...Earlier this year it broke down with all the symptoms of a failed injector (Very rattly, lack of power and smoke).

A diesel injection specialist replaced one of the injectors but it broke down a few days later. Another injector was replaced but it broke down again. A few days later another breakdown and the garage replaced the final two injectors.

The car ran OK for a month or so before breaking down with the same symptoms. However, this time the fault cleared itself after being turned off and allowed to "rest". The car was taken to a main dealer who interrogated the ECU and found that a "Lift sensor failure" had been recorded. They replaced the Lift sensor and also the engine speed sensor and cleared the fault code from the ECU.

The car has since failed a further three times with the same symptoms! I'm waiting for a call back to see when the garage will be able to look at the car again.

Above taken from a 2005 post regarding similar symptoms.

Have been experiencing almost the same problems with my berlingo sounded like a football clacker going over time settled when I stopped but then started over idling for about 30-40 seconds when left to idle. Citroen say there is nothing they can do as no fault shows when connected to the computer....they have fiddled with the idling speed then she started cutting out when changing down to take corners so they changed the air filter then a injector ...and she had just had her 50 000 mile service...now they say it's not worth looking any further, they did say they would send the engine away to a diesel injection service in England- we're in Dundee Scotland- which would cost hundreds.....Is it only Citroen dealers that will be able to look at a Berlingo or would other dealers ie Peugot look into this and get a result...any help would be appreciated

For a start, don't bother with main dealers, they usually use the local fuel injection specialist when things get a bit technical.
Do any injectors have a sensor / cable attached to them ?

Hi there,

This car is a bit troublesome for me...It was the engine light last few weeks..and now engine noise.

Let me try and describe the noise and hope it make sense.

The noise is very distinctive when at idle. Normally we have a cyclic (repetitive) clatter noise during idle as you would expect from a diesel. However, there is another oscillating noise which is kind of fade in and out on top of the idling clatter noise. This noise sounds like a mechanical friction or bearing problem. Could it be timing chain/tensioner??

This problem only happens since the dealer changed the ECU to fix the engine light problem. I wonder if the new ECU is doing something funny. Or is it the car needed an oil change, its due soon...(Done 7k miles since last service).

I was wondering if anyone had any experience of this kind noise or similar noise with the engine. Or anyone had a bearing failure or mechanicla failure around 30k miles.

To be honest I'm quite annoyed with the dealer, having fixed the engine light issue they alos introduced another fault to the security light (LED). Now it keeps on flashing even when the car has started. And now the car has this strange noise.

Sorry for letting my steam out here....

Regards,

Time to report back...

The noise problem has been fixed. It was the bearings in the alternator.

However, on the way back home, the engine light came on again when I flawed the engine (3rd gear around 4000rpm).

As for the engine light issue, I am just wondering if I should take back to the dealer that fixed the engine noise issue, or take it back to the dealer that replaced the ECU in an attempt to fix the engine light problem.

was talking at work the other day...

in the 70's when the golf 1st came, it was X inchs long...in the 80's when mkII came out it was X inchs longers
in the 21st century, the golf is now X+X+X+X inchs longer(they get bigger each time)

so if this trend is consistent with each car...which it is...
AND we are buying more cars(which we are)

so far sake of an arguement the 1st mkI's as a benchmark...the mkV's are 250mm longer..using this figure for all the cars

that means 2.4 millions cars are year....24 million inchs ... 6000000000 mms 6000 kms extra a yr??(i think)

so at a guess since 1976 6000kms * 30yrs 180000kms.....i know there are loads of variables...so dont bother posting about the maths..its a summary

but on these figures(guesstimates) of 6000km extra a yr...when will we run out of roads

also as cars change every 5 to 6 yrs...does that also mean the road building should be done in 5-6 yr cycles as well?

just a thought :-)

My sons Escort 1.8TD is suddenly refusing to start. Turn the key and there is not even a click. The battery is fine. If you insert the red key the immobiliser led initially flashes rapidly followed by what I assume is a fault code. That is 3 flashes followed by 2 flashes. Does anyone know what this means? Here is a little moral dilema, in whether its ever justifiable to shaft a garage because other places have done it to you.

