July 2007
have seen countless postings with problems on door wiring on 306's.
But anyone actually repaired 1 and know what the job is like? Are loom parts available from Peug? or from a breaker? Unlikely to be any better if so. Or is it better to make up your own part loom?

Hello all.
I am looking at replacing my 5 yr old Seat Alhambra with either new SUV (possibly the new Peugeot 4007 or Citroen C Crosser) or, alternatively getting a 2-3 yr old quality SUV such as the Tourag or XC90. I tow a caravan and need a fairly heavy tow car. If I went for the new Pug or Citroen I would need to get a loan of about £5k
The Volvo/ VW at 2-3 yrs old would mean no loan and thats probably the route I will go and i will go for 2.5l diesel but of the 2 which is better?!!
Many thanks for your help.

Cost of big caravan + big 4x4 = lots of holidays + normal car?
Dry wit much appreciated !
My diesel corsa states an engine oil spec of GM-LL-025 A3/B3/B4,am using GM-LL-025 A3/B3/B4 spec from a vauxhall dealer.
Its specs are suitable for petrol and/or diesel engines, the majority or all other oils state much the same spec & are suitable for petrol and/or diesel engines so why are there oils stating these specs but also state in bold big lettering Diesel oil?
If these modern oils cater for both engine designs and oil manufacturers develop modern oils with a spec capable of protecting all engines why state diesel on the bottle with this GM-LL-025 A3/B3/B4 specification,it will be suitable for either engine.

You didn't actually read my post did you?
I have a budget of ~£10k and am looking for a petrol family car. I will want to minimise risks by buying from a main dealer.
I have been considering a 3 year old Accord Executive saloon. I think they look great, but they don't depreciate that quickly - so I could get a brand new one for £16k - but that is outside my budget.
For the same price, though, I could get a 1 year old Mondeo to a similar high spec. I don't think the Mondeo looks quite so good and is of course much more common. But they do depreciate. It will also be easier to get the exact spec, colour etc that I want.
I do about 14k miles pa and would keep the car for about 4 years. My main criteria are good quality, reliability, fun to drive and good ride quality.
If it was a straight choice between an Accord and a Mondeo of the same age, I would go for the Accord every time. But it seems to be a much harder choice between a 1 year old Mondeo or a 3 year old Accord. Does the fact that the Mondeo is 2 years newer cancel out the advantage of the Accord?
Should be grateful for any input. Read more
Thanks for the further replies. At this stage, I think I would favour the Honda, but clearly I need to arrange some test drives.
In reply to Love-Mazda, I did think about a Mazda 6 a few years back (when they first came out). I actually regret not buying one, as I went and bought a Skoda Octavia instead, but that's a different story!
My current car has a leather interior and I'm very keen for my next car to have leather as well. Leather is standard on the Accord exec model, whereas I don't believe it is standard on any Mazda 6. So it should be much easier to find an Accord with a leather interior than a Mazda.
I've had company car for 9 years with no claims. Currently have second car insured in my name for wife and I (we share driving of both depending who is going furthest). Can I have two no claims bonuses (i.e I can get letter from company insurance of no claims for 5 years). Can I get both cars on same policy or do I have to start from scratch (zero no claims)/ put one in wifes name? Advice welcome from someone who has made switch - Thanks. Read more
(i.e I can get letter from company insurance of no claims for 5 years).

That's what I did - Liverpool Victoria (Frizzell) accepted it without any problems - I think their NCB goes to nine years, so get a letter for the whole 9 years you've been accident free. One company I got a quote from did hum and harr about it, but I was happy with Frizzell anyway.
Can I get both cars on same policy
>>
Might be worth looking at - I know Admiral do this, and there's a multi-car policy link on this site.
do I have to start from scratch
>>
No - even if the above two routes failed for some reason, most companies give a significant introductory discount.
I have company 2.2l diesel accord. From October will buy my own car. I went to look at a new diesel accord and compare with Mazda 6 (better price, not quite so refined). Both dealers offered me better deals on 2 litre petrol models. Obviously cost more in petrol, about £400/yr for me but about £3k cheaper to buy. Have I missed something because for private driver doing about 10k miles petrol looks better deal.

