My Toledo windscreen is still leaking - mss1tw
New windscreen and side mouldings fitted to the Toledo (£190), windscreen place said the previous job was a mess so thinking "Great, leak will be sorted now", stayed dry parked outside in the rain on the flat, go out to it this morning parked nose up in the driveway and a wet passenger footwell.

For sale: One SEAT Toledo TDI...it broke me... :o(

Could be coming in somewhere else, are there any vents in front of the screen, had the same problem with a Mitsubishi Galant where it was creeping in through a seam behind a vent where the sealant had perished and cracked.

How old is your SEAT? I had a Leon new in 2000 and I had water in both footwells. The dealer had the dash out twice. Nothing worked, then word trickled through from SEAT HQ that front doors had not been sealed properly. In the car went, seals applied, trouble over and car dry from then on.
I give up - mss1tw
Hi mlj, yes the doors leak too! But this leak is coming through for somewhere behind the dash, it drips down from under the glove box area.

mal: Yes the dashboard out is what worries me!

Shame as I'm very much satisfied with it in other areas.

I assume by paying to have the windscreen replaced it was not damaged and was an attempt to cure the leak!. Was that on advice from some one else?.
I give up - mss1tw
Yeah it was suggested by various sites/people...Unfortunately the process of elimination is sometimes costly and in this case...still a process.

Leaking cars will be like leaking roofs the leak will not necessarily be directly below where it is coming in, you say the glove compartment, could it not be working it's way down from the passenger door seals to that area.

Hmmmm...interesting point. I hadn't thought of that. I don't know enough about the design of this VAG platform to comment though.

Can one of our resident geniuses say if this is likely?

There's a known problem with SEAT Leon's leaking as you describe because of something to do with the pollen filter - so I imagine the same must be possible on the Toledo. Try googling Leon Pollen Filter Leak or have a look at tinyurl.com/yqefrn

I think the pollen filter is sorted, but it's hard to know. It's such an utterly useless design I wouldn't want to say one way or another.

I silicone sealed it and replaced the pollen filter housing. Pouring water into that area didn't result in any leaks from between the chassis and the PF housing anyway.

My money is still on the doors. SEAT were convinced the water was coming from behind the dash on my Leon. It wasn't.

Might be stating the bleeding obvious here but have you called in and had a word with the service manager in your local dealers ?.

Certainly have, nothing new to report there. Dashboard out job before they can even start investigating properly apparently.

I 've read in various places that the door seals leak on Seats just like the old MK2 Golf problem, which plagued me for years. I suggest taking the door trims off and having a good look. Rather than assuming the new windscreen is leaking (which should be less likely, if a decent job has been done), I would consider that area eliminated and look elsewhere.

Have you got a sunroof? A common fault with MkIV Golfs is that the drain holes become full of gunge and cause interior leaks.
The pollen filter housing is another common point for leaks, but you appear to have checked that one.

Good Luck

Paul

i was just going to put sunroof after reading all the posts but oldgolfer got there first
if it is these then sometimes they can be cleared by long thin welding rods poked down then copious amounts of clear water down the holes

Nope deliberately bought one without a sunroof (Well worth it then...)

Are you taking the pink fluffy dice, Stuart?? :-)

Seriously, though, water leaks into the cabin can be a very demoralising issue - makes you feel like you're driving a 20 year-old banger.

All I can suggest is stripping out all affected carpets and trim and applying talcum powder to suspect areas (thoroughly dried, of course).

As others have said, the water can take a very circuitous route, and the dashboard is full of suitable conduits.....

Good luck, and try not to despair :-)

>>Are you taking the pink fluffy dice, Stuart?? :-)>>

I did use the expression in the past tense - but it was common as the leak's route could often be traced.

Cars were built somewhat differently in earlier times...:-)

I'm sorry to hear you've still got your leak. you say it's coming in underneath the Glovebox compartment. That was the same symptom I had with my Bora and cured when the windscreen was replaced.

Actually, it does rather sound like the battery drain hole problem with Passat's, particularly when you mentioned it being parked nose up in the driveway, but dry when on the flat. Where is your battery in the Toledo? Can you remove it and check for blocked drain holes?

I have it booked in at a garage today and they mentioned the 'plenum chamber' which on the Passats I believe is near the battery and windscreen however on my car the battery is near the front of the engine bay.

Hopefully they will see something though!

Already mentioned by others, but I had a previous version Toledo (2001 Y Reg) and the only thing I ever had wrong with it was a leak exactly as you describe. It started on the first wet day we had after a service and was indeed related to the pollen filter - the dealer apparently said that it was a nightmare to fit, and when it was corrected the problem disappeared.

In fact, it happened on wo consecutive services, and in the end I told them to stop fitting Pollen filters at subsequent services, as no-one in my family has any kind of hay fever or related problem anyway, and changing it was becoming more problem than it was worth.

Just had persistent, and annoying water leak on Audi A6. Cleared plenum chamber (under battery) as drain holes were blocked: no joy. Changed pollen filter housing: no joy. Cleared AC evaporator drain (tricky: involved removing glove box and lifting heavily sound insulated carpet); success! I was convinced it was the wet weather, but, of course, when there's that much moisture in the air the a/c is working overtime to dry it. I presume your car has a/c: do you still get a wet patch under the car from a/c drain when you've been running it? Given it's a VAG car, it probably has the same routing through the passenger footwell... just a thought

Daft as this sounds (well it is another Billy post!) dont overlook the obvious.
After stripping out front passenger carpets, spending hours upside down head-under passenger side dash, peering and squinting into the gloom, trying to check heater hoses, trying to detect and cure exact same type of leak as yours, I eventually detected a cross-threaded bottle of aqua-minrali, left by "she who shall be blameless" in the glove locker.

:^D Heh, sounds about right Billy.

I think I will take it to SEAT and get them to double-check all the pollen filter components are in place (You've never seen such an utter shambles to keep water out, non VAG owners.)

Then I think it might be eBay time if that doesn't work.

Fix some strips of newspaper around the footwell carpet just below the doorshut and then again about 3 or 4 inches further up.

The wetspots will tell you where it's coming from.
