My local dealer today is advertising 09 Reg Insignia 1.8 Exclusiv for £11997, an alleged saving of £4643 on list price.

By my rough figures thats a 28% discount on a brand new model!!

Happy Blue!

The beast (Outback) has returned and the repair garage seems to have done a good repair, although the quick wash and brush up afterwards was not great. In any event, the leather needs a good clean and its cold outside, so with the exception of the Great American on Rochdale Road, can anyone recommend a good valeter (not just a hand car wash) in the Manchester area?

I am here, do not fear !
Have only used them once for a tatty Pug 806 belonging to my local postmaster who used it as a van most of the time. It's a couple of years back and I think it was about £60. They did a good job in view of the state of the shed. Erin Dors found a guy who came to our hovel and did her car. He was a more mature gentleman working for himself and did a first class job...I'll see if I can find his no. tomorrow.

In these days of ANPR etc., there's no hope, is there, for somebody wanting to buy a car with no tax from a private seller.

How do people do it?

I had a car accident one week ago- I've crashed the fence. No other cars were involved, and there was no other people, no witnesses. I didn't call the police and came back home. When I checked my car I noticed quite bad damage to it. I have comprehensive insurance. Can I apply for compensation if I didnt call the police and have no other evidence just damage to my car? The main beam switch on a friends Fiesta has become intermittent in that sometimes when you push the lights stalk forward all of the headlights go out.

I bought 2 replacements from Ebay and both had the same problem so it seems like its a common one.

I have dismantled one of the stalk sets and can see how everything switches apart from the man beam.

Does anyone know how the maon beam switch is acivated or can supply me with details from the wiring diagram please.

This is driving me nuts!

After much meter work and thinking it was the wiring/plug in the car beacuse it worked perfectly when the plug was held hard in place, it turned out to be the printed circuit board was moving slightly by flexing (in all 3 sets) and causing an intermitttent contact inside the stalk pod.

Packed it out with some cardboard to stiffen it against the casing and it works fine.

Good ob it only took me 3 days of playing with it to work this out.

Hi all,

Following on from the thread last time on the misfiring Octavia. RTJ70 suggested getting the codes read. So we have bought a cable and obatined VAG.COM.

How do we go about connecting it. Do you do all this with ignition on? off? or with engine switched on?

Is there any risks with reading the codes like this? We are going to have a look tonight so any help would be great.

Have you checked the idle control valve? It sounds like the fault is there but with it being an auto I don't know if that adds extra problems.

I've viewed a 56 plate 1800 diesel focus which seems like a pretty good deal (£5,300 private sale). It's got 38k on it but it didn't have its first service until it had covered nearly 21k miles (at 9 months from first registration) !!

The manual states that it should be serviced at 12.5k miles! Should I walk away or has oil and engine technology moved on so much of late that this is acceptable?

Does the first oil change on a new engine not have to be done at 500/1000 miles anymore? Read more

I once test drove a diesel Focus which had covered 61k miles.

After seeing that it had been serviced just once in this time, I walked away. The saleman did say, "well that doesn't matter, we'll service it before you collect it".

Missed servicing just shows that the owner was running it on the cheap.

Missed oil changes kills diesel and turbocharged engines. Petrol engines are slightly more tolerant.

Hi I had to disconnect my battery and need to re-enter the keycode. I have this, but I don't know how to enter it. There is a '0' in the code and no '0' amoung the keys. Can anyone advise?

Or with 4-digit code use the first four buttons and "5" to enter.
