Hello,
I tried to start my 2001 Kia Rio this morning
1. Upon turning my key the first time, the car turned over very very slowly but did not start. All the lights on my dashboard, radio, electric windows worked
2. Turning the key the second time produced nothing at all - the car did not turn over. All the lights on my dashboard, raio, electric windows still worked as usual
3. Left the car alone for two or three minutes
4. Tried started the car again for a third time - it worked perfectly. Car started immediately.
5. Drove to work and parked my car (it was urgent)
6. Two hours later when it was time to go home, the car started immediately.
Possibly relevent information: I had a new alternator fitted last month.
Can anyone tell what the problem I had this morning was? A faulty ignition switch?
Thank you

1st of all ive read through many posts using search button (even though am still a newbie!) and wanted some good advice if possible..
set off from a set of traffic lights on a round about with a transit van on the inside of me (left hand lane) and i wanted to go straight forward as it went onto a dual carriage way with 2 lanes exiting the roundabout.. i set off and as i indicated left to go up the slip (there was a road to the left before the exit which had traffic lights too but no exit off roundabout and dont know if he came thru on red as never noticed him when i was stopped at the lights)road the transit van decided to go past the exit to carry on round the roundabout at this point his wheel and bumper destroyed my door and wing and wheel, at aprox 15mph..i pulled over as did he and he was like are you ok, i said yeah but my car isnt, asked if any damage to his flat bedded transit and he said no just a mark on the bumper..i passed on my details as did he, now just recieved a letter from his insurance saying they want to get in touch with my insurers due to uninsured losses for him! this happend on the 21st jan and as he said he was fine and no damage iv made in roads into getting my car sorted privately as didnt want the hassle but now this. Any ideas on what happens now or what to say?
just heard back from the insurance company saying it will probably be 50/50..im 3rd party fire and theft so what would i have to pay for if this is the case and what would i have to pay for if 100% my fault? thanks in advance (i have tried looking on google earth etc but cant seem to work out where id come from) Read more
The clutch has started to slip on my focus. I thought that it would be better to get it done asap. I can get hold of a full kit for £104 which is for the plates, bearing and slave clyinder, which i think is reasonable. does anybody know how long it would take a garage to do and how difficult is it, as i am wondering how much it may cost on labour. Local garages are around £45 - £60 per hour. Read more
Exterior temp gauge suddenly rose from 8 deg C to 52 deg C and now seems to be stuck there.
Is this an easy part to replace? Where is it and how is it replaced.
Aircon still working but car seems to be letting outside air into the car unheated meaning Aircon settings need to be high to warm....28 deg otherwise cool air is coming through vents.
Thanks Read more
My 406 had it sticking out of the nearside door mirror on the bottom edge.
Hello all,
Does anybody have any experience in changing ignition barrels, particularly on the mk1 Renault Master?
Easy to do?
Cheers,

What's the most commonly broken speed limit?
I bet it's 30mph.
So why do so many new cars have speedos that don't show 30?
20, 40, 60, 80 etc, but not 30.
There are lots of 50mph limits on our roads and even more at 70mph, both of which are also missing.
My other gripe is speedos numbered to a pointless 160mph, which means the real world numbers you do need to use are too close together.

The new Audi A4/A5/TT manages to exasberate this problem - by not only omitting 30/50/70 markings and having a scale going up to 180mph, but the angle is also completely wrong. 0 is needle vertically down; 70 is just past quarter-to and 180mph is quarter past - so you lose the intuitive ability to gauge speed "at a glance" just by the angle of tjhe needle.
It does manage to compensate for it by also having a nice large digital speedo on the colour LCd screen in the middle of the dials though...
I have a VW Passat TDi 1.9- on two occasions the ASB & ESP lights have come on .
On the first occasion I went to turn the engine on,and engine would not start-did this twice same result, then waited 10 minutes, turned ignition on engine started and no problem until 3 days later when I drew up to a set of traffic lights which were on red-when lights showed green, went to move off when both lights came on and engine cut out( in the middle lane of the A19 scary) fortunately a young man pused me onto the grassed area where I waited for 15 minutes-turned ignition on and again engine started and home I went.
Rang the local VW dealed and booked car in for dianostic test for pm Monday- test done but showed no fault. Advised my Service Manger to leave car for further testing. On Tuesday Manager rang to say that could not find fault, requested pick up car.
Obtained keys, turned on ignition and fault occured-showed to manager who said that he would retain car for further testing. On Wed manager rang to say that fault had not occured again even after a number of road tests.
Visited dealer advised of tests done ECU (management system)perfect, electrics OK,leads, sensors. Advised if fault occured again to bring car in,also asked if I had recovery which I do,also have a 2 year warranty by Olympic Warranties Ltd .
HELP PLEASE.

Since the adverts, I have seen a lot more tv usual white coloured family sized cars.

Hello
What is the most common size of tyre in the UK?
And what percentage of the tyres sold would that be?
Reason I have asked is that me and my sn went to a car supermarket today looking at another car for. him. As we looked, we both noted that most small or ordinary family cars had the 195/65/15 tyres, whilst the smaller cars had 195/65/13.
Thanks.

Sorry, just to add i was the first car at the traffic lights and no transit was next to me to my knowledge, he never signalled and its my belief that he came from the left through a red light as the whole roundabout was traffic lit and his were at red. the link offf of google i cant post but its the a19 where it joins the A/M 194 round about.
