on my 306 the boot cover is a flimsy fold up cover that isnt great
I was wondering if it would be possible to swap it for one that folds in its self ie. like a spring loaded type that the 406 etc have?
I know theres non made for a 306 but wondered if theres any companies that make them or any other cars that may fit?
It might seem daft but its forever falling down and gets really annoying.
Any suggestions appreciated Read more

hi iv got a corsa 1.7 diesel iv been havin problams with it not chargin iv put a brand new battery on it and also a new recondition alternator and it still wont hold its charge what is my problam any ideas, thankx messa. Read more
some of these have a charge relay in the drivers side kick panel, which can cause problems, there was also an issue with the drivers side bonnet hinge rubbing the harness for a set of fuses you could check these, is the alternator actually chargeing and what are the figures, it may not be an alternator issue or battery issue it maybe some thing draining the battery over a period of time first check is how much the alternator is chargeing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Skimming, porting and polishing heads, enlarging inlet valves, putting in various sorts of better camshaft and so on, not to mention all the special manifolds, exhausts, carburettors etc., used to be a thriving aftermarket industry which seems to have disappeared anyway for current cars. The normal way to tweak a modern car seems to be to alter the fuelling and ignition timing by 'chipping' it.
Is there nothing to be gained by, for example, grinding the sharp edges off the sealing face of the inlet valves - profiling is it? - and slightly enlarging inlet tracts and ports, or has modern computerised design and manufacturing made everything so perfect that only immense expense will improve engines much?
Very hot engines used to be thirsty and I suppose extra polluting. I suppose it is because of emission regulations that this sort of thing isn't done any more. But does anyone know of a firm that fettles engines in a mechanical way, not just by chipping, without charging more than the cost of a new engine? I have been wondering about this for some time. Cars and Car Conversions, an old favourite of mine, doesn't seem to exist these days. Read more
There are even kit ECUs like the Megasquirt you can build yourself and modify the map on your
home computer.
.....Then take it for a blast down the road and "blow it" in more ways than one....?
Have you any idea how much money I've made from sorting out the hapless victims of the "Chippers?"
My coupe has frameless doors. My car has recently developed a small squeak where the top corner of the window presses against the window rubber. It's not a major problem (in fact nobody else can hear it) but I hate even the smallest noise and it's right by my ear.
So, what remedy can I use to stop it. I'm sure there's a potion/concoction suitable that will not lead to be grease stains on the glass, nor melt the rubber. :) Read more

It's a bit late now, after all this revving and Italian tuning, but I presume the oil light went out promptly when you first started it, and stays out?
If i wanted to use the services of a mobile mechanic, would I have to take the car off a public highway or are they allowed to work on the street? Read more
Used one to service my wifes Escort over the winter. Was sceptical initially, but started thinking about it.
Realised he would need to rely on word of mouth as had no premises to attract passing trade. Thought this was pretty sound reasoning, and wa rewarded with a very good service and a lot cheaper than the local garages for my wifes Escort. Only problem is we've lost his contact details now, so will need to hunt for them as will definitely use again.
Hi all,
Has anybody heard about this new engine 1.2 Turbo petrol engine from Renault, which will used in the Clio & possibly the new Twingo?
A salesman told me the other day it has the power of the 1.6, the torque of the 1.4 but with the economy of the 1.2 engine!
Now that sounds like a really good engine very impressive, similar technology to VAG's 1.4 turbo, but will the long-term reliability suffer packing in around 100 bhp in a 1.2 engine?

Hi I have a 56 plate Hyundai Tucson with 8000 miles . Had it from new . I have noticed on at least 5 occasions that blue smoke has been coming from the exhaust . Engine normal temperature . the last occasion was yesterday on the motorway . Aftre about 20 miles i noticed blue smoke through my rear view mirror , it got thicker and thicker until after a further 5 miles i had to stop . No increase in temperature but thier was a slight burning smell ,which i pressume must have been oil because of the blue smoke. Switched the engine off and left to cool and settle for a couple of minutes . checked oil level , reads half way on dip stick . Topped oil up and then restarted engine . After running for a minute all traces of blue smoke gone and i was on my way again with no further problems . This is typical of what has happened previously ......... Any ideas anybody Read more
Hi
Blue smoke again had to stop on hard shoulder. switched engine off for 1 minute . Restarted and re jioned motorway immediately blue smoke went away and i continued a furthe 30 without any blue smoke
I know i keep going on about this but the car is booked back into the garage on tuesday and i want to go back to them without some ideas because i dont think they have got a clue.

Apparently they have a tendancy to warp their discs but aside from that, ive not heard much bad about them. Generally, they are unloved because as new cars, they werent up to the same level as the Merc/BMW they were aimed at. I also recall the ride not being super supple like it should on such a big car. They are however silly cheap as used cars and viewed on their own, not that bad at all.
If you dont care for image or ultimate handling prowess, they are quite a good proposition although FSH on a used one is surely a must what with all the complicated bits these cars have.
