take over half of it.
I'm not going to bother citing the prams, pushchairs, wheelchairs arguments - it's hard enough just to walk past.
Anyway, I have a cunning method of dealing with it. I cross over. :-) Does anyone have any better ideas (not including keying cars, breaking wing mirrors etc)

The simple answer is that more people have cars than the roads were ever designed for.
If you really want to see on-street parking at its worst, take a trip to Wales and go up the valleys. Garages are virtually non-existent, and owing to the topography of the area there is little scope for off-road parking. Add to this that most of the houses are narrow terraces, and you get a situation where (especially on Fridays) it's an absolute nightmare. I deliver to pet shops in Treorchy and Porth on a Friday and I have to allow at least an extra hour if those two drops are on my lorry. Give me the mountain roads any day, far less traffic!
Having tried out a couple of group 1 (9kg-18kg) infant car seats at my local Halfords I was advised there arn't any which safely fit the rear of my Peugeot 306 (1999). Apparently it's the seat belt buckle which could potentially 'pop out' in an accident. The chap was very helpful and called Britax for advise, however (contrary to Britax online 'fit finder' which recommends their First Class Plus model) their customer service centre could not recommend a suitable seat. We tried a 'Maxi Cosi' seat but it did the same thing.
I need help - my daughter is outgrowing her current seat and, apart from buying a new car, I need to find a seat which fits safely using a seat belt system. Is there a seat out there...? Read more
I had the same problem a few years ago with a Primera - shape of the rear seats meant almost every seat tried led to "buckle crunch". In the end Mothercare fitted a seat which overcame the problem due to different fixings on the seat - I think it was a Britax, but can't remember which one I'm afraid.
I can recommend a visit to Mothercare though - I've always found their staff to be very good with selecting and fitting car seats.

How many LHD Moggie Minors were made?
Hi I have a great 900 soft top however just as its getting sunny the roof isnt working, Ive just had a Auto electric man out to look at it and he works more with BMWs so not expert on SAABs. He said its best to start with a reset on the hood as we already know theres power to the switch. However as he doesnt work with these cars often he doesnt know how to reset it, He is looking into this for me but i thought id try and show off abit and find out the details for him myself. So can anyone help me
Many thanks Mike Read more
Just partially rebuilt the bike, unused for a year, but prior to that used to tour the continent. Started up OK and today used to go to the MOT station where it failed for loose handgrip only. On way back after ~10 miles, with water temp at 80C and no problems it suddenly died.
Fault traced to fuel pump relay not functioning. It works if we earth the yellow & brown cable which goes from connection 85 of the relay to connection 7 of the ignition control unit.
Manual suggests "fuel supply will be shut off" if there is a high water temp, or other fault which turns off ignition, but I assumed this would mean isolation of the injectors usually. Certainly the injectors will be turned off on overrun until the revs drop to 2000, but not the fuel pump?
Ideas before we try bypassing the ignition unit?
Pig to work on, as access to the relays means tank removal etc

Glad to see a K100 still on the road - I did like the design, but like the Porshe 911 series, the boxer twin just had to come back - just too much of a classic I suppose.
Finding a poor connection can be very difficult - I hope you resolve it.
This has to be the quietest bike caff I've ever been in ! Especially if the weather's wet.
When an advert for a business lease reads as this : 3+35 payments of £200
... i gather that the ' 3' months is a downpayment but is that a deposit you get back?
or is it basically 38 payments over 3 years?
thanks Read more
No, its just an upfront payment - you wont see it again.
Worth remembering that many quotes are ex VAT so you need to check on that to.
hi room, i was a having a flashback earlier whilst watching the "champions" on itv 4, i remember as a kid we used to get petrol adverts on the telly, tiger in your tank, and shell "you will, go well with shell shell shell , i used to have a collection of football "coins" from the 1970 world cup ...question is , why dont the petrol companies advertise on the telly any more? Ham,
Looked quite up to date. The 80s definiately looked different to that. Elaborate?
Went out motoring today - A speed hump jangled the springs - then a rash of cameras pointed at my number plate. Later I had the thought that because I had driven over a canal bridge - I would be on a data-base that grouped my number plate with canal barges including those big ones going up the Rhine.
A few days later a discount voucher for `Cod & chips` came through the door
What should I do? Read more
Road humping is a serious sexual offence and not only should you be prosecuted and jailed but also you should feel the wrath of the piece of cod that passeth all understanding.

...It took me less than 10 minutes to fit it...
Hats off to the oily one.
I say this having struggled with spacers, restraining strap pins, central locking/leccy window wiring, all while supporting said door on a trolley jack.