Do Subaru still dominate in terms of relaibility.
If I read the CBCB - it suggest not.
From The Sun today,
FURIOUS drivers of new Vauxhall Vectras have blasted the car giant - claiming duff handbrakes have caused a spate of smashes involving runaway vehicles.
One owner was dragged 15 yards down his driveway before his car came to a halt.
Graham Cadwallader, of Derbyshire, said: "I was getting something off the back seat when I heard the handbrake click and release. By sheer luck I was not killed."
Fellow owner Barry Lord told how his Vectra, hooked to a caravan, rolled towards a cliff edge with his wife in the car.
She was only saved by the caravan's own brake.
Consumer magazine Which?, which has a dossier of more than a dozen cases, says the problem also affects the Signum model.
Signum owner Rhys Davies saw his car roll into a neighbour's BMW and write if off.
He said: "Vauxhall needs to acknowledge this problem to ensure it doesn't happen to others."
Vauxhall said it was "aware" of the allegations but insisted the handbrakes had been examined by Government car safety watchdogs and passed all tests.
The firm is now writing to all Vectra and Signum owners to remind them how to apply the handbrake properly.

Ever since I got my first Saab (1975) I had no option but to put the car in reverse to get the ignition key out. As a result, every car I've had since gets left in gear as well as having the handbrake on.
The problem is simply down to heavy braking which heats up the disc pads, which cool once the handbrake is on so retract just enough to free the wheel.
But this botton nonsense is.... dangerous nonsense - how on earth did GM get type / safety approval?
How do I replace the ATF on my 53 golf automatic 1.6 transmission type 01m there is no dipstick filler plug or level plug I think everything is done via the drain plug do I need any special tools.
Thanks, Maltrap

As the holidays season is soon upon us,
Quick tip, if anyone is flying out of Luton Airport and leaving their car at one of the long term parking that is available, then think about using Luton Airport Parkway Rail Station 7days parking there was £20.70 the last time I used it ( a few eeks ago), free bus to airport, runs about every 20mins during day, and this carpark has full CCTV and is patrolled.
Daily is £4.60 which again I think can't be beaten by short to mid stay rate ?
Dont' think you will beat that, even leaving your car in a field to be molested

Blimey,
Mind you 2 years ago I paid £15 at 2 in the morning.
On the subject of 'they know you are away'. This exact thing happened to a mate of mine. We took a minicab to meet a coach at J11 and that night his house got done over. If I ever have to take a mincab, I will always meet it a the end of the road .

I am currently taking the upper timing chain case of my E34 535. Now every manual I read tells me to take my distributor off, then my rotor arm and then follow up with the black cap that sits behind these two components.
However in every diagram, this ?black cap? just lifts over the rotor arm mounting, except on my rotor arm cap, the hole is too small to fit over the rotor arm mounting. How do I remove it? There is an alley key bolt in the centre of the shaft but that is going nowhere.
Any tips on getting this shifted? Thanks

funnily enough ive just finished repairing another one this afternoon, ive done loads before. ive never used a replacement loom from peugeot think there overpriced, i just wire in a new section of wire for each wire thus both repairing and extending the loom to prevent future breakages.
take the door off is easiest, i then cut and solder each wire one at a time adding about a 5cm length of wire in. also, check the continuity of the wires both sides of the loom with a meter before soldering to check there not broke in the connector. the wires i have had broke in the connector ive just ran a new wire outside of the connector to the right wire on the inside of the door and then cable tied it to the connector once finished.
worst ive seen had 5 broken wires in it, of which the two small white ones wrisere broke so had to do some testing before joining them.
all in all quite a simple job if you can use a soldering iron and work in a logical manor
