Hi there all.
Has anyone come across the problem of revs staying high when pulling up at the lights, I find that recently my revs stay up at about 1500 to 2000 and only settle down after about 10 seconds when pulling up at the lights or any junction.

In an article in the Times this morning we learn that alcohol-related deaths in Britain have more than doubled, from fewer than 4,000 a year to more than 8,700.
We also learn that Gordon Brown is ?lukewarm? on proposals to introduce a minimum pricing strategy to curb alcohol, even though he knows, because the Chief Medical Officer has told him, that the statistics show overwhelmingly that putting up prices would dramatically cut the number of alcohol-related deaths.
We know also that the government is considering cutting the speed limit on thousands of rural roads to 50mph because research has shown that the change would save up to 250 lives a year.
Funny old world.

My 806 will cut out but not all the time you can go drive it for miles on the motorway at 80+ with no problems, but then as soon as you put your foot down flat to the floor through the gears or need more power to turn up a hill it will cut out if you then turn off ignition and start it again it works fine like nothing happened you can even put your foot down and it wont cut out again, it seem very random. but if you then park up over night or leave for a period of time it go's through the same process again
The engine managment light do come on but after about 4 starts it go's out, the car was going into limp mode before (which is now ok) and i have spent loads on garage bills and parts its had
Tank fuel pump
fuel fillter housing
cam and crank sensors
airflow meter
air fillter
breathers cleaned
this is a new problem and i cant afford to take it back to garage , would this be a problem with the fuel pressure switch or the connector ?

The economic downturn is turning some ordinary motorists into mechanics with one garage in Norfolk actively encouraging people to service their own cars.
Mark Worthington reports from Watton near Thetford.
Sounds like a great idea to me, probably a health and safety risk assessment nightmare! Read more

Lack of power. This car has been code read with genuine tech 2 at Vauxhall
Codes brought up
P1222 Pump Malfunction Injection
P0600 Swirl Level Control 3.9%
P0380 Glow Plug Voltage Low
Eng Speed Idling 413-425
P0400
P0243
P0110
P0105
P0100
P01105
These codes were erased and car taken for a short drive, brought back to workshop and code reader was placed back on vehicle. Code P0400 reappeared. I've checked EGR valve after removing cover from EGR valve, push on fit. You can visibly see valve working. On doing some checks our self we can see the inlet manifold switch over control. Valve not working owing to return earth wire to ECU not switching all vacuum tests on vehicle or engine management light on vehicle. Ignition on mil light on but goes out on start up
Any feed back greatly accepted

Paul

Hi,
Hoping you may be able to help me.
What are the early signs that a clutch is on its way out?
My 03 plate Ford Focus 1.8 Tdci estate's clutch feels 'weird' occasionally - slightly stiffer and 'higher' when pulling away in first. It's better when the car warms up and is not noticable once out of first....any ideas?
The car has just done 75,000 miles and has been a complete lemon since I bought it two and a half years ago, so I'm expecting the worst ;-)
Many thanks in advance Read more
I recently got a new Rio 1.5l Turbo diesel and was wondering if this was a 'normal' part of everything bedding in.
When climbing any steep-ish hills on the motorway I get a hot metallic smell coming into the car.
The smell would appear be stronger if the engine has to work harder (say puting my foot down when going uphill to maintain 70mph).
upon further investigation, I stopped and checked where in the engine bay this smell was coming from and its definitely the turbo unit.
The turbo unit is on the far side of the engine not far from where the air intakes are for the internal passenger compartment (air for hot / cold and aircon).
Since :-
1. its my first diesel engined car
and
2. its my first turbo car
Is this normal or am I being stupid ? Read more
Just make sure you pull out the dipstick regularly...
Hi,
I have just bought a 1999 Vectra 1.8 T reg. There is a strange humming like noise when I am not accelerating.
When I accelerate then take my foot off the pedal, the noise will start. It stays on until I am either idling for around 5 seconds or I start accelerating again. The noise is also there when I first start the car until it is idling for a while.
There is also a buzzing noise when I open the drivers door like the lights are still on but they are definately not on!
Any ideas? Read more
I have been told that the noise may be coming from the gearbox. Is there a way to check the gearbox oil level?
Dear all
I apologise for what must seem a ridiculously easy question for you guys so answers very much appreciated. I left my lights on (over a number of days) and consequently now have a flat battery. Would like to remove said battery to charge it but cannot for the life of me get the damn thing out!! I've disconnected the terminals and removed the strap (technically I cut through the thing) but it still won't budge! There is a bolt and bracket (attached to the belt) on the left hand side of the battery attached to the plate that it's sitting on. The battery seems to be independent from this bracket but I could be wrong! In short, I can't see anything attaching the battery to the plate.
I'm certainly no mechanic but like to think of myself as a relatively intelligent, practically minded guy. A simple task that I was expecting to complete in about 10mins is proving beyond me!
If anyone is out there and can let me know what I'm doing wrong I'd be most grateful. There seems to be more to this battery changing than meets the eye!
Many thanks in anticipation
Stu

Be worth charging it in situ otherwise. Might be you may have killed it outright though.

yeah it was, although technically it's still true lol.
