Probably panicked when he saw a "city"player coming in the other direction! - tried to swerve around him, claimed a foul, and hit wall as usual. Not used to being alone or driving in tunnels pehaps? usually gets all his mates to walk him through them! ;-)

A Rec Top quote "Witnesses said his car was a "mangled wreck" ? and police say it is a write-off."""
Soon to be found on Ebay- " One famous owner" ? :-))
He was being followed by his team-mate Edwin van der Sar in his Bentley, who did not crash.
He has form:-
The same Red Top quotes :-
"CRISTIANO RONALDO is slippery on and off the pitch...... and now sliding his car off the road with some fancy driving.
The Man U winger found himself facing the wrong way on a roundabout on Monday night after scoring a double (on the pitch) in the match against Fulham.
He was tanking it in his brand new Audi R8 when he lost control and spun the car 180 degrees.
A source said: ?Cristiano had a real fright. He was giving it some welly on his way home from the game, in great spirits after a brilliant performance.
?The road was a bit slippery and he ended up losing control, power-sliding around the roundabout. He did manage to turn the car safely and avoid any damage...but he?s had a proper scare.?
Well the scare did not last long!.

At the time of the crash he was being followed.... Had Ronaldho just sprinted past? Looks like a lot of energy was absorbed by the bump.
In line with the "lottery garage thread" he obviously has a few cars.
Wonder how he decides which one to take to work each day? Think he has a Monday car, a Tuesday car etc? IIRC he paid a fortune for a CR plate, wonder which car that is on?
Of course if he has a Bugatti, well, I assume its on that!
(I suppose if he keeps crashing them that will make his morning choice easier)

With a car like that at 23 years old his insurance premium must have been enormous ~ and with good cause apparently!
I've always said those footballers or indeed anybody with a very powerful car should me made to take an advanced driving test.
A friend of mine discribed what she saw this morning, she had to drive over the rubble of a red car which had just crashed in some tunnel near the airport, she didn';t see the crash as it must have happened about 1 minute before she got there. The red car must have been the Ferrari - women eh.
I posted on another thread yesterday about badly driven Bentley on the M56...the next junction after that incident is the Wilmslow/Alderley Edge turn which goes through the tunnel......I wonder ?
Ted

come on now he's famous so its obviously not his fault it cant be its the fault of the local authorities who failed to make sure any road he may travel on was in perfect pristine condition as befitting a man of his stature (oh i hate celeb's)

This is a chicken and egg situation. Which comes first ~ a salary big enough to buy a Ferarri, or a crashed Ferrari requiring a salary big enough to buy another Ferrari!
It's an ill wind that blows nobody any good. In this instance Ferrari Great Britain Ltd. will now probably get an order for another car.
Or more likley his loccal Ferrari dealer will have had a replacement at his front door ready for him returning from training.
Accident appears to be a single vehicle - loss of control.
Unless there's been a mechanical failure (rare) the normal cause of these types of accident is excess speed.
Ferrari, excess speed - potentially icy conditions - what are the chances of that?
And I would have thought that every inch of the tunnel would be covered by CCTV?
I've used that tunnel many times but never seen a plane taxiing over it. I was driving under a similar one in Amsterdam at the very second a 747 was crawling along right above me and seemingly so close to the edge. My jaw hit the floor, it was a scene that didn't make sense - driving under a jumbo jet.
How can you be driving under a similar tunnel AND see a 747?
there is no truth in the rumour he jumped out of the car and rolled over on the ground 30 times clutching his knee.
It's a police investigation now so....
It's a police investigation now so....
So is that a yellow card or a red card?
It's a police investigation now so....
Will the police report state "he drifted into the near post....."

No but he claimed the wall hadn't retreated far enough back from him.......
His Ferrari, bought in Portugal and shipped over to the UK, was LEFT HAND DRIVE.
Any particular reason why? And was this a factor in the (alleged) accident? Crash statistics for Brits driving RHD cars in Spain are pretty grim, and must be similar for LHD cars in Britain. If Britain were not in the EU, there could be a complete ban on LHD vehicles in the country, as there is in Australia.
Just a thought.
I don't see what the problem is with left hand drive. I've driven lots of left hookers over the years and never had a bump, in some circumstances they can be better visibility wise than a right hand drive. Ronaldho's bump was a combination of youth and inexperience combined with high performance car and perhaps showing off. In those circumstances it doesn't matter which side the steering wheel is on. The Australian ban on LHD vehicles is ridiculous IMHO

Report in today's paper:
THE £200,000 Ferrari crunched by Cristiano Ronaldo was working ?perfectly? before the smash, say the makers.
Man U soccer ace Ron, 23, wrote off the 599 GTB Fiorano in a Manchester tunnel last month.
Three of the four ceramic brake discs had shattered.
But Ferrari said the ?brakes as well as all the other safety systems worked perfectly and were in no way associated with the cause of the accident?.
They are backed by Government vehicle examiners.
Cops are to quiz Ronaldo about alleged careless driving.
Three out of four ceramic brakes had shattered? I have got to assume that this was due to impact as opposed to through use? I am sure there must be an interesting debate going on behind the scenes here between "his people" and Ferrari. Ferrari won't want to lose him as a customer but most importantly they will not want to lose credibility for their cars....
And I wonder why a "Govt vehicle examiner" would be involved whatever they are?
Government vehicle examiners are the poor sods who may be called in to examine the debris after an accident....And retain some detachment from the grisly aspects. As well as more routine private vehicle and HGV stops. Heard of VOSA?
Yeah heard of VOSA, but not heard of them being brought in to investigate why Joe Bloggs crashed his car and walked away unscathed?
Have heard of investigations when people badly injured or killed but not a one vehicle accident into a wall?
They help the police. And other agencies where expertise is needed. The police would need to explore exactly what went on before and during the apparent loss of control. To find out, without guessing, if there is a vehicle fault, or if the driver was to blame, or a combination of factors, the police need to know. Then they can take action, or not. Without the basics, they have no basis for a decision. That someone is not injured or dead is often down to circumstances. The same event, with slightly altered factors, might have resulted in KSI. It seems this was a high energy crash - whether its down to the driver or something else, the police and VOSA need to know.
They do need to figure out what went on. If I had a crash on that section of road (at the speed limit) in my car it would not be so damaged. So perhaps something wrong with the Ferrari or not driving at the speed limit.
Luckily nobody hurt.

Forgot to change out of his mud-caked footer boots perhaps, and listening to loud music, so slow to hear the rising howl of accidentally-summoned power...
Ronaldo's mate Tevez had his Bentley impounded yesterday....