I once had the run around with a new Ford Fiesta in the early 1980s when they had that mechanical autochoke. It kept sticking on and the car `choking to death` from cold when it did not release. You then had to get the plugs out and wait.
service manager was terrible to deal with, refusing a new choke unit and once gripping me hard by the fingertips in a seemingly malicious handshake.

Time went by and in a couple of years it had done 60,000, it suddenly started to really chug all the time, running rich, black smoke coming out of the exhaust..

Now I was sensitised to Ford main dealers as a result of the previous episode which led to further trouble with `the trade`.

I called out the recovery service and the guy revved it so hard there was a crack and then a half engine speed tapping.
( Cam follower I think)
Anyway, due to the difficult service manager of the supplying dealer and out of warranty, I let the ( well known) recovery service guy take it to his "recommended garage"

This turned out to be a little place with three guys running it.

I authorised them to look into it, expecting carb work and a cam follower, but
had a phone call next day, they had stripped the whole engine, fitted new piston rings, big end shells... and tucked away on the big invoice was a small diaphram for the carb, which must have been the actual problem. The half engine speed tapping was still there, they said something like "It came in non running so we are not responsible"

In the end I had to pay up to get the car back.

Now I hasten to add, I was in the early stages of a difficult career and had to have a working car and I had no energy left after 12 hour days to chase it up.

Now heres the crunch, you can imagine how sick I was of the motor trade, but I had *prior to the incident* had the car valued at another Ford dealer.
This sales chap had gone on about how he was an ex Mechanic and went through the car with a fine tooth comb even test driving it prior to considering letting me part exchange it.

Well, I drove the car home from the little garage after having to give them £300 ( 1982), I then rang the salesman at the dealership saying I would go through with the deal. I didnt start it again until the day I was to to pick up the new car.

I coasted onto the forecourt with the engine off and did the deal. ( sweating a bit in case he wanted to move it before handing the new car over)

Deal done and I drove away in a new car.

Justified? You tell me..

NB, I had always done DIY, but starting out in a new career in 1980, had decided that I would let garages service and repair my cars. After this incident I reverted to doing it almost all myself, I still do so.

Regards

I have a recurring problem with both of my rear windows. On lowering then raising the windows, the vertical window seal squeeze from its channel. Both rear windows are the same, windows are electric. To date, I have had the seals replaced a few times, the regulator replaced and channel clips adjusted. Nissan main dealer is unable to come up with a cause or a solution. The car is 1998cc and year 2005. Thank you

Also I hardly used the rear windows.

I imagine that with the advent of a/c, many are *never*opened.

You may be familiar with the almost mythical skycar from Moller, well it appears they actually have something else in the pipeline.

Imagine a few of them cruising down the high st.

Not sure about the co2 though.

I'm looking at an '80's Chevrolet with a GMC 6.2 litre V8 diesel fitted. I know the earlier 5.7 diesels had a bad reputation for reliability but does anyone know what the 6.2 was like? There doesn't seem to be a lot of information out there in internetland so I thought I'd try here. It's a non-turbo BTW.
The gearbox is the 4 speed overdrive model, I believe these are pretty good, is that correct?

Thanks. Read more

My brother in law has the same engine in his mobil home I borrowed it for a holiday in France it would have been cheaper to hire a private plane with the fuel it used.

OK, mid lane hogging is crass though it is hypocritical of gov to blame users for congestion when the authourities seem bent on reducing average speeds which only serves to increase congestion.

How about:

CARPOTS - Campaign Against Re-Phasing Of Traffic Signals

CASEAARG - Campaign Against Speed Enforcment As A Revenue Generator

CFIIRIIAMEBC - Campaign For Investement In Road Infrastructure In Areas Mosts Effected By Congestion

ATEMRTRIIBITTI - Action To Ensure That Motoring Related Tax Revenue Is Invested Back Into The Transport Infrastructure

Humf. I watched that and the "Only a fool.." one. Excerpts ought to be broadcast on TV, but would unfortunately still probably only be taken into account by people if enforcement action was likely.
