After a VAG flexible service should the "Distance to next service" and "Time to next service" display show pretty big numbers that slowly get smaller?
My car shows " _ _ _ " in both places.
I have asked about it and been told I have to wait till tomorrow till the computer works it out and then it will be displayed.
I thought the two values were put in on the VAG-COM Module 14 or something.
Or perhaps I look a fool and they wanted to close for the night.
Advice please

I asked the same question when I had my Audi serviced. It too was showing ----. The manual will tell you how many miles it needs to do before it works again. It was 500km on mine. Aparently it is something to do with judging how you drive so it calculates the flexible distance.

I cant remember how many miles it took on my new A4 for this to initialise but it was several hundred. I am now looking at about 18700 between services.

I have done 5.5K miles since the service (only 7 weeks ago!) and the indicator has dropped to 16,900 to go - at this rate will be significantly over 20K before the next service - mileage and driving changed to 95% motorway - is it worth getting it done at bang on 20K or letting the car decide? 20K oil changes are a bit worrying never mind any more. Just for reference though, its now done 125,000 on longlife, oil only changed at services and it uses no oil so prolonged services cant be that bad!

My experience of several VaG cars says let the system do its job. I do a faif amount of motorway driving but have never got more than 20500 between services. If you are realy doing a huge amount of motorway driving with hardly any urban driving then let it go to what the computer says. Cruising along the motorway at say 2500 revs isn't thant demanding to the engine, and as long as you keep the oil topped up, you shouldn't have any problems. Many people worry about these extended service intervals, but the fact is that these new hi-tech synthetic oils are far more robust than people think. I have never had nor heard of any problems caused by these flexible service intervals, and I think you statement of 125K miles bears this out.

My golf decided it needed a service at just under 19k, but only told me that it wanted one with 1000 miles to go.

Is that a problem? you could always have asked it earlier and it would have said (for example) "next service 2,500 miles"
The touran has just demanded service, 20,500 miles from the last one.

Aha thats because you haven't asked gunther. If you know how to ask him he will tell you how many miles to the next service, but he only starts to nag you when its 1000 or less.
yes the 6th bong is -4c, and the 7th bong is driving with handbrake on, 8th bong for low oil.
