Yaris Diesel Engine Light - Perfection
Our favorite car at last given us grieve!! The engine light is lighting up. We don't seem to experience any engine performance degradation. We have booked in to the local dealer to diagnose and possible fix.

We're speculating that its the oxygen sensor is causing the problem. Would this cause loss of engine performance? Could the oxygen sensor be damaged by using additives such as Redxx? We might have put too much in the fuel. Normally we only put 1/3 of the bottle into a full tank of diesel. However, last week we put in 1/2 bottle.

Any thoughts please?

Given its a Diesel then I doubt its the O2 sensor..........

Impossible to say what it is - there's lots of possibilities. However I think you will find that Toyota (along with almost all other manufacturers) caution against the use of fuel additives. Why on Earth people persist with this stuff amazes me. If the car is under warranty then I would not mention the 1/2 bottle of Redex!

Like Aprilia says stay stum about any addatives, car manufacturers spend millions fine tuning the ECU programs and getting the valve engineering correct and then somebody comes along and pours a can of rubbish in the tank and defeats all the hard work.

The diesel Yaris has been acting up and the dealers are baffled. As the latest Yaris cars are made in France, could it be that the curse of the Renault diesel (which accounts for so many posts on HJ) strikes again?

I think you may find Yaris diesels are made in Japan. Mine was...

I suspect the OP has coated the various engine sensors with carp....redex was used by my father in prewar cars .. and it was carp then imo cos the postwar cars he then used it on lasted no longer than their contemporaries...

As for adding it to a modern CR diesel!!!...:-(((

Thanks for the response.

The reason we put the injectors cleaner additives, because we do a fait amount of mileage - thinking that it might clog up the injectors. We do about 20k miles a year.

We will not mention the additives we have put in the fuel to the dealer since its still under warantee. We will report back soon when its sorted out.. By the way, the car is definately made in in Japan.

Perfect.
