Hi all,
Is it normal after advertising a car to only get one call in 4 days? I priced it as one of the lowest on there (but not the very lowest). I've just spent over £1000 on servicing too which I detailed in the ad. It's a 2002 51 plate Golf GTi 1.8T, superchipped to 180BHP. Maybe I shouldn't mention the chip - although it is the same one VW offer officially through their dealers. The car has 66k miles and FVWSH. I cleaned it up a treat for photos and took them with care, the road I live in looks pleasant etc - yet no calls. Should I lower the price or is it too soon? I'm not in a hurry to sell, but should I accept that 1 calls in 4 days = price too high?

I've always found eBay motors the esbt way to sell a car (have tried Autotrader and local free paper).

Wasn't there a report on here a month or so back about how cars being sold on eBay are going for more than the book price so it's a good place to sell but a bad place ot buy?

I've sold 4 cars on eBay varying between £400 and £5000 succesfully.

Always make sure that you agree a price before the auction ends, so that you can end the auction early and avoid the final selling fee that eBay put on the ad.

Have a female friend who just commutes locally. She does not venture out of town or on motorway. Her annual mileage is less than 4k.

Looking for a reliable but cheap breakdown cover. Looking for prices for -

1. Cover that transports her and her car to her destination or home.

2. Cover that covers the above and also home start.

Was wondering if there will be a cheaper supplier for her. She is the only driver in the household.

thanks in advance Read more

Another vote for autoaid. A good service.

Our favorite car at last given us grieve!! The engine light is lighting up. We don't seem to experience any engine performance degradation. We have booked in to the local dealer to diagnose and possible fix.

We're speculating that its the oxygen sensor is causing the problem. Would this cause loss of engine performance? Could the oxygen sensor be damaged by using additives such as Redxx? We might have put too much in the fuel. Normally we only put 1/3 of the bottle into a full tank of diesel. However, last week we put in 1/2 bottle.

Any thoughts please? Read more

Thanks for the response.

The reason we put the injectors cleaner additives, because we do a fait amount of mileage - thinking that it might clog up the injectors. We do about 20k miles a year.

We will not mention the additives we have put in the fuel to the dealer since its still under warantee. We will report back soon when its sorted out.. By the way, the car is definately made in in Japan.

Regards,

Perfect.

Rare and, I thought, sought after cars, these.

So, imagine my surprise when I saw a red one on the back of a scrap lorry at the Shepherds Bush roundabout last night, presumably on the way to the giant recycling centre in nearby Scrubs Lane. It and the other cars had the air of previously impounded cars that were unclaimed and were being scrapped by the council.

I worry that the owner knew nothing about it. Do councils ever check that cars haven't been reported stolen before they crush them, I wonder? And if not, I wonder what recourse an owner might have against said council? Read more

There are certainly stories around of people coming back from holiday and finding their car has been crushed.

Ok well given all this rain.

Clio Mk1 with the factory fit manual tilt/slide sun roof. Its leaking into the car. Now i assume its because the drain tubes are blocked, but i can't find them. Are there any?

definately sure it's the sunroof? they quite often leak in around the aeriel in front of sunroof as there not sealed from the factory, this is this the usual cause of remote central locking problems aswell.

not sure where the drain pipes are but ill be very suprised if there aren't any. have you tried openingit fully on slide and having a good look around the edges?

New windscreen and side mouldings fitted to the Toledo (£190), windscreen place said the previous job was a mess so thinking "Great, leak will be sorted now", stayed dry parked outside in the rain on the flat, go out to it this morning parked nose up in the driveway and a wet passenger footwell.

Fix some strips of newspaper around the footwell carpet just below the doorshut and then again about 3 or 4 inches further up.

The wetspots will tell you where it's coming from.

Yes, I see now, sorry. I was reading the CO2 figure as a permitted concentration, as when cars are stopped for a roadside check or at the MOT. Km not Kl.

I currently have an estate 406 HDI and need more space.
I do high milage and long distance driving so economy is important.

Would the drag caused by a roof box give lower mileage than say an MPV.
My idea would be to take the seats out of an MPV and use it as a van when I need to move stuff.
The items to move are not large but its more the quantity that needs to be moved.
Also does anyone know if you can get protectors for the rear windows on a MPV ( ie replace the panels like a van).

I would like cruise control, climate control and use also for passengers so I think this rules out a van.

I wonder if his school work will be affected?
I hope he doesn't start driving his Dad's car behind his back lol!

I have a problem that the local garage cannot fix. Sometime on first starting up there is a grumbling noise which sounds like the starter motor but is not ,when it finally starts I end up with a trail of whitish smoke which finally burns off (Fuel??)
The car runs great ,does not use oil and once started no problems.
When putting the foot down or the need for more power is required then the "engine"warning light comes on but goes off after a while.Any help would be appreciated.
