When cruising car runs fine but if you lightly ease off the power car starts juddering. To stop this you take your foot off completly or push down hard. In the second option you get some black smoke out back then car takes off. Anyone any ideas. Read more
On another discussion forum with something to do with heads, there is a 4 month old car advertised /sales/892916.htm which cost 163k and is up for sale, with 1,600 on the clock for 95k. Ouch.

The Mega-rich have them airfreighted to the factory for service, allegedly!
I see a fair few Mitsubishi Outlanders and the odd Citroen C-Crosser. But I don't think I've ever seen a 4007. There might be one in a Peugeot showroom, of course, but I've not been in one of those for ages.
This is an extreme example but it fits my thoughts on Peugeot at the moment: while Citroen seems to be riding a new wave of confidence and style (although whoever picked the name C-Crosser?), but Peugeot seems to have completely lost its way. There will always be the small cars, I suppose - for those with feet small enough to select a pedal rather than pressing all three - but the 308, 407 and 4007 are so gobsmackingly ugly they would have to be (a) utterly fantastic or (b) free to attract customers away from Ford or VW.
There's another thread here criticizing Renault's design direction, but I think Peugeot has a much worse problem - don't you? Read more
My mate has one. Again its the top of the range diesel, its very nice. However I think that its the ugliest of the Outlander platform cars.
I have a lease with Peugeot & they have called me three times in effort to get me to change before it expires. During the last call I told them that bar the 407 coupe (good looking car with decent kit imho) there isn't a car in their range that I find appealing.
It saddens me to say it as I've consistently had Peugeots for the past 12+ years & I've owned some crackers. I now have a family so my circumstances have altered. But Peugeots have become so dull, uninspiring, stodgy (& plain ugly in some cases) I will driving a different brand shortly.
When people ask me about driving in the USA I usually limit my advice to 'if you get pulled over don't do anything to make the officer nervous'.
Here's a good example of why

Police opened fire on an unarmed couple during a routine traffic stop late Tuesday night because one officer "thought he was shot," a high-ranking Salinas Police Department official said Thursday. "He saw what he perceived as a threat and thought he was shot, and based on that both officers discharged their firearms," said Dino Bardoni, commander of investigations.
In spite of that, fortunately,...
No one was hurt in the 11:24 p.m. incident at North Sanborn Road and Freedom Parkway, but the couple's SUV was riddled with bullet holes and its rear window was shattered.

Not excusing this at all, but the city of Salinas has some real problems with violent crime, gang violence and unemployment.
Hi
I know this may sound like a stupid question but i have recently been given a 98 VW polo. Yesterday i came to fill it up and couldn't get the petrol cap off.
Is there a special way of getting this off, which I haven't heard of? Looks straight forward - unlock (manually) and turn?!
Someone help! The petrol light is on and i have no way of getting in to fill it up!
Thanks

Many cars now have a torque setting on the fuel cap. You turn it until it clicks, presumably to ensure the gasket seats adequately to perform a decent seal with the filler neck.
I find it quite difficult to undo some of these caps (arthritis).
Get a gorilla to give it a go! ;>)
Have had intermittent power loss in my Expert van for several months now, originally started one day whilst driving in very wet conditions. Usually this van/engine combination has plenty of power upto about 90MPH and right through the gears. When the condition occurs it is only capable of about 70MPH and then only if you keep the revs high. It also becomes very sluggish through the gears.
The condition now appears to be there permanently.
Over several weeks I have replaced MAF and diaphragm. I have also replaced return pipe in fuel line as all these required replacement. Each time these seemed to cure/help the problem for a limited period of time.
I have had the fault codes read several times which helped with diagnosing the parts already replaced but yesterday the code displayed was:
Diagnose Code ( 000246 Relay A Of Turbocompressor Exhaust Valve
I have no idea what this means. Can anyone help?? Read more
I just thought I would mention: I own my car!
After 37 months and 83k miles, I've actually finished paying for my car. In celebration, and so I don't get complacent, the auto bit of the drivers window has stopped working; fortunately, as I extended the warranty, this last bit of mischief on its part has fallen flat. :-)
Not that I'd anthropomorphosise a car obviously. Read more
Tut tut, Gordon. That's really not playing the game, old boy. You're supposed to look at your car and think, "I can't be doing with this tatty old thing any more. I must get me down to Mr Honda's shiny shop, use what's left as a deposit on a new one and begin the whole sorry cycle all over again."
Ahem, sorry. What I meant to say was, "Congratulations!"

fault is an intermittent one

Usual problems with these are poor connections to either the battery terminals or the starter motor.hth

One of my Australian pals who lives in a rural wooded area has a rather unusual fire extiguisher, A Honda petrol pump fed by his (big) swimming pool. He admits it would not be much use in a serious fire but might buy him some time for help to arrive.
The dealer from whom we bought the used-vehicle is recommending we keep up with the 6 monthly fuel system cleaner treatment at 12.99/time. Is it worth it? Read more
I would just use a branded fuel, Shell, BP, whatever. If it is a couple of pence a litre dearer then it will still be a long time before you have spent £12,99 extra.

Cheers will give it ago. Have also ben told it could be maf so will try all one by one.
