Insurance due soon, went onto one of the 'everything cheaper' websites and managed to get a quote £60 cheaper than my current one, with an insurance company called AXA via swiftcover. Has anyone got had any great experience using these two, note I say great as not to fall foul of any censors 8-)
Also thinking of buying a sat nav, do not want to spend a fortune as I do about 7K private and about 3K work miles. Really wanted as the missus and kids are of to the South of France for the summer and has said she wold like to travel around a bit so has suggested SatNav, any recommendations to include 'safety Camera Alerts'

There's a place called BBC Spares in Hertfordshire that specialises in Townace - have you tried them?

Hello All I would like your views on if and when to have changed the timing belt and associated bits on my 2000 golf mk4 1.6 105bhp.
Its done 38k miles from new and I have done 13 k of that in long runs in a year since i bought it.
So whilst its not at 60k and wont be for years which i think is the normal belt time.
I am asking if at 7 years old it should be done just because of the time factor!
Also can anyone suggest a good value place to have the work done in the york leeds area......
thanks

Change the cam belt due to its age not miles,if you dont do many miles as because the cam belt made of rubber, it will deteriate over time as they warm up and cool. Sound excessive but its going to be cheaper than a snapped belt. I dont do many miles in my golf, but was advised to change the belt and rollers around the 5 yr mark.
At great expense, and considerable disruption, on an already busy section, the new concrete barriers on the central reservation to the M60 to the SE of Manchester are now complete.
On a recent trip to Plymouth, I noticed several new installations of this type at various locations.
Does anyone know the reasoning behind this new idea?
Running through my head is the possibility that time and expense of Armco repairs will be eased, but I would have thought that considerably larger costs will result in vehicle damage, and I worry about increased passenger injury and death.
I thought that the advantages of Armco were its low cost, and softer collision response.
Anyone know Anything?

as i said, not a good idea to hit concrete barrier at 90degrees.

I am refering to the sections of Armco that are on the side dual carriageways and motorways that stop you dropping off bridges or into railwaylines that are below the carriage way.
They used to start with a lump of concrete in the ground, slope up to the usual operating height go along till the hazard has passed then slope down into another lump of concrete.
But recently (well, the last couple of months) I have noticed that instead of starting from the ground, they are starting at the operatring height with a board with orange stripes to tell you its there.
Surely and coming together with a car is going to be worse that with the slopey start?
A friend said that maybe they are cusioned with a crumple zone, but on closer inspection whilst flying past, they look like a flat board.
Anyone know the reasoning behind it?

(Sorry mods don't know how to shorten)
That one isn't overly long. There is however a Sticky at the top of this page called "TinyURL Shortcut Link" which will shorten a weblink for you, and all you then need to do is paste the shortened link.

Not sure how they managed to bring a crane in and a couple of lorries to dismantle 10 presses with no one noticing.
The police comment made me smile - " Anyone who has been offered large amounts of metal alloy for sale in suspicious circumstances is being urged to call police. "
Not the sort of thing you get offered from the man in the pub

My Mate's Laguna was serviced recently - after (a day?) the ESP light starts flashing (never done this before).
His tyres needed rebalancing and he had this done 2 weeks after the service at a fast fit type centre, but the light is still on. (Although not saying this is the only cause)
Will the ESP light go if the fault is corrected or once on, does it need a dealer to turn it off?
Could something done during the service (1yr service / 38k) cause the light to come on?

FiL's Scenic (2006 on a P plate) did the same thing in May and when he took it to the dealer was told that as the car was manufactured in May 2006, the computer was automatically flagging up that an inspection was required at 12 months. Might be something similar?
It's my wife's birthday today, I have bought her a pair of Bosch Aerotwin wiper blades, from wiperblades.co.uk, for her Focus.
I have driven the car in the rain, when has it been dry recently, and they are very good. I can't understand why she is so cross with me!
I have got to get her a dock thing for her new ipod, whatever that is, she says. Read more
About 20 years ago I bought my first wife a set of hubcaps for her Fiat Panda to mark the occasion of her birthday. Not too bad an investment as they may well have added to the assessed value of her car when it came to splitting the assets ! Bought current wife a whole car for her birthday three years ago but she still won't go ! ;-)
( hubcaps do look a bit tatty now mind ! ) Christmas is a'comin' ! Whoops so's the wife ..... Bye !

I think your friend did very badly out of that deal.
