I'm interested in buying a navara d22 as it ticks all the boxes for my needs, but I'm really put off by all the horror stories concerning the notorious conrod bearing failure. Is it possible to have the bearings upgraded prior to a fault occuring to effectively solve this problem, and if so are there any specialist garages who will carry out the work (or can this be done by any garage). Many thanks. Read more
A friend of mine has an H reg Bluebird 1.8. Has been owned by his Grandad since brand new, and has full history. Low mileage and in very sounds condition for its year. My friend has had it for 6 months now.
Sadly, yesterday it was diagnosed by the RAC as having blown its head gasket. It had overheated and wouldn't start again. Once the RAC started the engine, tons of white smoke was being emitted from the exhaust, so I think their diagnosis is the right one.
Knowing the good history and general good condition of the car, it might make more sense to repair it than spend the repair money on an unknown replacement car.
So my question is this. Is there anything else that will likely need replacing (thermostat etc), and how big and time consuming a job is this on a Bluebird? Could this breakdown have caused any wider problems which might make repair unwise?
We will be getting some quotes from local garages shortly, but I'd like to be at least a little wise on the likely cost before starting to call around. My initial thought is about 500 pounds. Right ball park?
Any help appreciated. Read more
Hello there,
This is my first post , I hope I've done everything right.
I have strange sound coming from engine (transmission) when releasing clutch, and now it's even louder when I release throttle when climbing(in gear) in lower rpm (-2000).
I found that other owners have the same problem , it's exactly the same sound on Youtube
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JHozPS4dGYk
Mazda service first replaced clutch(sound was less intensive for a while ), than turbo charger. I'm out of warranty now, and sound is still there .
I hope that someone can help.
Thank You..

Hi,
I have the above estate car, what i want to know is does any body know where the boot light switch is located?
The light in the boot works OK when i turn it on via the switch but will not work when I open the boot.
The light inside the car works when i open the doors but not the boot light.
Anyone know where the switch for the boot light is?
Thanks

Just make sure you're covered for insurance ;-)
Incredible footage on the news tonight of a car jumping a red light on a level crossing. Film shown from both sides of the crossing . It was quite amazing to see just how close the car was to the front of the train. Allowing for camera angles, etc, I would think that 12 inches was a good bet. The next clip saw a man run across in front of quite a fast train which actually took one of his shoes off....crazy ! Luckiest man of the year award ? Will they ever learn ?

Do people think I am an idiot? I blame the Volvo driver.
Sorry Lud - I was late for a meeting and texting my secretary.
I was doing 120 - why were you only doing 20mph on an A road?

Been battering the old keyboard for a few days as I seek insurance quotes for 3 vehicles shared between 2 self employed common law partners. Googled several of the companies now supposedly offering ' fleet ' or ' family insurance insurance as opposed to having 3 separate vehicle policies.
Every one of them has worked out more expensive than 3 separate lots of insurance.
Any suggestions ?

The LV website offers you a choice of how many years No Claims you have, ie over 4, over 5 up to over 9 years. Now my self and my partner have had a claim in over 20 years each.
We can prove 5 years each because we have been with our present insurer that long and it states it on their renewals but how do we prove over 9 years when we have had a series of different insurers, some of whom I can't even remember now. I thought the industry as a whole had all this info on computer ?
As above really does my '89 m30 engine 535 have a cold start valve? Im having issues with the car constantly flooding and refusing to start properly. basically it has been laid up and only moved short distances for quite a while now so unsurprisingly the engines flooded. if i remove the spark plugs and leave them on the radiator for 24 hours then refit them and start the car with the accelerator pressed to the floor it will fire then catch and start but not on all 6 cylinders but won't rev at all and if the accelerator is raised from full on it cuts out. after it cuts out then thats it, it refuses to start until i pull the plugs again and dry them and allow the fuel to evaporate in the cylinders. if when i refit the plugs and remove the fuel pump fuse and crank it it refuses to catch no matter how long i crank it, but will cough and splutter with a small amount of easystart, once the fuel pump fuse is replaced we start the whole catching but won't rev then cuts out cycle.
the ignition system is in a1 condition and i have a good strong spark and the plugs are quite new. all hoses and pipework for the inlet system are brand new so no air leaks. im now believing the car is overfueling which is causing the flooding. after reading lots of info on the net cold start valves and thermo time switches keep getting mentioned on the m30 engine but i don't know if my year has one, i only have two connectors on the thermostat house but i gather there should be a third if i have a thermo time switch. another possibility is the fuel pressure regulator could be knackered leading to overfueling, ill have to check this tomorrow.
at the minute i just need to get it to start and rev properly so it will idle then i can start to look for the issue, so i was hopin to find and just disconnect the thermo time switch which would disable the cold start valve.
sorry for the long post but the cars been off the road for awhile while ive completed other work on it and now i want to get back to driving it so id be glad of any suggestions!
cheers

it's alive, i've had the spark plugs sat on a hot radiator all week to fully dry the fuel out of them, and to allow the fuel to evaporate from the cylinders. i then cleaned up the distributor points with a dremel to a nice shiny finish as they were looking a bit dull, i then went back round all the connections in the inlet and fuel systems making sure they were all fitted securely, it then fired up first turn of the key with no throttle at all and settled to a near perfect idle. now just got a slight exhaust leak to fix and she's good to go
thanks for all the help,
chris
My Shogun has very little heating inside the vehicle. I have flushed the cooling system and added a system flushing agent this has had little effect. Is the only possible reason for this now is due to the matrix being blocked, or is there another possible explanation? Would appreciate your help in the matter. Read more
A jammed thermostat could cause these problems. how hot is your engine running when fully warmed up.

< I agree with Andrew cracking car very reliable & they don't build them like it
any more.
I reckon if they built that model new now they would still sell well. Big
spacious car with large boot & light controls to drive.>
I think the time is coming when a manufacturer will take the hint and do just that.
