Filling up the other day some stupid idiot rubbed her stupid little Ka against my wheel arch.
I got her address details and she agreed to pay for the repairs but looking at it with the dirt rubbed off it's a very minor abrasion of the plastic wheel arch trim. To get it back to original with abit of paint will probably be £100 via a mate in the trade and then she might renege on the agreement.
Alternatively I can just put it down to experience and try to polish it out - any tips? Read more
edit, found a 'non' adult website that has the same clip that RR posted earlier, but we temp removed.

Yes, I was bored and my mind was wandering while driving home earlier!
You are on a normal road, one lane in your direction, one lane coming towards you. There are no opportunities to pull off this road. You notice a gritter heading towards you. To do the least damage to your paintwork, do you do you...
a) Slow down/stay at your normal speed.
or
b) Speed up so that the grit is being sprayed on your car for less time (but maybe with greater force because you're hitting it harder because of your speed)?

Yes. We know. We're trying to ignore it. ;>)

Hi H.B.,
Thanks,I think thats fair comment. My old Laguna goes quite well for an 1800 because I think the power/weight ratio is quite high.I dont expect either Mondeo or Vectra 1800's to be so...
I do quite a lot of motorway journeys of about 90 miles,so something comfortable would be good!
I'm going to look at a 1.8SRI (56reg) and a 1.8 Mondeo Edge(07reg) this evening.Might be the proud owner..;-)...tomorrow.
Thanks also to everyone for their help....GREAT FORUM!!
Phil.
I recently had the temperature sensor replaced on my Mk5 Golf, as it was regulalrly reading between -20 and -30 degrees - in the middle of summer. All seemed ok until the last few days - I know the weather is very cold, but I am now seeing anything around -10 degrees on the dash, driving to work at 8am in Gloucestershire....
What are others getting in the past few days? Do I have another dodgy sensor?

I've seen minus six driving to and from work in the south east, so it might not be too far off!
The banks must be having a laugh. In my local branch on saturday making sure I had cash in the account for my car finance payment - motoring link, and was asked, would you like to open a saving account with us?
Now, seeing as how the bank in question was in the news as loosing a significant amount of cash to a glorified pyramid scheme in the states, do they really think the public are stupid enough to pass them their life savings in the same week?

Well, I ventured over to Geordieland today. across the Pennines on the M62. Temperatures ranged from -7C up as balmy as 0.5C by mid day. Back down to -2C when I got out of the car around 5.00pm.
The motorway was predictably busy in the usual places. At times it was doing that fairly standard issue three lane moving traffic jam thing where everything is doing about 55mph regardless of lane. Sometimes in those circumstances lane 2 is actually moving ever so slightly quicker than lane 3 with the result that sedate rolling undertaking happens.
I was in lane 2. Guy in front of me ( and all the ones in front of him as far as I could see ) in a black newish Vectra started to gently undertake lane 3 as the traffic in the "fast" lane backed up a little. Probably not legal but an everyday occurance nonetheless and not done aggressively as far as I could see. The speed differential was only marginal.
As he passed, a chap in a C5 estate, a beardy librarian sort of lookalike, the Citroen driver flipped. Fortunately and mainly due to the potential for ice I had left a very decent gap of maybe 200 yards. The C5 shot out of lane 3 into lane 2 just as I was drawing near and judging by the plume of diesel smoke absolutely floored it. This caused me to brake firmly which I would have preferred not to have done but it was no big deal. Vectraman had by this time lane hopped into lane 3. Our hirsute librarian then undertakes Vectraman at speed and then forces his way in front of him into a gap which really wasn't there and hits the anchors hard.
Bear in mind this was in heavy traffic in the third lane of the M62 at a temperature below freezing. At no time did either of them signal and it became very clear from the behaviour of both parties that some kind of road rage was going on.
I had no option but to undertake them both in lane 2 as I had a stream of traffic behind me which I did not trust to stop in time. In my mirrors I could see lane 3 slewing to a halt. I feared an accident but heard nothing subsequently on the radio.

Might have been a Molotov ...
In freezing conditions this morning the handbrake light stayed on and the abs light also.
Could the brake fluid ( which absorbs water over time) have caused the abs light? I can imagine that the handbrake could be part frozen but would this cause abs problems? Any help or similar experiences would be appreciated. Read more
Disconecting the battery first time around wiped the fault code.
Frozen brakes were all having a little of this my handbrake is a little weak but a few tugs of the leaver and pump the pedal while driving free it off.
Your car will have to have the codes read to see what your fault is might just be a sensor issue.
Hope this is OK to post.

Like that 159, but the c8 would be a more likely purchase in my situation.

The difference is that somebody who buys day in day out from auctions obviously know
how they work and how to buy a lot better than somebody who pops in
once every 4 years.
Thanks for your comments. The other thing I've read is that if a dealer group buyer is buying a load of cars he can afford to make the odd mistake. If you're buying one car for yourself then you're in trouble if that one car is a lemon.

Look on the bright side - it probably didn't reduce its' value. ;>)
