Not everyone's cup of tea I know, but has anyone got any thoughts about the new C5.

Not sure I should be posting the above link - feel free to remove it mods if not.
(That's okay, Mile Muncher, because I don't have the pic. HJ)
However, as a current shape C5 owner who actually rather likes his car, all the multitude of boys toys that come with it, as well as the sublime comfort on my many long motorway trips, I must say I am impressed with the external style update.
Anyone got any sneek previews of the internal styling. It's not due to be officially unveiled until September.

Guy across the road had gone away for a couple of weeks and left his sunroof up. Anything I can do to close it? If the rain's vertical it should be OK, but bearing in mind the current weather I can see his upholstery getting wet. Read more
Cling film stretched across from gutter to gutter several times? Or better still, if you know anyone who works in a supermarket or warehouse, pallet wrap?

Don't think it's been mentioned yet, but it's this week, Wednesday evening.
If anyone isn't familiar, it's a pleasent FREE evening out, walking around some cherished & rare old motors, in Harpenden Herts. But ALWAYS loads of interest, so best park away from the venue, as much as possible.

OK - Question for Gareth - I had a look on the MSN photo's - so which is your VW of the five shown?
Mine is Herbie - actually a late '60s racer style with Porche 356 drum brakes, decambered swing axles, camber compensator, high ratio gearbox, balanced crankshaft, rods & pistons, high lift camshaft and a couple of twin Weber carbs. Pretty modest for a hot VW but it's lighter than a Lotus Elise....
I imported it from Sweden where cars seem to last 20 years longer (just because they don't salt the roads?) and built it up over a year, including welding in an original sunroof section.
As most of you would know here, I'm thinking of replacing my Volvo S40. I just want to get your opinions/comments on 1.7DTi engine in Astras. A friend of mine has told me you've to remove the engine mounts before you could change the drive belt on it and he's told me they're hated by the mechanics. I would like to get your expert opinions and in particular if someone has got one of these would love to hear from them tool. Many Thanks Read more
i regularly drive Astra's at work............the older 2.0 diesel was fine, good for what it is and reasonably swift......
the 1.7 i find unacceptably flat and has to be worked hard for no real gain...
Hi All on yet another wet saturday night. Right, Sadly my father has recently died (84 bless him) any-way, kindly he has left me his car. I already have a car and cannot decide which one to keep, and which one to sell. (My dad would not bothered either way)
The car from my dad is
TOYOTA YARIS VERSO T SPRIT D4-D. 1.4 DIESEL. REG 16/8/2003 ON A 03 PLATE.
It is one owner from new(my dad) done 49,170 miles with full toyota main dealer service history.(from where my dad bought it from). It has a full m.o.t, 5 service stamps in the book. The last service being done by toyota 2 weeks ago.
It is a nice metalic blue. Manual 5 speed box. What is this worth if I sell it private?
My other car is a ford ka, 2003 reg, 03. It has covered just 16,000 miles from new with 2 prev elderly lady owners(both sisters) It is metalic black, fully stamped ford service history, just been serviced again by ford main dealers. My Questions is: Which one would I be better keeping, and which one should I sell, If its the toyota, What do you think I will get for it. Many Thanks for any advice, Graham.

Hi
Following the eBay thread of the Peugeot 505 Dangle 4x4, on the Dangel website they are currently producing the Berlingo as a 4x4. The promo video's here (I think quite impressive...)
tinyurl.com/2anju6
Comes with a 1.6litre 90bhp turbo diesel engine. The 'Performance' version comes with a front and rear limited slip dif.
Price's between £3,800 and £4,700 on top of the price on a new Berlingo.

My mistake, it looked like a Berlingo in the video. Reading their website they do the conversion on both the Berlingo and the Partner so I guess they're pretty much identical cars.

I met a friend of mine this lunchtime and he casually mentioned that his coolant was low and needed topping up.I cannot remember ever having to top up coolant in my own vehicles, but he was told by a lady in a car accessory shop to top up with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze & water.
My friend says there is nothing in his vehicle handbook to say what coolant should be used, but surely not this antifreeze mix?
He drives an 04 Subaru Forester 2.0X.
Any advice please.

Thank you Aprilia, I have passed the message on.
They have a 240 mile drive down to Pembroke today on holiday, so I hope the coolant loss is not major....the vehicle has done 40k and I am told that the coolant change was carried out at the last service.
Thought I'd just pass on a brilliant motoring tip that is so simple and brilliantly effective.
I was a passenger in a mates car last night and I opened the glove box (like you do in a friends car). Inside was a 'unused paint' brush.
Apparently my friend uses this to clean the dashboard nooks and crannies, you know all those recesses around buttons, around the radio, in the centre console, difficult to reach places and in particular air vents. All that nasty dust and grime that builds up over time.
Now I tried this out this morning and it's sooo effective! Much better than a damp cloth or those awful fake shine sprays and only takes seconds.
Now why didn't I think of this before?
Like all good ideas.. cheap, simple, effective.
...and it actually works!

another good dash cleaner is the big ball of Blutack (sp? it is called prestik here!) rolled around picking up the dust, dandruff and general scurve on the plastic, and can be 'squished' into hard-to-reach corners.
This ensures that all the dust doesn't just re-enter the air, and get redeposited somewhere else a few minutes later
BUT never use it on a hot day, as it tends to become stringy when it gets in touch with warm plastic.
Rolled across the keyboard keys, it also picks up a fair amount of gunk.
I'm about to buy 4 tyres for my car but i don't know where the best place to go is or what to get.
I've looked on my tyres and found some real good prices but when I've phoned around for fitting, garages are wanting £20 per wheel because they don't like not supplying the tyre
My tyres are 195/55/15 and the brands I'm looking at are
Michelin pilot primacy
Bridgestone potenza
vredestein sportract 3
contenental premium contact 2
any advice or opinions on these would be appreciated
I was wondering if anyone knew when Costco would have sale on the Michelin pilot primacy as there price is £72 at the min.

Well I'm sorry to disappoint you, but my 'alive with technology' C4 has been 100% reliable so far.
But I must say I like the look of the new C5, especially the new 'stealth' bodywork they have gone for. Does this mean those dreaded speed cameras won't pick it up??
