Hello

What is the most common size of tyre in the UK?

And what percentage of the tyres sold would that be?

Reason I have asked is that me and my sn went to a car supermarket today looking at another car for. him. As we looked, we both noted that most small or ordinary family cars had the 195/65/15 tyres, whilst the smaller cars had 195/65/13.
Thanks.

Have just had the windscreen replaced on my 04 Legacy Tourer. This was done whilst I was at work yesterday by a company supplied through my insurance. Have only just had chance to look at it in daylight. I'm sure I could have fitted it better myself.

The rubber strip around the windscreen now has a ridge with stands proud of the windscreen and surrounding metalwork by about 7mm. The rubber doesn't actually reach the metalwork in the top corners. I'm sure that wind noise has increased noticeably. Am also not convinced it will be watertight. Unfortunately I can't remember how it looked before and have been unable to locate a detailed enough photo on the internet, but if my memory is correct the windscreen & rubber were virtually flush with the metalwork. Customer services are due to ring me on Monday, but I would like to confirm how the windscreen fitted before. Ideally I don't want to have to drive to nearest Subaru garage (about 45 minutes away). Could anyone either describe how the windscreen should fit or point me towards a photo online?

Many thanks.

I had to replace the rear screen on my '04 year Legacy estate after I had left the car with the rear cover drawn over the 'boot'. A low-life broke the screen to investigate why I was hiding the 'boot'.

The replacement was done very professionally two or three days later at home. I was as pleased as possible, in the circumstances, with the result. The AA handled it all. Rubbers tend not to be used now, but the screen are glued in with black 'gunk'.

I have been looking at the new Megane III and HJ has been very impressed with the car, finding it very comfortable to drive. I have an old Megane saloon I and although it's long in the tooth, it is still very very good on smooth roads. However, with the history of electrical problems, this has set me wondering. Is it better only to buy a car once it has had a facelift? Would it be wiser say to buy a facelifted Mazda 3,-current not the new Mazda 3 'facelifted' 2009 version - rather than a new Megane III, and then wait for the facelifted Megane III ? Somone commented that Renault let their customers find the problems through driving and then make adjustments accordingly. Do all manufacturers do the same? Read more

you could buy mine: Megan 11. Sept 2007, 1.9Cdi 130bhp black estate with cruise, a/c etc etc. FSH, still under warrenty, 30,000 m-way miles, no problems at all. I change cars every two years - BUT I'm just about to finish a contract and taking some long over due time off, so don't need car for a few months. I never buy a new car in first 12 months of production either. My family car is Espace 2006 - blown turbo at 24000, under warrenty, no other problems - and yes I need 7 seats. Probably replace Espace with another Espace Sept 09. Shame they didn't make the new one yet...

I am looking at buying my next car and I came across these people as they seem to offer Part-Ex which will be good.

Has anyone had any dealings with them?

Reliable or walk-away?

I'd certainly recommend drivethedeal. because you pay nothing to them and deal with a main dealer you have nothing to lose. I saved over £2k on the local dealer's best price a couple of years ago.

With hindsight, probably not the best idea to create one thread for ANPR discussions, when there are clearly some emotive issues connected to it.

As you were - please feel free to start new threads as things come up. Sorry! :)

today's Mail has a pic/story abt an Austrian farmer who upset animals rights people by carrying two calves on back seats of his Golf. They're comfortable, he points out, reasonably. Anyone here driven with an animal(s) larger than a dog in the rear? Read more

My view is I dislike Dunlop tyres. I have had several bad experiences of bulging sidewalls.

Yes I suppose you can mix different makes of tyres, but I don't like doing so.

My DIL has a Mini Cooper and has just had a set of Pirelli run flats.

I spent a few years in my youth with an 850cc Mini (a detuned van) and had basic cars for years. I had friends however who had a Spitfire and a Cortina 1600E. These were considered real performance cars by my mates at the time and it did certainly seem so.

I just happened to look at the performance figures though by chance - the 1600E is around the same to 60mph as my `umble Punto van and 6mph slower - while using nearly three times as much fuel - despite being around 180lbs lighter.

In the progression of things, It must surely be the same across the board with humble modern motors.. It seems we eventually got `sports cars` without having to buy one..........

Of course, you need to be of a certain age to achieve that perspective and to have spent formative years in basic breadbaskets, but.....

Regarding the Hunter GLS - I learned to drive in a similarly engined Humber Sceptre (1725 twin webers) - poor mans Rolls Royce as a recall.

Lets not get sentimental here - heavy lump of a car on skinny tyres - OK 0-60 in 14.5 reasonable for early 1970s - but dodgy handling compared with anything modern - in the wet just scary. I took 3 engines and an awful lot of tlc to get it to 120,000 - really more of a hobby than a form of transport

My first car of any stature paid for with my own folding money (1986) was an early 8v Mk 2 Golf GTI - still the best combination of performance, handling, economy and style of any car I have owned - any an amazing progress in one decade.

I find it easier to get sentimental about the Golf!
