Fire truck or limousine? tinyurl.com/cy9ffx

The Fire Engine Preservation Society would be your best bet.
We had several trips in a convoy of elderly engines, from Ocean Village, Southampton to Paulton's Park, then to Romsey Fire Station and back to Ocean village, when they took the children from the cancer ward on a trip. Many of the owners are serving firemen. Not sure of the 'expenses' cost - the lovely old Dennis engine we travelled on did 4 miles to the gallon!

There's been one parked up in the car park at www.theholliesfarmshop.co.uk for a while.

Just a suggestion.
In the event of a Fire brigade strike then the GG will be called in for a store by the Military.
If you speak nicely to the head of your local Fire Brigade he may know of a local Military establishment where one is stored.
In the mean time

DWD - all the GGs have now been disposed of by HMG - they were too outdated.
tinyurl.com/bx6qqf confirms.
For the OP - try asking around your local historic vehicle clubs - there's bound to be one not too far away.

wasn't there a leotard clad lady who used to try to encourage people to be more fit via breakfast t.v....maybe the OP meant that
|
She's been disposed of too - because she was outdated. Fit as a robber's dog in her day mind you, and better looking ISTR!
|
just to clarify it is the fire engine im after, but its been a while so i wont turn down an aging fitness freak either if anyone has her number :-)
i'll give those ideas so far a try thanks

Slightly off topic but I managed to frighten my personal "Westpig" with a GG. He had gone ahead to secure a traffic light controlled crossroad as I approached faster than he expected with blue lights and two tone horns on. Amazing how much smoke you can get off of a traffic Ford Granada's back wheels. The Granada bit should should indicate how long ago it was.

what will they use the next time theres a firefighters strike? they used GG's because the regular pumps were too sophisticated for the "squaddies".
|
I remember them all being auctioned off, a few years back.
Every BCA had a yard full - previously stored at Lex depots, around the country& might even have been sold & lease back, the same way as the army has it's tanks, these days!!
There's bound to be a collector of vintage vehicles, with a couple, in his shed, once you start looking!!

The fire engines the normal crews used. They had a training programme. I hope they kept it up.

All navy personell are trained firefighters and can use breathing apparatus, as are RAF aircraft firefighters. The army are a last resort. Dont know about equipment but the Home office (or whatever they are called this week) used to keep reserves of many types of vheicles and equipment stored in hangers on disused airfields (now industrial estates).

Erm, has nobody wondered why he needs a GG?
|
|
i could tell you but then id have to kill you!!!!!
|
|
You are going to set fire to your house and then swear that you did your best to put it out?
|
|
my guess is he wants it for an alternative wedding vehicle
|
Perhaps the clue's in OP's user-name....
.... as the old joke used to go, "Come home to a real fire, buy a Welsh holiday cottage"! ;-)
Further to other comments; it wasn't just due to the GG's being simpler and "squaddie-proof" but they also lacked modern specialist equipment, and furthermore they were not cost-effective to maintain. They were powered by petrol engines too, and virtually all Army vehicles are diesel nowadays.
The pump was actually one of the GG's best features, quite powerful for its time.

You are arranging an emergency services day to include a GG and local or modern fire appliances.
I suggest you tread carefully about mixing the two together. As bad blood might still boil to the surface considering the last Ffs strike is still fresh in many minds. If you brought it anywhere near London, especially Essex, you would end up with a damaged GG in some way. If I were you, I would leave the GG out to be on the safe side.
Save that for a forces day.
