Hi, I am new to the site, but am looking to take out either a blue or silver BCA card. I will only be buying about six cars a year max.
Will either of these cards gain me any advantage, or cost saving in terms of buyers premium etc? Any advice would be most welcome. Read more

Interesting that people seem to ignore red traffic lights with impunity these days and yet if these same people meet a set of lights that are out of order then chaos ensues,it seems that 90% of the population do indeed need nannying to the point of cradle to grave if they cant use common sense and can gridlock a town on a quiet sunday afternoon because they dont know how to cope with a simple set of broken ones
what happened to those nice policemen with their white gloves as well? all retired now i guess Read more

Seems one or two places have done precisely that , and - surprise, surprise - traffic flows more smoothly and there are now no accidents.

Not a car Q. but I know there are a lot of clever people on here so........

I replaced all my warning lights on the dash on my '98 Africa Twin with LED's today.

Anyway. They all work, very well too, excpet that the indicator flasher relay seems to swap the current flow direction to the dashboard bulb depending on what way you indicate!!!

So with a normal bulb, no problem, but with the LED it only blinks when you indicate left (Or right depending what way round!)

Yes I found this out once the screen, dash and upper cowling were back together.

I guess a 12v flasher relay is a pretty generic item apart from the shape so anyone know where you can get one that just flashes the dashboard light without messing about with current flow?! Also there were a couple of wires cut on it but all the bulbs work and always have done so....

I assume the fast-paced world of blinky wee lights has moved on in this area of course. ;o)

My 1999 Rover 414, 47k miles, not driven particularly had has developed an intermittent whistle / screech. It comes from the front offside when going around a bend at 30 to 40 mph ish. The front brake pads were changed 10k miles ago (11 months ago). Could it be a wheel bearing on the way out? The car was my fathers so everything is original except the tyres, exhaust & front pads. Sounds like it could be the metal shim that fits between the calliper and the pad, it could be catching on the disc.

just been out for a sunday afternoon thrash,
and have seen about 6 cars with Bikes strapped to the back.ALL the lights and Rear windows were almost completely covered by the bikes that they were carrying.
These racks are for sale in Halfords and other car shops,,,are they legal?? i was under the assumption that we drivers are not allowed to cover our lights??So how is it that these shops are allowed to sell bike racks that cover the lights and indicators??

i could understand these racks covering the rear windscreen, but surely not be allowed to cover the rear lights and bumper??

And if they cover the lights etc, isnt it bad that most of them had kids in the back?? brake lights covered..rear shunts???

Having learned to drive before the days of brake lights I don't rely on them to tell me when a car in front is braking. Provided you're not too close behind and provided you're as alert as you should be then brake lights are not necessary.

Hi,

I have a 52 plate Nissan Almera Tino. Good reliable mini-MPV purchased 18 months ago for £6k (36,000 miles on the clock then).

I re-programmed the locking system for a replacement key fob.

Somehow, I've switched off the anti-hijack feature, i.e. the driver's door unlocking on one plip, the remaining doors opening on the second plip. All doors open on the first plip.

Can anyone advise me how to switch the anti-hijack feature back on?

Thanks.

The remote fob for my car (Honda) has broken i.e the plastic round where the key ring goes has snapped so it's no longer attached to the key. I've tried gluing it back together for the time being but I wonder if it's possible to get a new case for it or is it likely to be a new one from the dealer which I would imagine isn't cheap!
Thanks

I haven't removed Passat seats, but I would imagine it will be something like this.

Lift out the base, pull up att he front edge to release from some clips and lift out of the car.

This will expose some bolts at the bottom of the back section, undo these and lift the seat back up off some hook type retainers.

I can''t remember the last time that I topped a car's anti-freeze up so what do I use please?

I bought a small bottle of blue stuff from Tesco today but note that the liquid in both my wife's Punto and my Passat is reddy-brown.

The description of what should be used per my wife's car's handbook is similar apart from it tells me to use red anti-freeze.

Am I safe to use the Tesco stuff please? Read more

Aprilia

The colour of the coolant is due to the dye used. For example Texaco OAT coolant is a golden syrup colour. Some non-OAT coolant is coloured red (e.g. Toyota).

OAT should only be used on vehicles that are approved for its use.

The simple rule is buy the OE spec coolant for your car, from the dealer. I don't often advocate automatically going to the dealer for parts, but in the case of coolant its the best and safest advice.

Just watched this programme. They were all clapping the fat bloke because he negotiated a 'great' deal on a used £20'000 Mercedes.........he got 12 months tax thrown in, but no reduction in price!

Wish I'd got him in when I bought my new car. With negotiating skills like that, it makes the £7000 I got off look like amateur night :D Read more
