was passing a garage where i saw a volvo 960 saloon. It is a 1995 2.5litre version. I am tempted to buy it. does anyone have any experience with this model? Had a look at the car-by-car breakdown already.
the bad news is that i have a 1996 mondeo 1.8TD with 125k on the clock. The day before i took it for mot and it passed. Had promised myself that if it fails mot then i will change the car. That was 3 years ago :-( Don't know whether to stick with something that has been dependable or just go ahead and change the car. The thing is it is probably worth just peanuts. Read more
But I don't so I do. :-)
I'd take full advantage of my circumstances and buy something with a big V8 in
it. :-)
cheers

bought the mondeo when i was working. I was commuting 600 miles a week so diesel was a must. Fortunately managed to get hold of a low mileage mondeo. Circumstances changed 3 years ago when missus passed away forcing me to give up work to look after my very young children.
Driving down M1 Southbound near Derby this pm, middle lane, outside lane fairly solid when I heard a siren. Checked mirrors, and couldn't see anything for a moment, then saw nice light Blue BMW bike which caused others in the fast lane some consternation; a moment later he was followed by a full dress 4x4 (looked Korean? not sure what it was, which is not like me...) again, it was STAGGERING the number of people who didn't realise he was on their rear bumper even though blues and twos(with all the variations sirens have these days) were running: one or two people's immediate reaction when they DID see him was to hit the brakes!
Talk about switch on mental cruise control disengage brain.....

t may be subjective, but for some time now it seems that my 2001 Fabia 1.9tdi has not got the performance which it had even a year or so ago.
The car has covered 112,000 kilometres ( about 70,000 miles). It seems to struggle somewhat up hills and often has a job to keep up with some fairly ordinary diesel competition.
There are no obvious signs of mechanical/electrical/computer/turbo mis-function
and the car has been maintained meticulously by a VW/Skoda main dealer.
It has been suggested that the mass airflow sensor may be at fault. Any comments on that and if that is the problem, what does a new one cost [and if anyone knows] - what's VW's official labour hours to to the job?

Update - yes, it WAS the MAF sensor!
I bought a generic copy via eBay (vendor:- stores.ebay.co.uk/Best-of-British-Rover-Spares ).
it cost £25 + £4.50 postage to a UK address at a box at Gatwick Airport+ 4 euros this end for forwarding to our local business centre from the Gatwick Airport box. (NEVER trust the Spanish post for mail incoming to Spain!)
It cam complete with the housing; I fitted it myself (a simple R & R job) and the car has been transformed!
It even seems quicker than when it was new - purely subjective I guess, but it just shows how one can become used to a gradual deterioration in function.
Today (cough, cough) I saw an indicated 180 kph, all seats occupied, up a gentlish incline on our local toll motorway!
Bliss, but I now need to watch out for Guardia Civil Trafico!

Is it illegal to tow a car by rope or do you have to use a rigid bar ?
Moved over from Tech and duplicated post deleted from Discussion also deleted MB's reply to the answer provided by accident, but hey these things happen ! (pointless question anyway asking what DVD has to do with towing ? DVD if the daddy of legal questions ! ) - PU Mod Read more
I agree that it's a little sneaky - although to call it fraud is a little harsh.
You are paying the breakdown company for a service that they are willing to provide. Many people join these organisations but never / rarely use them over an entire lifetime so it will more than balance out in the company's favour.
With regard to asking someone to do it, I don't see the problem as it's obviously up to the individual as to whether or not they use their own policy - you're not defrauding anybody. I have used my policy whilst in friends / colleagues cars because it's an insurance against a car I'm travelling in breaking down. I have paid the premium to the company to provide the service - it's up to me whether or not I call them and ask for their assistance.
Though Renault have admitted that clio's need their bonnet catch checked free of charge at their dealers, has anyone had difficulty claiming back excess insurance monies after the bonnet catch has failed and blown up against the windscreen (not a nice experience)?

My sister in law's 2001 E class Mercedes needs a new wheel bearing and she has been quoted £260. Surely this is unreasonable? Any views?
Also, I've done wheel bearings on several old BMC and Ford cars in the old days. Are modern ones such as this any different ? Could I do it myself?
Any opinion greatfully received.
Thanks. Richard Read more
there might be a hours wheel alignment on that? not sure if you disturb it on a merc or not
Hi
Is there anyone out there that knows of a diagnostic reader for the 2.5 diesel S80 Volvo yr 2000?
Someone must make one!

Yes it was the accelerator pedal, it's a fly by wire on this model. It was changed and all seems OK

Hi - I have a VW Corrado in flash red, now thirteen years old, and no matter how much I polish it, within a couple of weeks the top panels are a completely different colour from the rest of the car.
I am now considering buying a car cover. If any backroomers have any good or bad experiences with these or any recommendations please let me know.
I've ruled out a nylon one for obvious reasons and the car is parked on my driveway so there should not be any legal problems.

I have tried a car cover on a freshly polished and waxed car, the car sweated condensation under the cover, no thanks.

best check those glow plugs are working by removing them and "HEAT" them for 4 sec's till they GLOW, also make sure your timer is working correctly?? good luck.
