Spot the glaring factual error in paragraph 1. I stopped reading after that.

well im sure i saw a new vauxhall on the road yesterday

Oh dear! Well they are the most successful car manufacturer here with British roots. Vauxhall seems to have regained it's "Britishness" with the Government and some of the public in it's darkest hour, as opposed to "they're just rebadged Opels."

What is the glaring factual error? That Vauxhalls are sold in the US?

Vauxhall was indeed acquired by General Motors in 1925, so that can't b the factual error.
Vauxhall piece in Telegraph - TheOilBurner
Isn't the error that the article refers to the Vauxhall BRAND being sold outside of the UK? AFAIK, some cars built at Ellesmere Port are LHD and do get exported, but not with a Vauxhall badge on the front.

Other than that, the piece seems reasonable enough.

Yes to me that seems like the only "error" is that it seems to say that the "brand" is sold outside the UK.

The Vauxhall brand actually sells more than the Opel Brand, if one has to go it will be interesting to see what will happen

When I was in Ireland a couple of years ago I seem to remember most of the Corsas, Astras and Vectras were Opels, not Vauxhalls.

Northern Ireland, or the Republic of?

The Republic of yes they buy Opels , Northern Ireland as its part of the United Kindom there primary GM Brand Will be Vauxhall but i guess that a fair few Opels will filter across the Border.

If Ellesmere Port has to go, it will shame as it has (according to the Article) a contract for the new Astra until 2015, by then the Economic situation may have changed. AND (also according to the Article) its one of GM's most effcient plants so it does not make sense to get rid off it.

Agreed with a another comment on here, that the finger of blame lies soley with GM America, and its very unfortunate that Vauxhall and Indeed Opel should be caught up with this.

There are lots of rumors going round on the GM inside news forums, and interstingly the consesus is (from the majority of the American Public on there) that GM should hold onto Vauxhall and Elesemere port, as one of its largest selling brands would make more sense.

It's lazy reporting.

The British built Astra is sold across the world, including the US, however it is sold as an Opel or Saturn and not a Vauxhall. To the best of my knowledge the Astra is not sold in China. Import tarifs there make it economically unviable to import anything but top end cars.

The brand "Vauxhall" is unknown outside the UK.

I see we now have ' Vauxhall has just days to live " style headlines appearing.
The car industry has spent the last year crying wolf. Every few days we read of one company or another claiming they could fold any day now yet non have.

For some the act has worked and govt's have splashed a bit of cash their way, others have saved a bundle by laying staff off .

Vauxhall is yet another car company making thousands of vehicles a year to leaving standing in fields .

I can understand the union's resentment that the government hands out £500 billion to incompetent, complacent and greedy banks, but baulks at £750 million to save thousands of skilled manufacturing jobs in areas of otherwise high unemployment and social problems. If Ellesmere Port closed, it would be disaster for the local area.

It's all too easy to sit here and slate the industry, when it's not your livelihood at stake.

Also, Vauxhall/Opel is not a basket care like Rover was. The cars are up-to-date and sell well, it's GM USA that the finger of blame should be pointed at.

Now GM Europe is being spun off and sold up, we should do what we can to support Vauxhall/Opel in any way we can. I think we'll regret it in the long run if we don't.
