Travelling off on the m.m family hols late today.
If this predicted severe weather did arrive is there any part of the A1 between Stamford and Durham that actually floods in such downpours?
Thanks,

Today's DT reports that 1 in 15 motorists do not pay road tax and that this includes 37% of all motorcyclists. I make no comment other than that if this is the best the government can do with cameras all over the country and a vast computer in Swansea, it doesn't look good for computer/camera based road charging or ID cards!

Yes Fullchat but if the vehicle is a 'clone' there is no way for the authorities no know this as it goes past an ANPR camera and no registered keeper or owner address except of the poor bod whose car has been cloned. Get the untaxed uninsured unlicencensed brigade off the road with a zero tolerance policy of crushing offenders cars, except (wait for it!) DVLA records are such a mess that even they don't really know what is taxed and insured, what driver has what vehicle types on their licence etc etc so too many legal cars would be crushed in error.
M4 and M5 could be nasty today along with large parts of Wales.
Take it easy and set your numpty alert to max

I have got a strange problem in my 2006 Suzuki Ignis.
I am going in 4th gear, slowing down, shifting to 2nd.
Release clutch, a "ghat" sound - gear stick jumps to NEUTRAL!
Especially acute when I'm going uphill/downhill. Sometimes happening in level ground as well.
I have checked several times, unless the car becomes too slow in 2nd gear, it always pops to neutral by itself as soon as I release the clutch.
So far, this problem happens only when downshifting to 2nd gear!
Called dealer today and gave me appointment after 10 days [car is still under warranty] - says they are fully booked otherwise.
I'm furious - bought the car just 10 days back from Suzuki delaer. Already started trouble. Previous owner was an old lady - so it is unlikely to be driven hard.

Well TBH that's probably the best outcome you could hope for -- if there has been abuse, this will be fixed by a brand new box.
As an aside, I have noticed that a lot of people who complain of notchy or difficult gearboxes have a tendency to dip the clutch and take the car out of gear simultaneously, rather than leaving a gap between one and t'other, meaning that the linkage/selector/synchro is under unnecessary stress. Leave that small gap, all of a sudden the box is as sweet as a nut. Not suggesting you are guilty, but it's a common driving fault.
followed an Astra 2 nights back that had those new brake lights that flash when you stand on the middle pedal hard........are all cars getting them i.e. new legislation or is it a newish gimmick filtering in?
as an aside, i still can't get on with Vauxhall indicators.... they're infuriating Read more
"brake lights flash for the duration of ABS control"
Perhaps so much current is required by the ABS that there isn't any left for the lights...
I'm after a left hand drive auto small medium sized, preferably jap for reliability up to about £3k
Any ideas how I can actually search for suitable cars for sale?

missed off the price 2.5K from a trader who will surely give you a few hundred off if you don't sound too keen.
In technical a thread with a lady with a x reg astra has been told its a banger and people that sell such very old cars are technically selling barrow boy bomb site cars.
Comments please. Read more
Well I have an X-reg Primera and I certainly don't consider it a "banger"!!! The engine is silent, there's no rust, it starts first turn of the key and it's more or less immaculate. How can it be a banger? An X-plate Astra will be exactly the same.
Hell, I don't consider the R-plate Daewoo we have as a banger either. Apart from the engine bit all the Nissan comments apply to the Nubira as well, it just happens to be getting on a bit (and the engine is just your typical GM-Vauxhall lack of refinement of the time, nothing more).
I have a 2002 Proton Wira, which I bought second-hand in Jan 2006. When I reported the constant showing of the engine light, I was told that this model (1500 hatchback) was the subject of a recall for an engine management fault, which corrected for me at the main dealer. Subsequently, the EM light has come on again and stays on all the time that the ignition is on. No obvious problems with performance, indeed it passed its MOT last month.
Other intermittent faults - and I wonder if these are connected to the above - are malfunctioning of the instrumentation, e.g, rev counter, temp gauge and fuel gauge all giving false readings. No problems with the speedo - yet!
Questions:
1 Should I be able to get a main dealer to look at the engine management system again under the terms of the recall?
2 Is this likely to solve my other problems?
3 Is there anything I can do to sort any of this out myself?
Dave.

Thanks for the tip. I have written to them but had no reply yet.

Had to put two grandchildren in daughter's car in a supermarket car park the other day. Didn't want to, but got stuck with it, not best pleased.
Thought I'd never find the car among the thousands, but it was easy to spot. On a yellow line by the entrance to the supermarket with flashers going, looking to put it politely like something rescued from a breaker's yard.
I opened it with the spare key and put the nippers in, leaving the flashers going. I locked them in and got into my car.
Then I noticed that the five-year-old one had opened the nearside rear window and was three quarters out of it, apparently standing on the armrest, waving and jeering to the passing throng. I got out and sternly ordered her back inside. She obeyed with gratifying promptness, but I bet she was back out there before I was clear of the car park.
Don't think even my daughter would let them do it on the move though. Read more
he does it on purpose because he enjoys the challenge and the banter...I can see where he's coming from
I just changed the coolant temperature gauge on my car and it made the temp. needle work again. Yay me.
I'd already replaced the thermostat but that didn't fix the problem and, thanks to Haynes and some help from this forum, I managed to successfully flush the rad/engine block, replace the coolant sensor and then refill the coolant with some G12!
I've never really taken an interest in cars until I bought one and now I think I've got the bug! I can't wait for next week when I'll be doing some more work on it like replacing air/oil/fuel filters and replacing the oil. Oh, and replacing the sparks.
I'm fairly confident of being able to do those jobs myself (and maybe a bit of help from Dad) but the timing belt has never been changed and I think that'll have to be left to the experts. Read more
how do I know which W I have? Type 1 2 or 3? :(

Thanks GM... sadly I think we may be towing the weather with us all the way to Fife!
