On Autoglym website (www.autoglym.com) there is a competition to win some goodies. You had to answer what the make and models of cars are that they show. There are 5 and I know them all apart from the second, it is a Jaguar but which model?

I think S type but the pic doesn't tie up with pics on Jag website.

Any definite answers?

I am surprised the dash of the X-type and S-type are so similar and frankly I find them both >> boring.
To me there is just something very cheap about the buttons - I can't explain
I just don't 'get it'.

Yup it's a S-Type, identical to mine. Boring it isn't, in fact it's one of the best dashes in any car I've driven. Everything falls to hand & is generally a single button to press. Nowt cheap about the buttons. The S & the X dashes are quite different when you drive them.

I have recently moved to Northampton for work.

In general very happy with the place. Just about to buy a thatched cottage in the country, 10 minute commute blah blah BUT...

THE SPEED HUMPS!

They are not just your normal roll over slowly jobs most of them are the size of tank traps.

I a current driving an R reg Toledo. Nice car nothing special but it is being torn to pieces. There is NO safe speed over some of these humps. The exhaust is hanging off the tyres are shot the tracking is way out and the suspension is collapsing.

My next car must be a 4X4 just to cope and nothing smaller than a Rav4 and the tree huggers can kiss my exhaust pipe.

Drive around Northampton long enough and speed humps are only half the challenge - take a look at some of the potholes! Terrible state of some of the roads is beyond belief.
Ashok - your not supposed to race between the humps hence they are close together.
Think like a town planner!
I dont support them because I think there are better ways to stop people speeding in town, but some of the humps are very effective nonetheless.
I know someone who has successfully got new tyres paid for as a result of damage from broken down speedhumps.

Actually, the biggest problem is not so much the humps themselves but the twit driving behind you who doesnt care if they ruin THEIR car and crawl all over your back bumper because you wanna take it easy on yours.

Is there any brand new models that are heavily discounted still available?

I had a w203 in 2001 and the front tyre on the passenger side wore out quickly and MB could never fix the problem and i sold up. Is the problem still there on the last lot of 1203's?

Thank you. Read more

Thank you both.
Tracking will nearly always be out and costs 40/50 pounds.
O always buy non directional tyres, swap the from around every 6 months and then have then taken off the rims and turned around and then swap.
I read about the problems and the camber pull i got used to but throwing money away on tyres is not good.

thanks you - just hope the new c class is better

Hello, I just read and got bargain cars from this site but today seek help.

The other day going along the motorway, there are tarmac type, about inch wide lines that are rectangular in shape and about 6 foot wide. On motorways that have them, they appear about every half to one mile.

I've also noticed them by traffic lights but in a V shape - what are they please?

I assume you meant "mile" and not some novel measurement that I haven't heard of.. so I've changed it - PU Read more

If you come up to a set of lights at red and there is a car stationary near the lights, stop your car over the traffic sensing wires as far away from the lights as you can find-some traffic lights have several sets-the electronics then think the side road has a long tailback and changes in your favour.

A good half-dozen instances at the end of the Hungarian GP. But it seems to be spreading. Saw it in a book review by the Telegraph film critic Sukhdev Sandhu on Saturday.

Don't see what's wrong with it myself. We all utter cliches at least sometimes, innit? Read more

I'm considering doing a Blighty run from France for the first time in quite a while. I want to avoid the Channel Pirates if I can but a western crossing would suit me, so - does anyone have any recent experience of the ferry that replaced P and O on the Portsmouth-Le Havre route? LD Lines I think? Had a quote from them through Ferrysavers for 169 sterling for a 16-day return, which didn't seem bad.
After what happened to us last time SWMBO doesn't really fancy taking even the Prelude to the UK so I looked at car hire rates on the Ryanair site. Apparently, even with a collision damage waiver, I would still be liable for the first 550 pounds of any damage to a rental car unless I take out 'super' insurance cover. Is this the norm? Read more

This morning I filled up with BP Ultimate diesel fuel,10 minutes or so after the light that has a car with spanner in middle the engine electronics, transmission electronics immobiliser, diesel fuel filter light illuminated as has the exhaust emission light both remain on.

Is it the diesel fuel causing this, diesel is diesel right?

Will it have to be drained, fuel filter replaced, driving in this condition can destroy the catalytic converter?

Contaminated fuel or coincidence. Ultimate diesel will do no harm to a Corsa or any other road diesel.
