So does this announcement mean it is now legal to run a diesel car on undeclared veg oil from any source? eg waste and filtered oil or normal veg oil from tesco?

My daughters K plate polo handbrake has progresively been in need of adjustment (its now at the end of its adjustment on the threaded rod at the handbrake end of the cable. This problem I thought was curred when I replaced all three cables(due to cable stretch) last year. Its had new rear brake shoes new adjuster wedges and springs-the adjusters are working.I have also checked that the drums are within their wear tolerance So Iam stumped at present as to why so much adjustment is nesessary so often. She does tend to yank the handbrake up tight a bit more than is necessary so could it be just cable stretch again? I also checked that the hole in the tunnel where the cable comes through from under the car has not deformned.
So need a few suggestions please.

>>Check the handbrake mouning bracket where it attaches to the floor pan
Hi Peter yes did that thats when I discovered the .75 mounting position differences between the two polo's, but definately secure and no exsesive wear in the ratchet mechanism yet!
Bit of a mysterm especially as its over 8 months so somethings on the move gradually.

I picked Gunther up from his first service today. While he was in, I had asked them to look at a slight stutter on accelerating, mainly through second gear.
Apparently there is an ECU update for the tdi, to correct what they called 'rough running'. This has now been done to my car, and it's like driving a totally different car! It's much smoother, and much quieter.
I wouldn't have believed one small tweak to a computer could make such a difference, but I definitely love Gunther again now!

You are right to keep mentioning how you have to have a car for a year before it goes properly.
The same thing happened to me with my wife's Focus. It was hopeless for the first year, at the first service I mentioned that it didn't go very well. Oh yes they said, there is a new chip upgrade.
I hadn't left the garage before I noticed the change for the better in the car.
I would like to know why the manufacturers either test their products properly, or recall the cars when they find out that they need a chip upgrade.
Let me see PoloGirl 19000 miles at 10 mpg less is 80 gallons, which is 364 litres @ 92p which is £335. Send the garage a bill and see what happens!
I am pleased that you now seem happy with Gunther, my wife wants a Golf, please keep us updated on his progress.
Both front tyres shot after 11k of normal/town driving by my good lady :school run and minor commuting.Owned from new. No kerbing (that ive been told of) tyre pressures maintained...drives straight
was expecting at least 25k. is 11k normal or were they fitted with cheap tyres?
shall I get the geometry done with the new tyres? Read more
My Charade is on its original tyres despite what seems unfounded reputation for fronts not lasting long yet it has 41500 miles on it. Hankooks all round.

Today the M1 was shut off from very early AM to early evening-it was obviously serious, and I hope no fatalities, fortunately for me, I wasn't in the area.
Several years ago, i went from Surrey -Birmingham--Manchester and back again.
On the way up, around 8am, there was a major accident on the M40 just south of the M42, on the way back, after 7pm, the accident still hadn't been cleared up - and I was at the back of a 2hr tortoisely slow queue.
Why is it roads in England have to be shut off for so long, too many rubberneckers, surely the scene should be partioned off, so the temptation is no longer there to look Read more
As suspected...it went the way of the other threads.
Anyone had any experience of these?
Dad's after a cheap 4x4 (couple of k to spend) and these seem quite plentiful on W/X/Y/01 plates for this kind of money with sensible miles on them.
I'm really not a fan of these kind of cars personally, but it does seem like a lot of reasonably modern looking 4x4 for the money. The 2.0 engine is I believe from the Mazda 626, but what are they like in terms of overall reliability / parts availability etc? Any views or any other suggestions welcome.
I've talked him out of an early petrol Freelander (I hope)! :-)

After a VAG flexible service should the "Distance to next service" and "Time to next service" display show pretty big numbers that slowly get smaller?
My car shows " _ _ _ " in both places.
I have asked about it and been told I have to wait till tomorrow till the computer works it out and then it will be displayed.
I thought the two values were put in on the VAG-COM Module 14 or something.
Or perhaps I look a fool and they wanted to close for the night.

I was hoping to lay my hands on a 330d but since we're now expecting a baby the budget has been somewhat shot to pieces!
I'm now looking at the recently replaced Mondeo TDCi, my price range of around 5k is keeping me to cars that have around 100k on the clock. Anything in particular to watch out for, or should I check under the sofa and see if I can stretch a bit more?
Is it a good buy with that sort of mileage?
Thanks,

My tdci has now got 124k miles under its belt.
Front discs at 50k miles
Rear discs and a caliper at 60k miles
Rear suspension at 63k miles
aircon regassed at 73k miles
new discs all round and new exhaust at 87k
handbrake lever and brake fliud change at 97k
new radiator hose at 87k
new injector pipe, handbrake cables and aircon work at 89k
aircon regassed at 94k miles
I bought her at 99k miles and changed an aircon pipe to get that working, its been fine since
since then I've put a new power steering pump and water pump on her
and a new rear brake caliper yesterday.
This is in addition to standard servicing.
Its still averaging 47mpg, better at constant speeds, worst on country lanes and trips into London
