"Through rigorous testing and research we're able to produce oils to the exacting requirements of classic engines"

Sorry to be the cynic. But I thought classic engines oil specs were not very `exacting` at all by modern standards and Duckhams had that covered with Q20w/50 around fifty years ago?
Anyway, do you remember the first time you cracked open a can of Q20w-50? the colour and smell -I seems to remember it was developed with the Mini`s engine oil sharing gearbox in mind?
Happy days ;-) I used nothing else for years and then moved on to Duckhams 15w40 for later cars. I wonder why the brand name seems to have more or less faded away?

Can anyone please tell me what oil goes in the gearbox of my car.
It has a slight leak from the driveshaft but I am putting off changing the seal until the warmer weather..
Many thanks. Read more
According to the Castrol site a 99 focus needs SMX-S and a 98 Focus needs Syntrans.
Hi, I owned for five years a fabulous Fiesta Zetec S 1.4 from 1998, and even though the engine seems to be working fine -it has 72000 kms in the clock-, I wonder if I should use a different motor oil since my owner's handbook recommends 15W-40, perhaps because Ford considered that the car would be driven in hot weather -Mexico-, but we have a wide range temperatures here, from the winter's mornings below 2 or 3 grades to a maximum around 20 grades... of course in the coasts areas they never have winters, but I've been tempted to switch to 5W-30, since even in summer time I never use the car above 27 or 28 grades...
Can I make this change of oil type without a problem? Would it benefit my car's engine?
I'll appreciate any comment... Read more
Has anyone got any ideas about a problem we are having with our Honda Shuttle. The OSR brake is not coming off straight away when you release the brake pedal. We have replaced the brake calliper but the problem is still there. Discs and pads were also replaced with calliper. Wheel gets hot after about 10 miles of driving, wheel nuts too hot to touch but wheel is warm.
Where can we look next to fault find?
Any ideas greatly received. Read more
I am surprised that while he was at it that he did not change the flexible hose, (assuming that a dedicated hose is there for that side, it will probably depend on the split arrangements on this vehicle). Very little extra labour and cost. Not unknown for flexibles to develope 'one way valve' characteristics.

I have a rain sensor on my 306 estate which varies the speed of wipe with the severity of the rainfall. There is a specific switch position to operate the wipers in automatic mode. The problem is that when the wipers go to the park position they judder over the final 30degrees or so of the sweep - most annoying! This only happens when in auto mode, NOT when you switch off the wipers from any other mode(ie not from fast, normal or wipe once). The clicking of a relay can be heard as the judder occurs. I get the impression that this is probably a problem with the rain sensor or maybe a relay. Has anyone else experienced this problem? If so what did you do to correst it? - many thanks in anticipation of some help Read more
Hmm. I agree that wiper malfunctions like this usually mean a new motor - not cheap. But I fixed mine (99T reg) with a used motor from Car Transplants. £30 IIRC. DIY, easy.
i have an escort 55 on an 'S' reg. and recently i have begun to have problems with starting it. the lignition and lights all switch on, however the engine doesnt turn over. i have vague knowledge about the immobiliser and the PATS system with the LED but i was wondering if there was anyway i can bypass it at all? my LED is flashing quickly for a minute, then its code it flashing 3 times and then flashing 2 times, this is repeated 10 times. i dont have the red coded key as that was never given to me when i brought the thing! so is there anyone out there with any help? thinking of maybe buying one of these, is there any problems that i would need to look out for...thanks Read more
No, I guess it is like any car though, you could be unlucky! I put my foot down and still have a little smile as it accelerates!
I do have a thing for Fast Fords though!
Some may recall my addiction to all things motoring on recently installed Sky.
A couple of weeks ago I was on the piste for a week and didn't get my fix.
I now see Sandy and a female are no longer in the employ of Jock "I'm the boss of the garage!"
What happened to Sandy - a big lad who could remove and replace a 4X4 gearbox with one hand?

That explains it nicely thanks.
I always thought he had more potential than he let on. He quietly got on with what he had to do and was very competent. Perhaps more capable in all respects than the foreman who oversaw him.
I have a Vauxhall Vectra 2l that runs on both petrol and LPG I have problems with it not starting properly. When it is cold it is fine it starts first time. After I have driven it for a short run to drop the kids off at school and the engine is warmer it struggles to start. It will start after a couple of attempts and holding the ignition on for some time. There is an orange light on my dashboard(looks like a picture of an engine) which stays on whilst on petrol but not whilst on LPG.
Any hints as to what it might be.

Just checked my 98MY lovely green Vectra 2.0; yes it is the 16 pin connector as per your link above, only difference on my car at least is that that the socket is the other way round i.e. the pins 1-8 row is nearest the driver with pin 1 nearest the front of the car.
I'd check the codes with ignition on engine off, you may get crank and cam sensor codes anyway under this condition, doesn't necessarily mean they're broke.
Just watching the BBC news with the fragrant and delectable Fiona Bruce. Sorry, mind wandered off then. Report and film showing a stunt man testing an air bag jacket. Garment connected to bike by a cord and a plug. Jacket inflates in 1/5 of a second and protects the torso and organs . Seemed to work very well.

Can't help thinking that anyone foolish enough to wear one in a real bikers cafe or other haunt would be running a real risk of being "let off" at some point during the proceedings........
"See that bloke at the bar ? Tenner says you wouldn't pull that cord ! "
"Tenner you say ?" .......

No, not at all. Tractors have got so sophisticated now that farmers have to be more careful with maintenance.
Feeling sad now, The Rams1-United4.
