Hi,
The dealer who I have bought a new CRV off is ringing me tomorrow to give me the registration number of the CRV.
She has told me I need to insure the car before they can deliver it to me which, as I have not ordered a new car since the 90s, I find a bit strange.
For example, what happens if the car arrives and it has scratches, is damaged in some way, etc, and I decided there and then to reject it and not pay for it? I thought, as the acr would be delivered to my driveway, that I could insure it after it has arrived, I have given it the OK and accepted it.
I am not sure why I have to insure it prior to even seeing it or is this normal nowadays? Btw, the Honda sales blurb says they cover you with 7 days insurance when you buy a new car so I am doubly confused about the need to insure it beforehand?
Also, can anyone point me to a good resource - is there one here on HJ - about how to check over a new car before accepting it?
Thanks,
T. Read more
Play safe and insure it from the beginning of the day it's registered to you. The registration date and insurance date then coincide. I've always found that insurance commences nominally at midnight, but it's usually stated as commencing at 00:01 hours.
My KA lost power a few weeks ago and started running on 2 cylinders. Had the usual spark plug problem (now resolved) and have changed the spark plugs, leads and coil pack but I am still getting a poor spark on 1 and 4 whilst 2 and 3 are fine - which seems to imply the coil pack but I have changed that again to another brand new one and I still get the same problem.
Can't find any wiring issues so my final guess is that the ECU is somehow causing this problem - but wouldn't that mean no spark rather than a weak spark?
Any advice / ideas welcome!!! Read more
I suppose you could send the ECU off to someone like ECU Doctor or BBA if you can live without the car for a week or so. They should be able to test the ECU quite cheaply and repair if necessary.
Went to Costco yesterday to see if I could get a couple of new front tyres for SWMBOs CRV. Yes, they can supply Michelins, but said they would only sell me a set of four, as I had mentioned I had Bridgestones on all four wheels at the moment. (They had the Michelins in stock so it wouldn't have been a special order).
Couldn't understand the logic. Read more
A CRV would typically be in 2wd 90% of the time so I cant see the problem with replacing only 2 tyres.
Once my vauxhall signum 2.2DTi, diesel, automatic, sept 2003 has warmed up, anything more than very gentle accelaration causes "spanner" to appear & car to go into limp home mode. Switching off ignition & restarting clears spanner & limp home until it repeats.
Fault Codes:
P0638 Throttle Actuator Control Range/Performance (Bank 1)
&
P0234Turbo/Super Charger Overboost condition
get stored as pending in ECU.
What is the most likely cause or what should I check next?

Hi
I had the same problem and it turned out to be a split in the vaccum hose, mine was located at the front of the engine bay on the right hand side. I think there are two or three pipes and the tech had to replace a small piece of rubber tubing about 1.5 inches long. This did the trick for me.
I rang up a local Ford dealer to ask them if it really is necessary to check/adjust the valve clearances on the zetec petrol engine and they said it was not imperative unless the engine had other problems. In the Ford service guide it says check/adjust every 100 000miles or 10 years whichever occurs first. In the Hayne's manual it says every 100 000miles but doesn't mention any time interval. What would you do ? Read more
If it worries you that much, get it checked and spend £130. Maybe the dealer can diagnose the stain on your cover that you recently asked about, whether it is rain or oil
The warning light (the red light showing the exclamation mark in a circle that comes on when the handbrake is on) flickers on and off - and I don't think the handbrake is on, I've checked! It only seems to come on at low speeds, mainly when the weight of the vehicle comes over the front end of the car. My guess is that it has something to do with the suspension although I know pretty much zilch about all things motorised. I do remember a couple of years ago my mechanic mentioned something about the suspension brushes (whatever they are) needing replacing in a couple of years so I would think that has something to do with it. My question is; does anyone know what might be wrong and (most importantly) could it be dangerous? I'm not looking to put any more serious cash into this car and if it is dangerous and/or expensive, I'll cut my losses and get something newer. Any guesses or help would be appreciated. Cheers. its not the brake pads there is a different light to warn you of them it looks like (o) and its amber but most 306's didnt have this fitted... the problem is almost cirtainly low brake fluid, start by topping it up it may well clear the problem never to be seen again, if it comes back after a short ammount of time it would suggest a leak some where if your not able to locate then id get a garage to take a look at it. Normally the brake will feel spongie if there is a leak as air will get in to the system if not then its probably just a case of topping up the resivour.

Car has 126k miles on the clock. It is quite hard to put the car into 1st and 2nd gear. it does go in with a little bit of fore but sometimes pops itself back out.
Any ideas to what this could be? Is it a easy fix? Is it a clutch problem or gearbox problem?
Many thanks in advance Read more
I went to the VW garage and got a couple of bottles of the synthetic stuff
I have just bought a new tyre pressure sensor for my Peugeot 407. It is due for a service soon and I want to know if a normal tyre fitting company can fit the sensor to the wheel. The garage I use is going to programme it to the car computer. Read more
I have had my car in for a service and requested that the new tyre pressure sensor be fitted to the wheel. I have been told that there is a part missing from the sensor and the fitter was unable to fit it to the wheel and make a seal. The only thing in the box (unopened when bought) was the sensor and valve cap. Does anybody know what else there is supposed to be. The sensor itself has a rubber washer around the base which, I assume creates the seal. I would be interested to see a schematic of the sensor if anybody knows where I can find one. T.I.A
Hi all - I have just bought a 2001 Focus Ghia. It has the factory fitted Ford 5000 unit, which I want to upgrade to a CD player. I bought a 6006 unit, which I thought would be a direct replacement, as it is shown as an option in the Audio Guide handbook. However, although the stalk control and power plugs appear to fit, the speaker plug doesn't.
So, how can I be sure of compatibility when buying a stereo online? Did the connections alter on 6000/6006 units during the 98-04 model run? I though of using an aftermarket head unit instead (not my preference), but am concerned that I would have the same problem with a harness adapter, as they only offer one version to cover 98-04...
And help or advice would be very gratefully received.... Read more
Fascinating - EXACTLY the same issue! The pics exactly match my two stereos, and they simply are not compatible. Even when you put the power plug into the 6006, it won't light up, and won't accept the code, yet it works fine in a later ST. So I know the 6006 isn't faulty, I know my 5000 functions perfectly, and I know that the two don't interchange. So there must have been some difference in connections at some point???
