Has anybody heard about this new engine 1.2 Turbo petrol engine from Renault, which will used in the Clio & possibly the new Twingo?
A salesman told me the other day it has the power of the 1.6, the torque of the 1.4 but with the economy of the 1.2 engine!
Now that sounds like a really good engine very impressive, similar technology to VAG's 1.4 turbo, but will the long-term reliability suffer packing in around 100 bhp in a 1.2 engine?

And i suspect the power or torque wont be linear, but in peaks and troughs. Ie driveability goes out the window.

Not if people use their brains and follow the service schedule, use the correct oil, don't just top up when the warning light comes on.
That'll be a yes then.
They should just look at the confusion around the PD engines to see that your average UK motorist is either not interested or just stupid.

Thanks to the green lobby this is going to be seen more and more with the new FIAT Brava or is it Bravo ? having just one engine choice of 1.4 litres in different states of tune so they can drop the CO2 rating and still provide upto 148bhp.
Most turbos with correct maintenance and a little thought will give six figure mileages before any trouble. Long after the first buyer has got bored and moved on.
You want cubes ? Put a washing machine motor in your V8 and you're exempt from London's congestion charge.
