Tyres + Most common size - paul2007
Hello

What is the most common size of tyre in the UK?

And what percentage of the tyres sold would that be?

Reason I have asked is that me and my sn went to a car supermarket today looking at another car for. him. As we looked, we both noted that most small or ordinary family cars had the 195/65/15 tyres, whilst the smaller cars had 195/65/13.
Thanks.

Good sensible sizes those 2, lots of choice of good quality replacements very reasonably priced.
hmm...car for your lad, forget those sensible tyres, he'll want 17" at least with elastic bands around them..;) says he conveniently forgetting his 15" supplied car is running on 17's...well at least i admit it he bleated in mitigation....

We do have some weird and wonderful sizing now, and much of it for looks.

When i was in the tyre game many years ago we only had about half a dozen sizes for probably 90% of all cars, could double that if you included eqivalent cross plies, now i should think the size combinations are several hundreds if not more, and probably hundreds more when you chuck in the various speed ratings for each size.

Doesn't seem that long ago when my mk3 Zodiac sported 165 x 13's, upgrade from 560 x 13 if my memory is right, and the ventora 175 x 13, how did we end up with a new Insignia sporting 20" wheels on a diesel?

Thanks.

Our son is 27 & changing is Golf Gti for a more modest car that attracts less attention.
